Chapter 6 When Perry awoke, the clock by his bedside read twelve o’clock. Noon? s**t, he had things he needed to do. Despite the long night, he couldn’t afford to sleep so late. Then he remembered the encounter at dawn. Dizzy joy mixed with a shadow of shame flashed through him. How could he have gotten so wild? Had he hurt Ike? The other man had denied it, but he had doubts. He realized almost at once that the Ike was not there. Then, as he looked again at the clock, he figured out Ike had gotten up and gone to work hours ago. That provided Perry some relief and a bit of wiggle room.
