Chapter 6
Winston reached for his flashlight. He grabbed it and went to check on Joy and Angela. They were headed from their rooms, and they all met in the hall.
Angela asked, “What the hell happened? I was knocked out of bed.”
“Me, too.” Joy looked worried. “Was it an earthquake?”
Winston said, “Don’t know.” Then he sniffed. “Something’s burning.” They rushed outside into the drizzle to see the roof ablaze. “I bet it was a lightning strike.” He shook as he watched the flames slowly advance around the roof. “We can’t fight that with no water hose.”
“The rain will put it out.” Angela hugged Winston.
“Not hard enough right now. We need more rain, a lot harder. Let’s get everything out of the house that is important.” He pouted. “I suppose that’s just food and clothes.”
