Chapter Six
Three weeks later, Madeleine was still unsettled about the disturbing incident with the dildo. The anxiety raised that day would not go away—nor would the shocking emotions that surfaced afterwards. She had, however, made some decisions in response to the disaster. Wednesday afternoons would be strictly devoted to more normal pursuits. No Vodka, no motels on the highway, and certainly no dildos. The one she’d purchased for that afternoon was hastily thrown into a dumpster twenty miles from home. She would have gone even further that first Wednesday afternoon, but then that would have been just another impetuous and ill-conceived exploit, the very kind she was determined to stop.
