When news is delivered in a stairwell… LEMON Axel slid into his seat and looked at me with guilty eyes. I turned away from him, trying to dry my face on my damp sleeves. It was a useless attempt. “Baby, are you okay?” Axel whispered hoarsely, leaning into me. “Yea, I just need a second,” I told him. I couldn’t have this conversation with him while we were on this plane surrounded by people. I had barely gotten myself somewhat under control and had already garnered enough looks during Axel’s absence. Axel put his hand on my leg, rubbing it gently. “Please don’t cry, Lemon Pie,” he said. I got the feeling he knew that I knew. I took a steadying breath. All I had to do was get through this plane ride. I could change our tickets and put us on separate flights home. I’d stay overnight
