SADIE I pulled the blanket tighter around me as Gray shuffled over. “Can I sit?” he asked in a soft voice. I just nodded then he folded himself onto the floor next to me. “I’m sorry-” we both started at the same time. I shook my head. “Go ahead.” “I shouldn’t have been listening at the door. River asked me to stay in my room until you were back, but I got antsy,” he said. I just shrugged; for once, words didn’t want to come out of me. Gray sighed and looked into the fireplace. Both of us sat there quietly for a while. “I shouldn’t have said it that way earlier,” Gray finally broke the silence. “I didn’t mean it how it came out.” He looked at me with a sad expression on his face. “Okay,” I replied. “Then what did you mean?” He sighed heavily. “Sadie, I really like you. It’s scary ho
