Chapter 42

1030 Words
CHEVEYO There was no class so I was in the house, sharpening my sword because it had been a week since I last cleaned it. I was just busy accomplishing the school activities, but I was trying to cope. Despite the inconveniences, I was still required to attend training since I was one of the leaders responsible for making Nokunis great at fighting. So far I was satisfied with their performance, but I could not be fulfilled knowing that the enemies were real tough opponents. While I was edging the sword, Brielle sneaked inside my mind. I was with her the last night, and every second with her truly marked in me. I could not forget even the smallest detail I had seen in her especially when she talked, that up until now I was bothered. Out of nowhere, Verena's mother appeared outside my house and called for my name. "Sorry for bothering, Cheveyo," she said when I came to her and asked her what was the matter. "Verena is just so stubborn. She wants to see you." "Where is she, Missus?" I asked. "She's in the house, resting. She's been insisting on me to call you since she came home." Missus Laure heaved a sigh. "I just can't do anything with her stubbornness." "It is alright, Missus. I will just go and visit her, but first, let me take a shower." "Sure. Well, I'll go now and just wait for you in the house so I could still have time to prepare food for you." Missis Laure thanked me before leaving. When I arrived at Verena's house, I went to her room right away. I did not even knock on the door yet when she opened it for me. I saw her all messed up in a white dress as if she had been sick for how many days. "What happened to you?" I asked her. "This is my look when I'm in the house, so don't be bothered," Verena said. "Why don't you come inside?" I did come inside and took a seat to share the table with her. I observed her wounds while she was preparing the food that her mom cooked for us. I could say she suffered from those little scratches, but gladly, she did not undergo a terrible experience in Baspirituan. "I thought you'll not come," Verena said as she poured water into the transparent glass. "Your mom went to my house and asked me to visit you. She's not wrong when she said you're really stubborn. I told you that you still have to take a good rest before you speak to me." "But I can't wait for more to speak. I really want to share things with you." "Okay, as it seems that I don't have anything to do anymore now, you can go ahead." Verena gave me a sweet smile before she started speaking again. While telling to me her journey in Baspirituan, her hands could not stop shaking— maybe because she was still scared of what she had discovered or maybe just because of the cold wind that was continuously touching her skin. "It was the scariest place I've ever been," she said, letting out a heavy breath. Baspirituan was indeed the most fearful and dangerous place. I had never been there but according to the deed of the Baspiritus that I had encountered, I could say that place was powerful. It was powerful in the way that each member was really doing something great that was based on darkness-- that was the only thing they could do to succeed because they would never leave a peculiar mark by just showing kindness. However, according to the story of Verena, Barpirituan mostly consists of shades of gray and black. She said that even the lights inside the homes and the palace seemed to not be light because it was giving a dark hue. She even told that the skies and clouds were woollen greys and that the trees could not even sway because they were lifeless to not have any leaves; everything was just dead. "What did you hear from them?" I asked. "Actually, nothing," Verena answered. "I just based everything according to their actions. It's really hard spying there because they are watchful," Verena said. "All they did was to observe their surroundings. They don't usually socialize with their fellow Baspiritu. I can see the sadness on their faces. They are not really happy with what they are doing because they are just victims. I can't think I'd be able to fight with them and worst, kill them. In the first place, some of them are one of us before. They are also Nokunis who just became victims." It was right that some of the Baspiritus were once Nokunis, but nothing would turn them back from their real identity anymore. All the souls that had been won would remain Baspiritus forever, until the day of their deaths. And that also would not change the fact anymore that the former Nokunis were now our enemies. "For sure that's their strategy. They know that anytime someone would spy on them, so they are just being quiet. They are protecting every word that would come to their mouth, so don't be deceived also by their actions," I told Verena. "But, how about the rulers there?" "That's the problem, they are not in Baspirituan because they are busy winning souls in the human world. They are still doing it, Cheveyo." The rulers of the Baspiritus had been doing this ever since they created the group-- winning human souls because they believed that the human was the most powerful creature even though they did not have the supernatural strength. However, it was not as easy for them to win the souls of the humans because there was something in the humans that had been protecting them from the harm of other creatures, and no one knew about that certain thing. After the moment of silence between the two of us, Verena looked at me straight in the eyes, "I don't know how will you believe this, but Brielle..." she said, " she's in danger."
