Chapter 7 Half the pack took off in pursuit as if they’d merely been waiting for me to make my move, and I fully expected my trajectory to be intersected in short order. I’d fight like the cornered animal I was, but in the end I’d have to surrender. After all, there were dozens of them and only one of me. But I’d misread the pack’s intentions. Because the other wolves merely fanned out across the surrounding landscape, accepting my direction during our wild chase through autumnal woods. I was their leader, their alpha, their commander.
