When I returned to the packhouse, Missy was preoccupied, so I locked myself in my office. I still had some adrenaline pumping through me and needed to calm down. I wasn’t entirely surprised that someone had stepped up to challenge my authority, but I wasn’t happy about it. I knew it could invite more problems in the future, and my only hope was that my punishment would be enough to stem any more dissent for a while.
It was painfully clear that I needed to work on getting all the warriors on my side. They needed to trust me. Exemplifying and embarrassing them got my point across but also drew a line between us. The ones that hadn’t been on patrol had their ego hurt less, but overall, I struck a hard blow to them and positioned myself against them.
