5 I talked Lisa into dropping me off at a rental car place after the insurance office. She was expecting some deliveries for clients, and I thought it would do her good to keep busy. Plus, I argued, it’d be nice for both of us to take care of our business stuff now so we didn’t have to worry about it later. “That’s true,” Lisa said. “Things could get tricky over the next couple of days. Mariah is still headed this way, so we’re under a hurricane watch now.” I’d forgotten about the weather, but any excuse to get away from Lisa for a while was a good one. She gave me the spare house key she kept in her car, just in case I beat her home. She also briefed me on the alarm system, the one they’d had for years but she’d rarely used until today.
