I had to rush back to the pack land when Dos told me that Vernon and his wife died which was the reason why Dos has to go back home that morning and forgot about his mate. I was about to tell Jean but Dos said that they already talked.
I sent a message to Duane when I was about to go but he insist to wait for him because he also wanted to go back with me so we went to the pack land together.
"I used to be close friends with Vernon when we were young." Duane said. He was the one driving.
"Really? He seems cold and serious so I never had a long conversation with him before." I said.
"Yes, but he's actually caring and funny when you got to know him. I never thought he would end up dying so early."
"Yeah. He was about to take the alpha title, right?"
"Was what I heard." Duane answered.
Though, it was only a rumour but Dos confirmed it to me before that alpha Byron would be handing over the title at an early age to his eldest son.
I sighed. Death even to us who were superior to humans weren't inevitable every time just like humans. It was kind of scary to die suddenly without you not telling your lobe ones how much they love them, that you weren't still prepared to do because you still have so many things to do in life.
"What are you thinking?" Duane asked and I looked at him.
"I know you knew." Of course, he could read my mind.
"Don't think of dying early on me also."
"Then you better look at the road while driving." I said and Duane turned his eyes back to the deserted road.
When we arrived, I immediately looked for Dos while Duane looked for his father in the pack house. I went inside the hospital and saw Dos with his nephew who was the only survivor of the crash. Dos was feeding Cayden with porridge.
"Curtis, you came." Dos was surprised to see me.
"Of course. You should have told me earlier." I said as I walked inside the room and looked at Cayden.
Cayden's eyes were lifeless, they were dark as he slowly chewed on his food. I sighed because I couldn't bring to comfort the pup. It wasn't alright for him to lose both his parents. He must be traumatized by that incident.
"I'm sorry. I was in a rush." Dos said.
"I understand." I said and sat on the edge of the bed.
I really want to hug the pup but wouldn't it make the pup feel like he's lonely and I was afraid that he would start crying to I fought myself. I rarely have any interactions with Cayden but we know each other, of course.
Dos was in the middle of feeding Cayden when the door opened and alpha Darren came in with a plastic box container in his hand.
"Curtis, you also skipped class?" Alpha Darren asked.
"Yes, alpha. Of course, I would." I stood up and bowed slightly to recognize the alpha's presence.
"Thanks for being here." Alpha Darren sat beside me and he caressed Cayden's hair.
"I brought fruits." Alpha Darren opened the container and sliced fruits were inside. "Nick, let me continue feeding Cayden and go talk to Curtis outside."
Dos handed the porridge to alpha Darren and we both went out of the room.
"Are you with Duane?" Dos asked.
"Yeah. How did you know?"
Dos rolled his eyes at me. "You reek of his scent."
I scrunched my nose. "Really?"
Dos nodded.
"How are you?" I asked.
Dos sighed. "I don't know. I still couldn't believe that Vernon's gone."
I placed my arm around the back of his shoulder and pulled him closer like a always do. "We don't predict death, I guess it happened for a reason."
"Yeah. Thanks but I feel weird you telling me these kinds of things." Dos smiled.
I chuckled lowly. "Yeah. I also feel weird letting go of those words."
Dos smacked my arm. "I'll be fine. Thanks."

I went home and mom was surprised to see me there. She was in the kitchen arranging the cups.
"Why didn't dad tell me about what happened?" I said as I grabbed a bottle of water and sat on a chair.
"I guess he was about to." Mom said. "What do you want for lunch?"
"Hmm, anything that you cooks. I'm tired of school foods."
"That's why I told you to learn how to cook your meal. What will your mate say if you don't know how to cook a single meal?" Mom nagged and I pouted then chugged the water in one go.
They didn't know that I already found my mate and that my mate really knows how to cook everything.
"I already meet my mate." I said and mom was frozen from what she was doing then turned to me while narrowing her eyes.
"No wonder you smelled different. I thought I was only thinking too much but you really did mated with your mate."
"Mom, it can't be helped." I said.
"Of course, you can't." She finished arranging the cups and glasses then turned to the groceries that was lying on the counter. "So, who's your mate? Is it from our pack land also?"
"Yes."
She turned to me and raised a brow. "Who?"
"Duane." I said and she oohh-ed.
"Cliff's son? He's quite handsome."
"Not as handsome as me." I said and she chuckled.
"Of course, of course. You, after all, took my image."
I laughed. "Yes, yes, gorgeous."
"Does he know how to do things?" Mom asked.
I frowned. "What things?"
She couldn't be talking about the matters in the bed right?
"Cooking and house chores sort of things that you couldn't do. What's in your head boy?"
I laughed. "s*x?" I laughed again.
Mom picked a box of milk and motioned to throw it towards me and I crossed my arms to guard my face but I knew she wouldn't throw it.
"Don't worry. All the things that your handsome son doesn't know, Duane knows how to do it. He's like superman so don't worry about me."
"You still have to learn and not let your mate do everything."
"Of course, I am learning but he doesn't want me to do things." I said and someone knocked on the door.
"Speaking of the devil." I said and stood up to open it.
