Chapter 10Gerulf and Cailean had forgotten to buy school supplies for the kids when they’d picked up what they’d needed to build Niko’s room. So Tuesday morning, with the kids in tow, they visited the general store to get them. Niko and Dacia were both carrying bags with their supplies as the family left the store and started toward home. When they passed the still closed bar, Gerulf paused to look at it. “Considering my suggestion?” Cailean asked. “I am. As I said, I like what I do and I’m good at it, but I’m not irreplaceable. It would be nice not to be gone more than I’m here. I’d be able to watch them grow up instead of seeing the changes in fits and spurts.” He nodded toward the kids who were half a block ahead of them. “Then there’s you.” He put an arm around Cailean’s waist. “Yo
