Prologue
“What do you need?” his voice was laced with evil and ruthlessness.
I would have known that Porter Alejandro Dunn is this kind of evil. Of course, he wouldn’t be known as the business industry’s bad boy if he wasn’t this…intense.
His dark brown eyes are piercing through my being as I stared at him. His thick brows are furrowed as he licked his lower lip. He’s leisurely sitting on his swivel chair while he stares at me with a devil’s smirk.
My throat seemed to have run dry. I have thought about this for almost a week and just a while ago, I was so sure I would ace this. I was so sure I would convince him into helping even though most of my trusted people already told me that this is going to be a suicide mission.
It won’t be suicide mission, I have repeated over and over again.
It was my own pep talk because everyone seemed to have given up on me—given up on my family’s business.
But I can’t give it up. My parents worked so hard for this. Their deaths will be in vain if I let the bank and the board take our airline company from us. I am their only daughter and I believe that I am responsible for our company now. My parents left it to me.
For me to manage.
And I will…
Or just so I thought.
I have thought about so many possible ways and tried every possible means to save our business but they all failed. I have failed in all of them.
Thus, here I am, standing in front of the most ruthless business man in the whole state, ready to beg him for his help, ready to give what he needed.
“I…” my voice trembled as I started to speak. This is not good.
Mr. Porter Dunn’s eyes squinted at me, seemingly annoyed that I am taking so much of his precious time. He clenched his jaw as he linked his fingers and placed them under his chin while laying back on his swivel chair.
I swallowed and took a deep breath. You can do it!
“I am Graziella Pauline Fuller, the only daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Paulo Fuller of the Grazen Airlines.”
Mr. Dunn raised his brow and c****d his head to the side. “What is the only daughter of Mr. Fuller doing here?” he asked in a deep voice.
I pursed my lips in a thin line and swallowed. “I…am here to ask…for your help, Mr. Dunn.”
He stared at me, expressionless. I don’t know but his face definitely is giving me a whole new surge of anxiety.
“The bank and the board wanted to take over the company…and I…cannot let that happen,” I began.
Tears are already forming in the sides of my eyes. Never in my whole life have I imagined that everything would turn out this way. My life has always been perfect. My parents support me in everything I do. Our business was the crème of the crop amongst airline industries.
But overnight, all of it was just…gone.
And now, I have to work hard to save it.
“I want you…to help me…keep my parents’ company,” I shut my eyes and pretended that all of this was just a part of a bad dream.
Yes. A nightmare and I will wake up soon.
My squeezed my hand tightly as I heard the sound of the wheels of the swivel chair rub against the floor. I heard footsteps that are coming nearer.
A manly scent immediately greeted my nose. I opened my eyes and saw Mr. Dunn’s face so close to mine. He narrowed his eyes at me as he lifted his hand to my cheek.
“You’re crying,” he said softly.
I bit my lip and tried to hold my breath. His touch…was so gentle. He delicately wiped the tears on my cheek without breaking his eye contact with me.
“How old are you?” he asked.
“T-twenty-two,” I stuttered.
His jaw clenched and he suddenly looked different. The rare gentleness on his sinfully handsome face turned gloomy once again. It’s as if reminding me about doom.
“Do you know me?” he asked.
I nodded. “You’re Porter Alejandro Dunn.”
He smirked. “Uh-huh,” he whispered. “Do you know what I do, Graziella?”
His hoarse voice is almost making my whole body shiver. My heart started to race faster because of nervousness and fear of what the outcome of our meeting will be.
“Y...you import tons of different kinds of cars from the US to anywhere in the world,” I retorted. “You own the biggest shipping line in the country—”
“Can you go straight to the point, Ms. Fuller?” he cut me off.
Porter Dunn is an investor in our company. He wasn’t really involved in the movement to oust the current management in our company because he is busy with his business that’s why he is the only person who’s going to be a huge help for me.
“You’re my only hope in keeping my parents’ company,” I said. “I heard that you’re looking into opening up your own airline but is still hesitant because you are not an expert on how it works.”
He stared at me, c*****g his head to the side like he’s so interested.
I bit my lower lip and took a deep breath. “Y-you can just buy some of the board’s stocks—”
“That’s funny, Ms. Fuller. You’re asking me to buy the stocks of the board members who left,” his eyes seemed to always be this intense. “If I do that, I will become the major stockholder in your company.”
“Exactly. You can have a position—”
“What position?”
“CEO!” I exclaimed. I have thought about this, alright. He can be the CEO while I will act as the chairman. However, I can make him manage the whole company first while I study how it rolls.
That is my plan. I have thought about it so hard because I am so desperate for him to help me. Businessmen like him would only want a deal that would benefit them the most. Porter Dunn wanted to open an airline but is not an expert on the means on how to operate it.
Now, he can get to work at our airline company, an established airline, one of the best in the country. He can now stop thinking about opening a new one because I already offered him a high position in the company!
He laughed hysterically. I watched him with my heart booming against my chest. Why is he laughing? Did I say something funny?
Did he not want to be the CEO? Does he want to be the chairman?
He stopped laughing and stared at me with an amused face. “Do you know how you can pay me for this huge favor?”
I was almost taken back if only he didn’t hold my arm and made me stay on my spot. “W-what d-do you mean?”
There’s no way I am going to pay him for it too. I didn’t think of that. But this man…this man is the bad boy of the business industry. He is the dark horse.
“I don’t give a f**k about those positions, Ms. Fuller. I don’t care if you give me a position or not. It’s not the p*****t that I want,” he uttered. Each word is laced with evil.
“W-what?” I asked.
Anxiety and fear are about to eat me up. I hate that I had to end up doing this. If only I was well-versed with business, this should have been easy for me. But since my course is out of the business industry, I find it hard to understand how this works.
He tilted his head and smiled wickedly. “Your body…” he said as he looked at me from head to foot.
His stare is so strong that I think it penetrated my whole being. I hated how my whole body reacted with the way he looked at me from head to foot. It was as if every single system in my body has shivered and malfunctioned.
“W-what…” I couldn’t even continue my sentence because Mr. Porter Dunn’s words have thrown all of my sanity out the window.
“You,” he repeated. “I am going to help you…only if you surrender your body to me.”
Holy s**t!
“B-but…”
“It’s a no, then,” he said dismissing me.
This is how he is the dark horse of business. He knows what he wants and he knows to get it! f**k it!
He started to turn around and I was almost panicking. No. No, Grace. This is the only way. This is the only hope for my parents’ company.
I walked to him and held him arm. He stopped and looked at me, raising his brows.
My lips parted. I don’t know what to say. My body is only reacting on its own. “I’ll do it,” I shut my eyes and prayed that everything will be alright.
The Great Porter Dunn smirked at me before turning around to face me. He stepped a little closer, just enough to close the space separating the both of us. He snaked his arm around my waist while the other moved towards my face.
He looked at me with eyes full of lust and desire. “Let’s do it,” he said before crashing his lips on mine.
Damn. I am doomed.
