**Hayden**
I laid in bed a few extra minutes after my alarm went off. It was not even 5am and the base was already wide away. The sound of music blared from cars, people shuffled up and down the stairs. I rolled over to check my phone just as a text comes in.
“Good Morning Gorgeous. I hope you have a wonderful day at processing. How would you feel about getting dinner together after your PFT this afternoon?”
-Christopher Jones (the wolf from last night).
A smile lite up my face as I blushed into my pillow. I sat up in bed, crossing my legs under me, questioning whether I should text me back. Biting my bottom lip, I start to text him back.
“Good Morning. Thanks again for driving me to base last night. You are a lifesaver.”
I hit the send button getting out of bed to walking to the bathroom and start to get ready for my day. Turning on the shower, I stepped away letting it warm up. I walked back to my closet to pull out my uniform for the day as my phone vibrates on the bathroom sink. I walked back over to the sink a little hastier than I should have. I grabbed my phone and open the message.
“You never responded about dinner. 1930, I’ll pick you up.” I tapped the counter thinking about what to write back. You wanted to be normal. Going on a date with a wolf is not normal Hayden! But he was nice and sexy looking.
“7:30, I’ll be here.” A small giggle and half smile spilled on my face. I stepped into the shower, the warm water caressed my skin, hugging it in a warm embrace. A moan of pleasure escapes my lips, and the waters washes over my hair. Calmness swept over me, waking me up. Scrubbing my body clean, I dried off and got dressed. Wiping off the mirror I settled on a natural makeup look.
Placing my hair up in a bun, a loud bang rattles my door. “Jesus, its open!” I yell as I jumped in fright.
“Babes is that you?” A loud voice screamed yanking the door open.
“Sam?!?” I screamed after I recognized the voice from the doorway.
A 5’8 luscious black female threw the door open running into my barracks. Her hair was in perfect braids that came together and wrapped in a beautiful sock bun. Her smooth skin glowing as her smiling beamed for me.
I screamed with excitement as I saw my best friend for the first time in two weeks. Running over to her I jumped into her arms as we embraced in a loving hug.
Samantha Ammons became my best friend during boot camp. She was strong and passionate. She pushed me to be better, faster, and stronger. She helped me find my voice when I had none. She was there through the tears and the late-night fire watch duties. For the last year she was my everything.
We called it fate when we both got our orders and ended up at the same Advance Training base even though she was a Pharmacy tech, and I was a corpsman. Now fate worked her magic again and stationed us both her in South Carolina again.
“OMG you look amazing!” Sam smiled into my shoulder. “How did everything go back at home? Did you parents understand about joining?”
I peeled away from her as she fixed her baby hairs in my mirror. “Yeah, I think they did. It hurt leaving this time though, like I was no longer their little girl.”
“That’s a part of adulthood boo. You will always have your childhood but going home will never be the same. You now get have adventures and stories that no one else will ever get to have. Friendships will fade and people will move away, get jobs, and eventually have families. That’s growing up.”
I leaned against the wall watching and contemplating her words. For only being five years older than me she was wise beyond her years. Acting like the big sister that I always wanted. Getting lost in my thoughts I barely heard my alarm going off. Snapping out of it I shake my head and turn it off.
“You ready to go be official?” I said to her as she turned blowing me a kiss and linking my elbow with hers walking out the barracks and down towards processing.
The walk was only about 5 mins but as we got closer to the processing center the herd of new marines and sailors was insane. There had to be at least 300 new personal checking in. No wonder why it took a week to complete our indoctrination into the base
Standing in line, Sam started telling me her vacation with her family and how she went to the beach. Talking about the guy she hooked up with and all the drama that occurred back in Louisiana. My mind could not help but drift back to Christopher.
A hand flashed before my face as I drifted back out of my hazing into reality. “Allister? Hello, any one home?” I grabbed Sam’s hand pushing it away.
“Yes, I was listening the entire time.” I answered in an annoyed tone.
“Wanna give the nice lady your ID?” Sam spoke to me like I was a mental patient.
I looked down at the lady sitting at the white pop up table in front of me. She was an older lady with white hair, why was she up so early? I did not even notice she was there or how long I had been daydreaming.
“Yes mam, I’m sorry.” I mumbled as I handed her my ID, she gave me a small smile as she handed me my document packets and a pin while herding us through to the sitting area. As we sat in a swamp of new people, we began to fill out of forms commenting to each other about how many times we just filled out the same form for a different place.
“Does the Marine Corps not have a copy machine?” Sam snapped at her paperwork. A small giggle and an eye roll escaped me. Completing our intake documents and all our health history forms, I started looking over our schedules to see if we have any events together.

“So, we have today, Wednesday, and Friday today.” I leaned my head on her shoulder waiting for one of our names to be called.
“Wanna go to dinner tonight, that’s not a chow hall? “Sam flexed her arm and rubbed the back of my head softly.
“I didn’t tell you did it.” I sat up most eagerly.
“Tell me what?”
“I have a date tonight.”
“b***h” she said too loud and enthusiastically. Marines and sailors around us turned to look at us and I at once ducked as I blushed. Sam dismissed them with her hand, “Ain’t no on talking to you all, bye!” My face getting redder with every starring. “Who is he!”
I spent the next hour telling her about Christopher, the airport, and the texts this morning.
“What rank is he? What unit is he with?”
“I honestly didn’t ask. I do not really care what rank he is. He said he was infantry, but I am not sure what unit. He might have a cute friend for you!” I winked at her.
“Girl you know I’m not into dogs but hell if he’s cute you better hook me up!” We giggled as both our names were called into the processing line.
