Augustus
“TWINS?!” I was bewildered. Renée was smiling from ear to ear, excitedly squeezing my hand.
“Yes! There are two pups in there. They are both healthy and seem to be doing fine.”
“Augustus!” Renée shook me from my shock and grinned up at me.
“We’re having twins …” I didn’t even know what to say.
“Would you like to know the gender of your pups?”
“Yes! Yes, yes, a thousand times YES!”
Renée was so happy, the doctor matched her excitement.
“Great! So, we’re going to draw blood to assure that you are in good health, mom. Then we will send a sample to be tested to determine the gender.”
She collected the blood samples as she and my mate made small talk. I just stared at Renée. My beautiful mate was carrying two pups. This was a dream come true.
“Alright! All done.” The nurse left to retrieve our ultrasound photos and take the blood samples to the appropriate storage area. I turned to Renée, who was wiping the gel off of her belly as she stared down with a smile.
“You are the most gorgeous woman I have ever seen.”
Renée glanced up at me and smiled.
“Aren’t you being quite the charmer?” She giggled.
I leaned forward, kissing my mate with a hungry passion. She moaned a little before pulling away, out of breath.
“Not here, lover man.” She winked and gave me a mischievous smile.
The nurse returned, handing us the photos of our little peanuts. I couldn’t help but grin. This was simply the most joy I had felt in my life.

Renée was laying on my chest, drawing imaginary circles over my tattoos.
“What are you thinking about, my handsome?”
“Leaving this place.”
“Mm. Of course.”
“We may have to go soon. I don’t know what Lukas’s motives are, but he asked me to train his army. I would’ve told you sooner, but I needed time to think.” Renée rested her chin on my chest, staring at me for a quiet moment.
“What do you think is best? Out there, we don’t know what we may face. With two pups on the way, we’d need more time to plan. There is no rush, honey. We have some time.”
"I thought you were ready to leave?" I raised a brow and looked down into her light brown eyes.
"I am. But we have to think about our future. I don't want to be a pregnant rogue. You know how our kind is. We got lucky running into Judeah. What if we leave here and can't find a new pack? Our poor twins will be rogueish pups. That's not ideal."
I chuckled, but I knew she was right. I was also uncomfortable with the direction this territory was headed. I decided I needed to get some fresh air. After Renée had fallen asleep, I quietly put on some casual clothing and crept out of our home. It was a still and silent night. I walked my usual route, pausing every few minutes just to take in my surroundings.
My mate, my pups, and I deserved to have a good life. As a provider, I was honored to do whatever I could possibly do to make sure my family was well-off. It was my full intention to give them the world on a silver platter. What man wouldn't want to take proper care of the ones he loved most?
Silver Mountain was magnificent. Even years after arriving, I still marveled at its beauty. I made it to the edge of the territory that was blocked off by a tall wall of rock. It was the only side like this. The others were entry and exit points that either wrapped around the mountain or led downward to the base.
Something beyond the wall of rock was pulling me. For some reason, I couldn't ignore it. Even my wolf seemed interested in whatever was on the other side. Curiosity led me into the thick brush at the right end. A small opening at the bottom caught my eye. I glanced around and listened for any sounds. It was still and silent.
I was too big to get through the opening.
“Allow me.”
My wolf was dying to get out. I undressed, placing my clothes neatly beside the opening of the rock wall. I shifted.
Caesar, my wolf, squeezed through. He barely made it, but he stood and shook his fur out.
“My Goddess …” I was peering at the lush land that seemed to span endlessly. It was dark, but the green grass was very noticeable. There were wildflowers and I heard water trickling from somewhere. I was amazed by the sight under the moonlight. I shifted back and stood staring out. Did Judeah know about this?
A slow smile began to form as I thought about what this could mean. What if we didn’t leave Silver Mountain? What if we just came here instead?
Caesar purred softly, agreeing with my thoughts. I had to show Renée. If I could get her down here to see this, she would fall in love.
