When Paix returned to work the next day, to his surprise the background report was actually on his desk. Not a lot there, but what was there made him sit down.
Inquiries had been made about Mrs. Bryce from outside the dome. One was from a Constable Highcard of the Central Dickens Police Department as to her whereabouts. The other was from a legal firm representing Mr. Deuce Kiga, a bill collector of Dickens who was trying to have her and her children extradited for non-payment and flight.
Both inquiries were denied.
Paix wasn't sure why anyone would even bother. Bridges ‒ or more to the point, the Clubb crime syndicate, which controlled the means to communicate with the other domes ‒ never extradited anyone, not even murderers. Certainly not a widow woman who owed some bill collector
