CHAPTER EIGHT Sam appeared in the same white flash of light. It took her a few seconds to grasp the reality of her surroundings. She’d seen it on television from a distance but this, well, it was worse. She felt like she was standing on another planet. The first thing she noticed was the smell. Burned flesh on a massive scale made her feel sick almost immediately. All around her was nothing but black, and ash covered the ground. If there ever had been a city here all she could see now was desolate wasteland as far as she could see. “It’ll be just a few seconds until I can latch on to their energies, I suggest not moving,” Opticon said to her.
