Chapter 6

As ordered I sat in the bedroom she was laid in and just watched her sleep. There was definitely something different about her that I couldn't put my finger on. I would know if she was my mate that's for certian, but she clearly had a mate when I showed up here. I spoke to the 3 brothers before I joined last month about me staying where people couldn't really talk to me. I'd been alone for so long I had gotten so used to the quiet life. They agreed and gave me a nice home out in the middle of the woods where occasionally a pack of warriors would pass by just to check the area for rouges. But when I was called by the former leaders about a job I was a little too eager to do it. I missed being on mission, I even used to protect young Don's for the mafia back in the 1920s and 30s. I joined the military when the cold war hit, I was apart of a black ops team, and when they asked us to bomb a abandoned school house where the enemies were, I knew I made a mistake the moment we dropped the bombs. The school was housing homeless families and working as a soup kitchen on the weekends. I left when I found out, I was dishonorably discharged for abandoning the mission. I had 2 others leave with me and that's when I knew I made some good friends back then. I even told them what I was, and they've kept my secret for years. I still keep in contact with them every couple years just to make sure they aren't going withoit the things they need for their families. When the former Alpha's and Luna had told me what my job was and why. I was shocked to say the least. A mate isn't supposed to be unfaithful to the other, then they told me that they didn't have proof but they believed the woman I was to protect was carrying his child. I'm not a man of many emotions and I know I don't show them even when I am angry but the whole situation had made me want to kill the bastard. My lycan was also enthralled by her and her scent, he was the one that pushed me to her earlier when she began to break down. I can ease pain no matter the cause and he didn't want her to loose her child after he heard her thoughts about how much she wished nothing bad to happen to him. But something weird happened that never had happened before. I thought I felt a flow of electricity as I was casting my spell, then for a few seconds there were sparks. That's never happened before. I'd know if she was my mate, a Lycan knows who his mate is by gazing into the others eyes at the first official meeting, I never got that with her, but she hadn't rejected her mate then either. So I still couldn't know for sure. Problem with this rejection after they had marked one another, it takes a couole weeks for the mark to fully disappear along with the bond, so she will still feel him with other people it just won't be as painful because they both rejected their bond. I also wouldn't know if she was my mate or not until that mark is gone. I pretended to be on my phone when I sensed her wake up. Her thoughts were going a million miles a second, she rolled towards me but was quiet for a little bit so I set my phone down and looked over at her. "Sleep well?" I asked her and she nodded her head. "Hungry?" I tried again to get her to speak aloud because the turmoil of her thoughts was making me feel things I shouldn't be. She just shook her head. She's gonna make me do it isn't she? She's going to make me be the d**k I really don't want to be. The longer she stayed silent, the more I was loosing my cool. That husband of hers isn't worth being sad over. I had to stop myself from telling her to get over him, but I knew it wasn't that easy. So I just casually got up from the seat I was in and walked out of the room and quickly made my way outside. I seen one of her dads outside on the porch changing one of the lights on the porch. She had 2 fathers but anyone could tell who was her biological father. "Want to talk about it?" He asked me his brown eyes twinkling with amusement. I ran my hand through my hair and sat down heavily in the chair. "Are you against murder?" I asked him coldly which seemed to amuse him more. "I have never been one against killing somebody who deserve it. But the one you need to ask that is my wife." He chuckled while shaking his head. "She tortured and killed atleast a dozen people in a week's time for the death of Noah when she was still a teenager!" "What?" I looked at him confused, obviously he was pulling my leg because the man was alive and well now. "Clara, took the wolf that had killed him and teleported off with him before she realized that she brought him back." A frown formed on his face like he was remembering a bad memory or something of that nature. "That's alot of damn people!" I blurted out after I heard his thoughts. "Remind me not to piss her off!" "I'll remind you if you remind me. That's why I'm doing the smallest of things now, she gave me a mile long list after I laid Brooke down." He grumbled, the door opened making him turn back to a different porch light. "I need to talk to you!" She said, I knew she was talking to me even though she was looking at her husband. I got up from the chair and walked back in the house with her. "Yes ma'am?" She sighed and turned to me. "I know I am asking alot of you, but Brooke never rejected Ryan in the vision I had. I have no clue what this means for her saftey or her child-" I waved my hand in the air stopping her. "Consider it done." I said looking past her to see said person walking out of the room she was in. Her cheeks were blotchy, that just told me that she had been crying. "Mom?" Her mother turned around and once they made eye contact I heard both of their wolves whine. The mail that her mom was sorting through was dropped to the floor and she made her way to her daughter faster than I could process it. "It's ok baby, just think about your baby and how lucky you are going to be when she is here." Brooklyn let out a deep breath and nodded her head. "I'm not having a girl I'm having a boy!" She then used the sleeves of her shirt to dry her eyes. "I'm so sorry I forgot. I know you hate it when I spill information about your future." Her mother covered her mouth and shook her head at herself, but Brooklyn seemed unfazed, like she was glad to know her baby was a girl and not a boy. I was curious why that was. "Mama, I'm not mad...this time. Thank you for telling me before I went out and had all boy stuff and a little girl by the end of it." A knock sounded at the door, I heard her heart rate pick up so I turned around to go and answer the door this time. Once I got there I turned back to the lady of the house to see if she wanted to open it herself. She made no move to leave Brooklyn so I gripped the handle and opened the door. I sensed no threat from the decouple standing before me, so I moved and allowed them to see who I think they were here for. "Aunt Anna?" A smile was etched on her face when she said her name. "Hey kid, Emily and Lana will be in soon." She ignored her comment and rushed to her wrapping her arms around her. "You aren't allowed to leave ever again." She mumbled into her hair, the woman giggled pulling away, Brooklyn then turned to man beside her and he wrapped his arms around her picking her up from the ground when he did. He placed her back down but before he let her go he breathed in a huge breath of her scent. "You smell different sweetie." "You have been gone for months. Alot has changed, Richard." He looked up over at her mother and nodded. Brooklyn smiled again when she heard 2 laughing girls coming closer to us. The woman named Anna walked over to where Brooklyn's mom was at and hugged her before they began walking away to where the kitchen was at. ""Dad, where is aunt Clara? I have a gift for her!" He turned slightly with his neice snuggled into his side and the two girls that walked in began squealing. "Brooks, where have you been? I have missed your gorgeous face so damn much." The dark haired one stole her from her dad and embraced her. I could tell her emotions were brimming in her own hormonal heart. "Lana, I'll tell you, I promise I'll tell everybody. But I can't today." The other girl who was now identified as Emily came up and hugged her from behind. "I can tell you one good thing that happened while you guys were gone." She pulled away moving so she stood in front of them and her uncle. The fact that they hadn't noticed it was a little funny to me, her i***t husband never even noticed. "I'm pregnant." They all looked down at her stomach after she told them, they now noticed the baby bump she was proudly sporting. The girls sqealed again and engulfed her into another hug. I had to say if my baby sister lived past 4 I was positive this is exactly how she would act over news like that with her friends. "Clara, a little notice would have been nice." Her uncle yelled pretending not to have tears in his eyes. "I don't tell my kids secrets unless it's life threatning." His sister yelled back at him. She pulled away from them, and put a smile on her face that I could tell was forced. Her wolf was whining in her head, but she still held the smile. How long did she want to be brave for everyone? I managed to get her attention by holding my hand out. How much s*x does one man need to prove he still isn't that great without your other half. Yes they rejected each other but the Moon Goddess has her ways for punishment with people like him. I also think Brooklyn should give him a taste of his own medicine and have s*x with somebody she don't even know. No strings attached. But she was a classy lady for somebody her age, so I don't think she would do that. She placed her hand in mine and I walked her outside to the porch and sat down on the steps. I hadn't realized how cold it had gotten so I took my jacket off and placed it on her shoulders. "Would you like me to help you with the pain again?" I asked her seeing as she held her stomach with one hand and rubbed her chest with the other. "No thank you. I have medication in the car." A single tear fell from her eyes but she gave me a genuine smile so I nodded. "I'm not sure how used to people you are, Scott. But my brothers will be here soon at my request , you don't have to be here if you would like to go back to my sister's for a couple hours." "I've been alone for a while, Brooklyn. But I do enjoy your company, so I will not leave your side." I grabbed her arm and lifted her hand up, I moved her sleeve back. "This wouldn't have happened had I been with you today." Her eyes met mine and my lycan smiled with a tail wag. "I was being stupid earlier, I shouldn't have went to see him." "You aren't stupid amoureux, you are in love and didn't want to let that go. Even if it was for the wrong reasons." A small smirk grew on her face. "Yes, but as much as I love him, I also hate him very much. Ryan was my everything before we got married." She looked back at me and for the first time I couldn't hear what she was thinking. "Do you have a mate, Scott?" She asked me softly. I gave her hand a light squeeze. "I don't. But I know she is out there somewhere, I just haven't found her yet." I really wanted to tell her, I think she may be my mate but she was being put through enough without that thought hanging over her.
