Chapter Eleven Jack was aware of a curious swaying sensation. It was not unpleasant, but he wondered what it was and where he was before the memory of the battle and retreat returned to him. He opened his eyes to see nothing but darkness, combined with a most curious yet strangely familiar smell. I know that stench. The swaying continued, dragging Jack from side to side, yet simultaneously up and down, as if he were within a tiny, dark, and stuffy boat. “Halloa!” Jack tried to shout, but his throat was too dry to allow any sound.
