CHAPTER TWENTY-TWO I slip through the shadows of the awakening village, the first light of dawn casting long, thin fingers across the cobblestone paths. The mountain air is crisp and fills my lungs with a mixture of pine and spring's promise. It's early enough that most of the pack is still nestled in their beds, dreams undisturbed by the threat lurking beyond our borders.
