Nothing felt right. Even in my semi-conscious state, I knew my world had turned upside down. Getting caught by my enemies was a vivid memory, but at least we were still alive. I wondered what happened to Kaya and Archie. I hadn’t felt the bond with my mate break, so I knew she was still alive. I just hoped that she managed to escape. I knew helping us would be a challenge. According to our law, if a wolf defeats an alpha, his pack and everything in it belong to the new wolf. Asher invaded the pack and defeated me, and by law, he was the new Alpha of Black Woods. I had failed to protect my pack from Asher’s empire of rogues. That he wouldn't mistreat the commoners was all I could hope for.
