DISAPPOINTED WITH ME

Maggi’s P.O.V.

I was working for Rey & Chris Enterprises for the last 2 years. I requested Dad to let me work somewhere else but he refused and now I had to deal with Theo in every meeting or here and there in the office. As I was pursuing my master’s in Finance, so dad recruited me to the finance department. I loved my work. It was all for the rest of my life.

I didn’t like the way Theo looked at me. He held an unknown emotion in his eyes whenever he looked at me. I never looked at him eye to eye. That made me feel disgusted for myself.

We had an in-house meeting today. He had cracked a deal last week and we needed to discuss the strategy with all departments. I was with my HOD Mr. Marcus Garfield. He was a chubby man in his 50s. He was very generous and liked to cracked jokes. I liked working with him as he was like a father figure for me. I tried to convince him that there was no need for me to go to this meeting as he needed only HOD’s there, but he insisted and almost commanded me.

As soon as, Theo entered the room, everyone stood up and greeted him. As usual, he was in his white shirt. He liked to wear white most of the time. This color made his aura more intimate and powerful. I too stood up but didn’t look at him.

He greeted everyone and then signaled us to sit down. His P.A. handed us a file related to the new project we were about to start in 3 months. Mr.  Garfield gave the file to me and I started to study every detail related to the project and started noting down what was related to our department.

He cleared his throat and all looked at him. As usual, I dropped my pencil with the file on the table but didn’t look towards him. For some time, there was silence in the room. I knew that he was looking at me. Then his P.A., Aiden started the presentation and I looked towards the large screen where the presentation was running. It was in the opposite direction from his seat. I felt someone gaze on me and I knew that he was looking at me.

Aiden paused the presentation at a point and I knew that Theo would come to discuss that point with us. He would talk with every department’s HOD one by one and then I had to speak with him as Marcus told me to handle this on his behalf. Sometimes Marcus really behaved like a lazy a**.

He started his discussion with every other department and I busied myself preparing for my turn. I found that we didn’t have sufficient funds right now to invest in this project before we get the advance from the other company.

“Marcus, we don’t have the required funds”, I whispered to Marcus and he instantly straightened up himself.

“What are you talking about? How it can be possible”, he whispered in a surprising tone and took my notes from my hand.

“We didn’t receive the balance payments from our last 3 projects we completed in the last 2 months. The recovery department is working on this but we need time”, I whispered again stating the fact why we're lacking in funds.

“It seemed that Finance Department has something very important that they can’t discuss after this meeting”, I heard Theo’s irritated voice and I lowered my head while closing my eyes.

Marcus cleared his throat and looked at me. It seemed that he got the signal that I am not ready to talk right now.

“The matter is really important Theo that Maggi marked from this file”, he said in a calm voice. That was one of his potentials I like in him most that he remained calm even in tensed conditions.

“Can you please elaborate, Mr. Garfield”, Theo asked him in an annoyed tone. He was expecting me to talk but I started writing on my notepad what we need to tell him for Marcus.

He took my note pad and then looked at Theo. “We have a situation here in terms of finances we need to start this project. The initial stage of this project requires around 50 million bucks and right now we have only 30 million in our reserve”, he explained without adding any ifs and buts.

“What”, Theo almost yelled in surprise. “How did this happen”, he demanded an explanation.

Marcus looked at me and I knew that it was my turn to speak. “Maggi has some facts here to share about this solution but I proposed that we discuss these facts later in the departmental meeting you ordered today”, he said to Theo and I released a breath in relief.

There was silence in the room again. “Okay…. I think, first I need to discuss with you guys then we go ahead with other departments”, he looked at everyone and everyone nodded in agreement.  “The meeting with your department was 3rd in the row but I am swiping it with PR. So, we meet again in another half an hour”, he said and dismissed everyone and stormed out of the room.

Everyone followed his suit and went out except me and Marcus. Marcus sat back on his seat and looked at me. “Is this time slot efficient for you?” he asked me with concern. I straightened myself and looked at me, “You know me, Marcus”. I said to him and smiled.

“That’s like my girl”, he beamed and I laughed a little. “You know Marcus, sometimes you act like a child”, I said to him and he pouted that made him so adorable and I pulled his cheek and he jerked back a little. “Ouch woman…. You are hurting me”, he said while caressing his cheeks. I laughed again and then we both stood up from our seats and went towards the door.

We startled when Theo suddenly opened the door and now we were standing in front of each other. I instantly lower down my gaze slipping a little towards Marcus's back.

“Whoah Theo… you scared us”, Marcus exclaimed. “I forgot my phone here”, I heard Theo’s disappointing voice. He was disappointed with me but this is what he could get from me.
