Epilogue: Two Months Later October 20, 20— La Selva The Gulf was a stunning blue as autumn settled over Barefoot Beach. A gentle wind caressed our naked bodies in an auburn hammock that hung between two palms. The sounds of the Gulf echoed around us. Its waves lapped over each other and the riptide started to become frisky. The afternoon was friendly and not dispassionate. I was nestled in the crook of Donlito’s chiseled arm, against his right side. He smelled of freshly sliced pineapple and pine nuts. He had just woken up from a nap in the shade, playing lazy while off work. The animals were at peace. Brutash, Perilya, Ortho, and Victor were all being well-behaved as we swung to and fro within the comfortable hammock. Le Selva was a paradise, just as I had thought it always would be.
