Depressing faded brown wallpaper covered the walls. There was a pattern hidden in there somewhere, but it all looked so old and long past decades when that wallpaper was manufactured to identify it. The single bed masquerading as a double had a mattress, so finished it dipped in the center like a valley. The red blanket covering the bed was almost threadbare and held suspicious stains. He didn’t want to guess at what they might be. The curtain on the single window in the small room was the same color as the blanket and just as clean.
