Carlos becomes very quiet at the door. He is standing there like a man suddenly dying on his feet. Teuns is not sitting still, though. Instead, after he had spoken, he moved quickly and silently.
“What? What are you saying?” Carlos finally asks.
“I am telling you, the jeeps are gone,” Teuns answers. “The Dulacs had removed them last night. They do not trust us anymore, Carlos, and they want to ensure we stay here. I am afraid you will no longer enjoy seeing me die in the desert. You will see how I die by the hands of the Dulacs, and I will see how you will die.”
“You have cheated me,” Carlos says as if this moment is more important than the fact that the jeeps had been taken, and more importantly, they have no way of escaping. “You are going to die, now and here…”
