Chapter 8The weeks pass and we both work hard to become us again, to find the relaxed atmosphere we both crave. Not every day is smooth sailing, but whenever we hit a snag, we talk. We talk and talk and talk and it’s exhausting. But necessary. Frankie is the one with endless patience, and I’m amazed he never seems to run out of it. But he’s had plenty of opportunities to practice, of course; working with chocolate, transforming it into something both tasty and pretty, takes a lot of patience. I, on the other hand, want things to progress faster. I want this stubbornly lingering uncertainty to go away now, but Frankie says it will take time. It takes time. Sure. But how long? “For some people it can take more than a year,” he said once, and that was not what I wanted to hear. Changes
