SLOAN I managed to sleep uncomfortably for most of the night. It sounded like something was going on in the hall, but I ignored it. I knew I wasn’t going to work the following day, so I didn’t bother forcing myself through the breakfast charade. While they were less painful than meals back home, I still didn’t enjoy the forced interaction. I couldn’t deny the growl in my stomach mid-morning, though. Eating regular meals had resensitized my body to the lack of food. I had gotten good at ignoring my hunger after about two months on my own, but now it was screaming at me. Hoping that everyone would be busy with their various employments, I headed out of my room and down to the kitchen.
