"where have you been?" I said to my best friend Riley, she had been gone for weeks. The semester had just started when she left, I was so worried about her. we've been best friends for years pretty much since we were in diapers. she had never just up and left like that.

"I was dealing with some family business, you know how my family can be. always pushing me to find someone. always trying to make me choose between them and my own life's work. I would have contacted you but so much has been going on and i didn't have the time"

Riley always had something going on. I couldn't comfort her like I wanted because she wouldn't give me all the details. Riley would always say something about her family trying to make her marry someone but she wouldn't tell me why, it was almost like she was afraid someone might be listening. "we'll I missed you, my mom put us in the same classes and you have a lot of work to catch up on so we better hurry and get it. I'll help you with it since I've finished mine" I said hoping to change the conversation, I didn't know how to help her with her problems but I did know how to get her mind off them and with that we walked to class.

during class I introduced Riley to my new friend group, just like I thought would happen she instantly got close with them and we all made plans. once class was over we all headed to lunch, I sat beside Riley and Jared. I was eating my favorite meal popcorn chicken with corn and mashed potatoes.

"so what are you going to do about the dorms, you know your parents hate the thought of their little girl moving away" Riley said with a chuckle. I haven't thought about what I would say to them, I should have been moved out but they've been so insistant on me staying with them. it's very overwhelming but I don't wanna stay with my parents forever. "I'll probably just pack up my things and move them into the dorm without them knowing, or I'll promise to come home on weekends" I told her as I finished up eating, just as I got done eating eve ran over to us with a very frightened look on her face. "guys look at this news article, vampires exist!!" she said, we all stared at her for a moment and then looked at the article on her phone. and there it was, a photo of a person. clearly not alive with two holes on their neck, the article said the person had no blood left in their body and that some of their organs were taken. "what the f**k.. " I couldn't fathom what I had just read.. what I had just seen. "that can't be real" Riley said with her mouth full of food, Jared just had a blank stare. "we have to find out who did this before more people die" I looked at Eve when she said that. concerned about why she would want to do something so dangerous, however it did excite me. the fact that vampires may actually exist it just seems so.. exhilarating. and I need some excitement in my life.

"are you crazy?! we could be next if we go poking around looking for some fake vampire serial killer" Riley said, she wasn't wrong tho but it wouldn't hurt to try and find some clues right?.

after lunch we all went home to get our things, I still need to talk to my parents and let them know I'm gonna be living in the dorms I just need to figure out how to do that without causing an uproar.

I walked through the door and into the kitchen where mom was cooking, I could tell she was in a good mood because she had her favorite song on. my dad was sitting at the table watching the tv, I walked up to them and they both looked at me with a smile.

"mom, dad. we need to talk it's important"

"what is it sweetheart" my mom said as my dad stayed focused on the TV

"I..i want to live in the dorms, I know you like the fact that I live with you but I want to have the full collage experience I promise I'll visit on the weekends."

my dad finally looked away from the tv and my mom looked a bit upset I felt bad but I really want to see what it's like to live away from them. I want to feel independent.

"are you sure that's what you want" dad said while trying to hide the frown on his face.

"yes. I want to live in the dorms." I smiled, It hurt to see them upset but I had to be honest with them.

"if that's what you want.. then you can stay in the dorms. you are old enough to make your own decisions now"

I was so excited to live in the dorms that after they had agreed to let me go I went straight to my room and started packing, grabbing all my favorite things and making sure that I had everything, then I headed back to the campus and got my room number. I walked in and saw that Eve was my roommate I greeted her and sat down in one of the chairs.

"so how's your essay coming along?" I frowned as I realized that I hadn't even started it. professor lohan had given us an essay to do on wild life in our area, I had been so focused on everything with Riley just coming back and getting my parents to let me move into the dorms that I had completely forgotten to do it. I looked down playing with my fingers. "I.. haven't started it yet." Eve looked at me and smiled "I could help you" she said, eve is very pretty and smart she always gets good grades. if she helped me I was sure to get a better grade then I usually do. "really, you would do for me?" I had a huge smile on my face and couldn't understand why I was so excited for her to help me but I really did need the help so maybe I was just happy that I might be getting a good grade for once since I usually got under 50%. "of course I will, for a price.. " I looked at her my lips tighten as I wait for her to tell me what that price may be. "if you help me investigate the vampire murders that have been happening I'll help you with the essay. " I was afraid, but excited. it would be dangerous, extremely scary but it would be fun too and I would get help on my essay. I nodded my head and shook her hand. "we have a deal" I said, eve winked at me and I had a weird feeling that something was going to happen I just didn't know what...
