Chapter Nineteen Lee took a measured breath: “I’ll just go have a look.” And she stood up and made her way to the kitchen and the steps that led down to the backdoor. She checked her watch on the way. It was after nine and the sun had been down for hours. Lawn service or not, there was no way anyone should be in her backyard at this time of night. Lee slid up to the door, checked the lock and the chain, then carefully moved the curtain aside. There was nothing but the sweep of darkness. Lee had installed high intensity security lamps, one in every corner of her yard. Each was wired to a network of motion detectors and if anything larger than an alley cat happened to move out back, the flood of white light would make her yard look like a Cyclone’s Friday-night football game; stadium light
