Chapter 6

I was in a daydream at the check out desk, thinking of how much fun I had last night. I felt like I was given the attention I deserved and I didn’t have to pay for my drink once. Leon stayed by my side the entire night and was a respectful gentleman. He even dropped me home and then took me to work just in case I was still over the legal limit to drive. We exchanged numbers before he left, just in case I needed a lift home, but I said I would probably get a taxi. I closed up the shop and headed towards the exit.  “Maria!” Austin shouted from against the wall. I turned to him and he had a sheepish look on his face. “What are you doing here Austin?”  “Come on baby, you’re not still mad at me are you?” He said stepping closer to me.  “You were an arse last night Austin” I said pushing his chest to keep my distance from.  “Don’t be like that Maria” he grunted.  “We were as bad as each other”. I stared at him with an irritated look on my face.  “f**k off Austin” I spat. He grabbed my arm and turned me back round to face him. “Maria wait, I really need to talk to you about something” he stated and I folded my arms.  “What?” I snapped and he looked down at the ground.  “I... it’s about last night” he began and I lowered my brows at him. “What about it?”. “Well, I was really angry and incredibly drunk” he excused and I froze for a moment, realising what he was about to say to me. “Please tell me this doesn’t involve Crystal” I growled and he looked guilty. I gasped and released my arms. “It is isn’t it? Did you kiss her?!” I exclaimed and he glanced at me. “I... yes but it’s not just that I..”  “Wait a minute, have you come here to tell me you’ve cheated on me... with Crystal!?” I yelled and the guilt on his expression increased into a look of fear.  “Just hear me out Maria” “Did you touch her?” I interrupted. “Just let me speak Maria!” He shouted and I took two more steps back. “You f****d her didn’t you?” I snarled. The fact that he didn’t answer me and his jaw tensed, indicated to me that it was true. I scoffed and started to walk away from him in the direction of the road.  “Maria wait!” He called after me and I could hear his steps quickening to catch up. The relief I felt when I saw Leon standing by his car waiting for me was overwhelming and I felt tears welling up in my eyes. “Maria!” He shouted and Leon turned his attention to Austin. I got closer to Leon’s car, Leon took one look at my expression and stood up in an aggressive stance. “Are you okay Maria?” He asked and I shook my head.  “Get in the car” I ordered and grabbed the handle. “Maria, will you just stop and talk to me!?”. I bit my lip and let go of the handle. I turned to him with anger filling my body. “You f*****g disgust me! How dare you! You think I’m going to give you the time of day after f*****g that slut? I don’t think so” I snarled stepping towards him in an aggressive manor. “Want me to hit him hermosa?” Leon asked and I shook my head. “Who the f**k are you?” Austin grumbled at Leon. I bit my lip once again, trying to contain my rage. “Oh right, you’re the little prick that caused all this s**t!” He yelled and I stepped towards him.  “No austin, you’re the one that’s caused this” I defended him and Leon paces towards Austin with his fists clenched, I held his arm gently. “He’s not worth it” I said without taking my eyes off him. “You know Maria, you ain’t been right since you met this scumbag. Ever since that night, you’ve not touched me once!” He shouted. I noticed Leonardo smile smugly. “I wouldn’t be surprised if you were f*****g him on the sly” he growled. I shook my head at him and beckoned Leon to the car. “Let’s go” I said. However, before we could open the door, Austin had to have the last word.  “You always were a f*****g w***e”. Shit... he had to push it didn’t he? I turned to him and slapped him on the cheek. “f**k off”I spat. “f*****g slut!” He yelled in rage and before I could even react, Leon’s fist connected with his face. He was throwing punches at him in a fit of anger.  “Leon, stop! That’s enough!” I yelled and he stepped away from him.  “I’m sorry hermosa, he deserved it” he said in a calm and chilling tone.  We got into the car and left Austin rubbing his face like the little p***y he was.  “Are you alright?” Leon asked as he sped down the road. “Not really, I just found out my boyfriend of two years has f****d a girl I can’t stand” I explained. He sighed and said “Bastardo infiel, you deserve better than him” he consoled me.  “Just take me home Leon, I just want to be on my own” I grumbled, looking down at my legs. I heard him sigh deeply.  “I would like to show you something first, if you will let me” he replied. “Oh, I don’t know Leon, I would like to just go home”  “It will only take 10 minutes, if you still want to go home after then I’ll take you”. I thought about it for a moment and blushed at his persistence.  “Fine, 10 minutes” I insisted.  A few minutes later, I could smell the salty air and opened my eyes wide at him.  “Are... are we...” I was speechless at his romantic gesture.  “At the beach? Si” he replied with a grin across his face. I smiled and looked out the window to watch the trees part and reveal the ocean. The sun was setting slowly and it looked amazing. We parked up and got out of the car to head down to the sand at the bottom of the steps. “Why have you brought me here?” I asked him as we headed over to the rocks. He sat down on the rock opposite to the one I was sitting on. He took my hands gently and glanced up at me.  “Because hermosa, this is the one place I go to that always makes me feel better”. His sweet accent filled my heart with warmth and I met his eyes.  “It’s beautiful” I replied. He smiled at my compliment and let go of my hands, frowning as he does it.  “What is it?” I asked him. “I shouldn’t be doing this, I’m no good for you”. His words took my by surprise.
