*ANDREW POV*
Andrew paced about his room waiting for a phone call from Caroline. She promised him she would convince her parents and they would sort things out. She promised him a feedback before the end of that day, but she gave him nothing. He frowned and tossed his phone.
"I knew it was pointless. She is too soft! What was I thinking anyway?" He said to himself, squeezing his face. He sat on his bed and remembered moments with her that day. When she touched her shoulders, he noticed how nice she was. The lady was sentimental and understanding. A total opposite of him of course! He had no patience for such! How can a human be that nice anyway? She didn’t even know him too well. In his eyes, she felt like a fragile vessel. A fragile vessel he was afraid he might break, if she pushed too hard. Andrew felt stupid. Why am I pitiful here? All I want is that company! I do not care about her!
Her sister must have convinced her for sure, which is why she hadn’t called. Swallowing his pride, he picked his phone up to call her. He rarely calls girls unless he wants a hookup. But Caroline was different. She was his business.
"Hello…." He heard her voice say from the other end. He took in a deep breath and exhaled.
"How are you?" He asked an uncommon question from his end.
"My mum wants us to prove our love in a month. She isn't listening to me…."
" A Month?! " He exclaimed. He recalled the promise he made to her mum. Of course! The one month thing was his idea! How desperate he was then! He calmed himself down and thought hard of what else to do. He couldn't wait for a month. She was too soft and he couldn’t put up with such a calm lady for a month.
"Hello?" Her voice sounded at the other end. The silence must have overwhelmed her. "It's okay if you want me to keep trying."
"Forget it. I will call you soon. Good night." He hung up.
One month?!
His thoughts were crowded. He couldn't point out what to do at that moment. Feeling frustrated, he stepped out of his room, down the stairs, to get a drink.
"Millie!" He called his personal servant, who answered from the kitchen.
"Yes boss?" She answered.
"Tell Ralph to warm the car. I have to see someone. I am stressed." He informed her.
She nodded and went to meet his driver, Ralph.
The bar was his favorite spot when he needed to relax. The drinks worked, but temporarily. He took some shots of hot rum, and called up one of his females. Olivia was a pretty accountant who worked at a new bank close by. She was unfortunately upset they hadn't spoken in months. But she agreed to allow him a visit to her place.
He never let his ladies in his home. He visits them instead.
When he'd gotten to her home, he drew her to him and kissed her passionately, pressing her against him. She was surprised at how quick he was, but accepted anyway. They ran their lips on each other's naked bodies for sometime, before going to the main act. Caroline's thoughts hadn't left his mind, nor could he forget her sensitive nature. He couldn’t tell why it troubled him. Why was he scared of hurting her? He was used to doing that to everyone.
"What are you thinking about?" Olivia asked, directing his eyes to hers as he forgot to kiss her, after the s*x.
"Forget it. I am just troubled." He informed her, kissing her on the lips.
"Is something wrong? Do you want to share?" She asked.
"You can’t understand. No one will." He informed her, cuddling her.
The next day, he visited his parent's home, hoping they would work out a plan B for him. When he informed them of Caroline, and poured as much sentiment as he could, they were shocked.
"Get to know her better," Mrs Pak suggested.
"I know her well enough." He insisted.
"Marriage is not a fun site where you just dabble into. You have to know her…." She said,
"I swear I know what I am doing. I have the entire plan drafted out."
"An entire plan for a marriage? " Mr Pak asked in shock.
"Yes. I know how I will take care of her, help her dad, and grow the company. I know what I have laid out in my head." He seemed confident in what he knew.
"She is human, son." His mum explained. "Sometimes, it's not all about logic. You need to understand her emotions as well…."
"I do…."
"You don't. You're terrible at emotions. Don't tell me you've forgotten Jenna's incident, when you were in 7th grade." His mum reminded him of the past.
His heart melted.
"Mum stop…."
"You cheated on her and she dumped you right in front of the entire school. I see how convenient that was for you…." His mum hissed.
"I really loved her. Her friend was all over me…." He defended himself.
"Then you should have pushed her off! How can you take care of a wife when you can't even settle with one girl? " She asked.
"Could we all relax? " His dad asked, sensing the tension.
"I will change mum, I give my word. Let me have this girl. I just need… I mean I have plans for her…."
"Do you love her? " His mum asked.
He rolled his eyes avoiding her gaze.
"You can't marry her if you do not love her."
"I love her. I do and I want to marry her." He lied, feeling his plan go down the drain.
"Do you both love each other for real? " His dad was in doubt.
"Yes. But her parents insist we know each other for a month ...."
"That's a smart decision. Go for it! " His dad agreed.
"I already know her well enough! "
"You can't know people well enough, Andrew. People are of different layers. You have to understand them in-depth."
Andrew didn’t expect the conversation to end in a deadlock. This caused an unsettling feeling of unfulfillment. He drove back to his home and headed to his gym.
For a week, he heard nothing from Caroline nor did he find the need to call her. During one of his moments at a casino, his phone rang and he saw her name flash on his phone screen.
"A new girl?" One of his friends asked.
"Mind your business." He responded harshly and picked the call.
"Hey…." He began the conversation.
"I am sorry. I was unable to convince my mum about…."
"Leave it. You tried your best." He said, fidgeting with his glass of drink. "Why don't you come to my house this weekend? We could talk about it."
His friends had their brows arched.
'No talking' one of them whispered.
"I still don't feel comfortable coming to your side…."
"We want to build trust, right?" He asked. "Let's start with you trusting me enough to welcome you into my home."
"Alright. Friday should be great." She suggested.
"Will you love anything? " He asked.
"Whatever you have is fine."
Andrew scoffed. He rarely saw a girl so easy about and less greedy for wealth. Caroline was one. He hung up at the end of the call and took the last of his drink.
"Will you really talk to her?" His earlier friend asked.
"You know me." He chuckled. "I will do what I have to do. Let us hope I lose interest in her and never see her again. She is useless to me."
"Block her number and walk away instead." Another suggested to him.
He shook his head.
"She is already in my trap. It would be stupid to let her go," he confessed.
"Why?"
"I don't know, okay. I don't understand myself. I just want her gone, that's all. Too bad I can't let her go that easily either. I need to feel fulfilled before I let her go. Perhaps s*x could quench that. Perhaps that's just what I want, to have s*x with her." He gazed up at his friends with a now convinced look at his plan.
