Arni's POV
The documentary kinda worn me out. Riya's friend Vishal who is new into his journalism career is the root of this documentary. The one that focuses on social issues because damn, in India you have many!
It should actually Riya be the one helping him with it, but there were other plans for her and I didn't have a choice.
He asked me way too many questions and I was told I shouldn't dodge any of them. So I did answer what I know.
We even went out to lunch together. He is a man full of life. Full of spark. All I can recall from today are the documentary questions, and his laughter that can make others smile without his consent.
"How did it go?" Riya asks as soon as I get back to our apartment.
"Tiring" is the only word I could muster up and this point.
Riya laughs as she hands me a glass of water with one hand and my phone in other. Goodness Gracious I missed my phone all the day. I thought it takes only an hour or so to answer his questions but man did it take a whole day!
"Mr. Nishil called you. I was in a hurry to go to hospital so I couldn't really answer." She says and I choke on the water.
Did he call? Seriously?
"How is Dhruv?" I ask trying my best to divert this whole issue.
"He is getting discharged in couple of days. And his family is here so I couldn't be there much. He needs his family" she sighs.
There is silence as I gulp the remaining water from the glass. I then muster up the courage to unlock my phone and yes, he indeed called. Wow.
"Is there anything between you too?" Riya asks.
I also try my best hiding my tension. I don't know what to say. I mean, I can say that we are good friends but to everyone out there.. it seems like a fat lie. He didn't even wave a bye back when we went to hospital the next morning. No one believes me even if I say he is different around me.
"Nope. Everything fine. I just forgot my wallet or anything at his place I guess?" I say.
I don't want to sit there anymore. She could catch any lie when it comes to me. So I silently walk from there saying I need a shower so bad.
Once I go to my room, I quickly text him back saying I was busy. I couldn't call him because I don't know what to talk anymore. I quickly hop in for a shower because all I can think of right now, is relaxing as hot water kisses my skin making it blush beet red.
I actually take my time this time. I feel it's heaven.. hot bath after a long tiring day. And falling on to the bed the next minute is beyond heaven. Please walk away if you don't want to agree.
Once I'm done, I jump into my lavender coloured pajamas that are comfy as heck! I walk to the living room and the scent of freshly cooked Gulab Jamun hits my nostrils.
"Uhuh! What's special today that you made some Gulab Jamun!!" I wiggle my eyebrows at Rhea as I shove one full Gulab Jamun into my mouth.
I can only hear Riya's laugh and nothing else. Gulab Jamun is not just a dessert. It's happiness.
"Arni.." she pauses and I wait for her to finish what she wants to say,. "Your best friend is not single anymore"
I take a moment. And then I squeal. The next moment, I engulf her into a huge hug and squeeze her as she laughs out loud. I am really happy for her. I can actually say that Dhruv is the one for her. The way their smiles get wider in each other's presence says it all.
We then sit in living room and talk about how it all went as we eat the Gulab Jamun. Ugh I just can't stop eating these!
"His father straight up smiled and said I look more beautiful than his wife so the next generation and family tree would automatically get good visuals" Riya says and we both laugh once again.
It's a good thing that Dhruv's parents are also so acceptive of Riya. Never knew my best friend would be single at morning and committed the same day evening with the blessings of the guy's family. Wow again!
The doorbell rings and I gesture saying I got it. I opened the door only to see Nishil standing like he owns this freaking place!
His black hair perfectly combed. And he looks so good in suit. With this, I saw him in formals, T shirt and now in his suit too. And I should also mention he slayed it very very very well!
"I know I'm charming but you look like you still need time to get ready" he grins.
That is when I fall back into reality with a huge thud. Nishil is standing here. Before me. At my freaking apartments! What the f**k!!
"Why are you here?" I ask him.
He looks at me with amusement written on his eyeballs. Then smiles showing his white set of pearls . Gosh! Everything about this man is so distracting.
"Hello to you too" he whispers.
I roll my eyes and before I have a chance to know the actual reason, Riya walks towards us and stands there in shock.
Nishil just smiles and waves at her. Argh! Not now!!!
"Please come in Mr. Nishil" she invites him in.
He walks in and I roll my eyes once again. What is he even trying to do? It was just yesterday he behaved like he doesn't know me at all. Didn't even look at me when I was leaving. And now he is at my doorstep? I don't understand this man at all!!
"What brings you here?"
"Why are you here?" Riya and I ask at the same time but the tone and the way we asked him is so different I had to close my eyes and hide my face somewhere.
"I'm here to pick her up" he says looking at me.
Pick me up?
"Huh?" Riya asks again and looks at me.
I look at her and think of ways I can convey that even I don't understand what he is talking about. Because yes, I have no idea what he means about picking me up.!
This time, he doesn't answer. So I look at him and his eyes are on the huge bowl of Gulab Jamun and his eyes clearly convey he is attracted to them.
I laugh to myself. I don't waste another second and run to the kitchen and grab a tiny bowl, a spoon and walk back to the kitchen. I put four of these sugary dough balls and hand it to him.
"To me?" He asks not hiding his surprise.
"Yes. Because it's a good news" I whisper the last part.
He smiles as he takes the bowl from my hand.
"Yeah. I heard the good news" he smiles.
And that is when I mentally hit myself. Of course he knows! Dhruv is his best friend so it's obvious he knows already!!
Riya is now a blushing tomato!
"Ok! What did you mean you are here to pick Arni up? Any emergency Mr. Nishil?" Riya asks quickly diverting the topic.
I look at him because I am curious as well.
"I sent her a text. But she didn't check that I guess. So I'm here. Making up for my rude behaviour the other day" he says with his firm voice.
Damn!
"M-making up for your r-rude behaviour?" Riya stutters.
Nishil just nods. One simple nod. That is it. I am a blushing tomato now. Never did a guy show me this sweet gesture so it really feels good. Now I am all excited out of blue.
"I really didn't see that. Give me 5 minutes" I whisper and run to my room.
I Spot my phone on bed and unlock it.
"Free for dinner? I'll pick you up?" His text read.
Uhh.. this sounds like a question actually. But he is already here to pick me up? Ok! I seriously really don't understand him.
I rummage through my closet and choose a pale blue summer dress that reaches my knees. This is personally my favorite one and odd enough, I feel confident in this. So yeah.
Good thing I showered not too long ago. So I just wash my face and slip into my dress. Opting for no make up look I leave my hair as it is. I honestly prefer mo make up look and I feel so foreign with make up on.
I look at myself in mirror. A girl who is average but her smile bright stares back at me. I smile at her and nod to myself.
This is it.! My very first date. With a man I didn't even see coming.
