A New Day\'s Potential

The shop opens at 8:00am because waiting for 9:00am sounded dumb to Kayla. Idly she wonders again about what Roxi needed help with while she suckled on the remainder of the core’s juices. If it was important and if someone would answer the call, what would she have to do to train them? Kayla grimaced but knew she had full reigning power on who would ultimately get the job, if anyone at all. Movement on the pavement has begun with several cars, packed with double passengers, looking for their vehicles pulls her attention back to the now. Reluctantly she waves to them, leaving the roof and opening the shop, arming herself with her pistol, her visual expectation that no one would f**k with her that day. Her customers knew this and respected it. Some chatted about her firearm and the necessity of it, bringing up the stories about her and her place altogether but Kayla would smile, tap it, and tell them to believe all they’ve heard. Now that she was in the front, Kayla pulled a key ring attached to a retractable zip line on her belt to unlock a series of padlocks and proceeded to pull up the gates as she realized the line forming on the other side of the office’s doorway. Tossing her apple core in the wastebasket next to the door she pushes the heavy thing open for her first customer. The older man catches it and soon the lobby is full of last night’s patrons. Numbers are called and keys are given after p*****t. It’s not long before they’re gone and Roxi walks in after them. It’s nice to see her chipper face after that lot left. They were either underserved this morning or all had to be somewhere yesterday. All of which made her exceedingly happy to have done the work when she got up instead of taking that swim like she had planned to. “Good morning, Kayla!” Roxi smiled. “Hey Roxi,” Kayla grinned back at her sister. Kayla cracked her gum loudly as ever and is kind enough to drop her headphones over her collarbone when she speaks to her friend. “It’s going to be a hot one today, 115 degrees, the radio said. Want me to run for ice? It’s like a dollar a bag,” Roxy pauses for effect before speaking again, “we could put some in the pool.” Kayla couldn't help but giggle at Roxi for it. Ice in the pool was fun to kick around, she agreed, then opened the register to retrieve a twenty to handle it. “Take my truck when you go,” she adds, figuring her little Beetle would not hold it all. “Thanks,” Roxi welcomed Kayla’s allowance and using the truck meant not getting her Beetle wet, and that was a plus regardless of the heat that could dry it, no doubt. It was more that she couldn't stand having to put products in the material to make that mildew smell go away afterwards. The truck was just better. After, Kayla nodded over at her wanted sign, asking what it was for, specifically. “Oh,” Roxi smiled shyly. The blush in her cheeks rose from soft to scarlet before telling Kayla about it. “Frank is coming home and I’ve got it bad!” Roxi chuckled nervously then added, “We’re gonna go looking for houses too!” Kayla lifts a teasing eyebrow. “Really? That’s exciting,” she cant help the way that it comes out but Roxi moving further than where they already were scares her. “Where are you thinking of upgrading to?” “Oh just around here,” she says, assuring her friend. “This is the best job I’ve ever had and I really enjoy being with you,” Roxi winks. Kayla can't help the wave of relief that set in. Her next questions felt lighter, less complex. “You know just what to say,” Kayla grins. “What are you looking to cover? Everything you do?” “Clerical work, errands for you and whatever you need,” Roxi waves over her entire form in a less than suggestive way. “What do they call them these days?” She thinks about it bringing both hands to her temples, “Frank said they were,” she paused again. “They were… Administrative Assistants.” “Sounds fancy,” Kayla pokes at Roxi. “It is fancy,” Roxi happily agreed. “So, I have a note on the sign that says to see me outside, but we may have to move it inside so that there aren't bodies dropping outside in the heat.” Kayla can only agree but they wouldn't be allowed just anywhere on the grounds, that was for sure. “Use the lobby,” she said, suggesting the area they were currently in. It was caged off and Kayla would be safe with her impending Heat while she worked in the back as long as the front stayed locked up. She didn’t need any problems today, and as if the Maker himself realized her prayer, she got exactly what she wanted. No one came. It was rather lucky if she said so herself. Kayla wasn’t exactly interested in a bunch of bodies in her lobby unless they were there for business. She’d been waiting on some deliveries during the day which had come in, but aside from that, she was happy to work until the afternoon where the day was known to be at its hottest point to go lounge around the pool with Roxi. Chyanne came by around five in the evening exclaiming that she’d been approved for suppressants for Kayla, claiming that it was mildly against the law for a Beta to apply for such a large dosage, but an older coworker had warmed up to her today saying that she’d been doing it for years, and could hook her up. “My faith has been restored in humanity,” Chyanne promised gleefully. “That’s amazing but I don’t want you losing your job for me,” Kayla implored. “Oh, I won’t,” Chyanne puts her hands up saying, “We’re covered. I’m claiming you as a dependent and you can just pay the difference for them.” Kayla can feel the way the sensation of tears welling up in her eyes before they do. She feels the immediate need to give her sister the biggest hug, and so Kayla pulls herself up out of the pool and wraps Chyanne in a sopping wet hug. “You’re the best, babe,” Kayla says as she stifles her whimper, “aside from having sisters like you, that’s one of the nicest things anyone has ever done for me!” Chyanne drops her bag and pulls Rey in. “You have no idea what you’ve done for all of us. This is the least I could do,” she smiles into Kayla’s hair. Footsteps and a cat call behind them suggest it’s Pedro and Kayla opens her eyes and flips him off. “I’m stealing your Mate. She was meant for me,” she chortles. Pedro raises an eyebrow. “I’d like to see you try,” he says then turns his head to look at Rose, “There’s a handful of people in the front asking about the position.” “Can you tell them to come back in the morning and we’ll handle it then? We need them to perform and Kayla wants to make sure they’re not just smelling her. Are you going to be here for this? I’m sure it will be quite the show?” asks Roxi, winking at Kayla in a knowing way. Kayla releases Chyanne, asking, “Is this just for your entertainment?” “Mildly,” replies Roxi. “Those fools have no idea what they’re walking into. If I didn’t know you were an Omega, I’d have first guessed Alpha.” Kayla’s smile beams as it stretches across her face, “I don't know if I should be amused or offended...” “...Ow?” Pedro replies as the only Alpha before them, which makes her grin all that much more. The moment Pedro leaves to confront the applicants, the girls begin to chatter about Chyanne’s job, all of which she can be certain is not as much fun or give her the flexibility she had while she worked under this roof, but it was serving a purpose, and that was what mattered to Chyanne. Several minutes later, Pedro returns with drinks and towels to see that Chyanne has entered the pool, Roxi was laying out on one of the chase lounges he had found and fixed earlier in the year. She was situated with a book, replacing her focus with a large, long yawn. His count was two, his brow furrowed at the thought that he hadn’t seen Kayla and had gone right into Alpha protection mode, furiously scanning the area to find her until the sound of the showers he helped create started raining down off to the side of him. Kayla had been in the shower. To soothe his own Alpha, he called for her to make sure she was alright. “Yeah, I have some things I want to do before tomorrow. The lift has been sputtering when I turn it on and I need to make sure it works or that engine isn’t getting finished. I need that done,” she groaned her dissatisfaction that it had even been a problem, then added, “It’ll be a good pay out, one we need.” “Uh huh,” Pedro agreed, then said, “Just let us know if you need anything,” he called to her, putting a towel over her door. Thanks dear,” she says teasingly as she turns off the shower. Next she covers herself and heads inside, adding, “Lock up when you’re done.” The three of them calling back to her not to worry and that they had this.
