I woke up to a warm and sunny Sunday morning. The birds were chirping, and I couldn't help but to feel envious of their happiness that came with the morning, I hate the morning. Sun in general drove me nuts. I preferred the night. The night was just so much more beautiful in my opinion. The moon is just so much prettier than the sun.
Anyway, enough of that. I had to get up and start the day. I had just moved into my own cottage on somebody's farm. It was the perfect dream place for me. I was surrounded by forest and rolling green hills. I was also lucky enough to have gotten myself a rescue horse that I was able to keep on the farm for free, which was such a bargain for me. I made sure to take him on a ride every morning, it was good for the both of us to get some fresh air. I worked at an animal rehabilitation centre, and I worked part time for the vet. I studied straight after school to work as a vet someday. I was halfway through my Veterinary science degree. That means I had three years left to be able to become a vet. I went to university at least twice a week whenever I had classes.
I got out of bed, and I stripped off my pyjamas, and I put on a sports bra, and I slid a white shirt over. I put on my black leggings, and I put on socks, followed by my black boots that I used to ride in. I walked to my little wooden kitchen, and I put some water in the kettle, looking out my kitchen window and I smiled. I was privileged to have such a beautiful kitchen view. My view consisted of the forest being right in front of me. The forest was almost on my doorstep. I loved it so much.
It was a miracle that I was even able to afford this place, but I knew the owners for forever, and they wanted a trustworthy person to live in the cottage, so they chose me.
I couldn't be happier that I could stay here. It was small but it was perfect for me.
I took my phone, sliding it into my pocket, and I walked outside, the cold and crispy air hitting my face, and I shivered. I locked the cottage, and I put the keys into the same pocket with my phone. I walked over to the huge barn that was a bit of a distance from me, but walking is good. The funny thing was that the cottage was on the other side of the farm, far from the actual main house, and barn, but I liked privacy, so it was fine with me.
"I'm really not a people person." I muttered to myself, and I smiled when I saw the barn. The barn wasn't anything fantastic, but it was aesthetically pleasing for me. It had dark wood, and a large double door on either side of the barn. They also had a loft, or an attic should I say. I finally what felt like forever, arrived at the barn. I opened the wooden doors, and they opened, light flooding into the dark barn. The barn smelt like hay, and horse.
"Hi Lucky." I walked over to my black horse. He was a big boy. He had two white socks over his legs, and a diamond shaped patterning on his face.
"How are you today gorgeous?" I smiled, opening the stable door, it latching open. Lucky walked over to me, hoping that he could get some carrots or apples.
"I'm sorry boy, not this morning. Mommy needs to go do some shopping after work, okay?" I sighed, and Lucky watched me, his ears pricked, and focused on me.
Great, that makes me feel even more terrible.
"Let's go for a ride boy." I walked out his stable and went to fetch his tack. I picked it all up, and I walked to him, setting the tack down onto his stable door. Lucky walked up to the tack, and he smelt it, making me laugh at his greediness.
"Not everything is about food, Lux." Once he was finished smelling the tack and realising that the tack would not turn into food, he grunted, and walked back to his hay net. He began to eat the hay, and I shook my head, and I walked into the stable. I took a soft brush, and I began to brush his body down, getting the dust off him. Once the dust was all off, I put his black numnah on, and once it was on properly, I put the saddle on his back while he just continued to eat his food, unbothered by me. I tightened the saddle, and I took the bridle, taking Lucky's face, and slipping the bridle on him, the bit going into his mouth, and I put it over his ears, and tightened the bridle.
"Almost done." I mumbled, and I took his boots and I put it on his back legs and his front legs, just protecting it.
I always put his boots on while riding in the mountains.
"And you are done." I smiled, and I petted his face. He stood still, waiting for me to get on him.
I led him out the stall, and he walked after me. I took him to the mounting block that was just outside the barn, and I climbed on it. Lucky stood next to me, and I climbed onto him, adjusting my feet into the stirrups, and I grabbed the reins. I stroked Lucky's neck, and I gave him a little nudge with my heels, and he began to walk forward.
One of my most favourite places to be was on Lucky, walking through nature with him.
I led him into the entrance to the forest, and he walked forward, his ears pricked, watching his surroundings. Luckily with the amount of times that we rode this trail, there was a sandy trail that had been made. I made sure that we didn't go too deep in the forest for safety reasons.
I let most of his rein go, as he knew the trail by now, and I liked to give him as much freedom as I could.
The birds chirping in the tall trees was melodic to me, and so peaceful for me.
The path led to cutting out of the trees, to on-top of the mountains, and I stroked Lucky's neck to remind him that he was doing a good job.
I've never been deep into the forest, and a part of me was curious as to what could be hiding in the dark shadow parts of the forest..
Maybe one day I'll go look.
Once we got out the forest, Lucky began to walk up the mountain, and I admired the view. The view was of rolling mountains for the eye to see, and forest everywhere. It was something out of a book, or a movie. It was so beautiful, every single time I was completely amazed by the beauty.
Lucky turned his head as well as to look at the view too.
"Pretty, huh boy?" I smile, and I pat his neck, and he pricks his ears forward, responding to my pats.
Once we reached the top of the mountain, I brought Lucky to a halt, and we just stared at the view in front of us, the cold breeze blowing through my hair, making me shiver.
Some parts of the forest were darker than others. It was the shadow parts, it made me wonder if anything lurked inside the forest?
Who am I kidding, it's probably nothing.
I nudged Lucky on, and we turned around to go back home, the ride home was nice and peaceful.
Once we go to the barn, I climbed off him, and I untacked him. He used this opportunity to scratch his head against my back, and I laugh, allowing him to get finished.
Once he was finished, I took off his saddle, and bridle, putting a soft halter on him.
"You're always such a good boy, huh?" I mumble, and I give him pats.
He knew that every time after a meal, he got spoilt. I walked to the feed room, and he followed me. I got his black bucket, and I filled it with some horse pellets.
I walked over to his paddock, and I opened the gate for him, allowing him to walk into it, and he turned around once he was in it, waiting for his food. I set his food down on the ground, and he began to eat.
"Hi to you, Felix." I giggled as the horse in the paddock next to him walked up to us, neighing as he saw the food. Felix and Lucky usually stayed in the same paddock together, excluding when Lucky was eating because Lucky is, so food driven.
"Be good you two." I walked to the barn, packing the tack away, and I yawned, feeling tired.
I needed to go to work later, so I need to get ready.
