Chapt3r Thr33 DESPITE MY BEST efforts, sleep eluded me. Not surprising, seeing how my mom’s birthday dinner would be my introduction to Trevor’s boyfriend. I squirmed and twisted and turned for about an hour after he left for work, then gave up. I took a long, scalding shower, then went to walk around town. Getting reacquainted with the places that meant the most to me usually calmed me down, bringing some sort of peace, fickle as it might have been. No such luck today. There was a gaping void in the pit of my stomach and I had the sinking feeling I wouldn’t come back home again. I hadn’t lied to myself, I was happy for Trevor, but I doubted I could take more than one dose of him being all lovey-dovey with someone else. I could be just as thrilled for him from afar.
