Chapter 6 Make Babies

Zara's POV How the f**k did this happen? I wasn't expecting my husband Xander to know Tania. How were they knowing each other? My whirlwind of questions came to an abrupt halt when there was a knock on the director's door. Both of us looked at the door to find a nurse. She said, "Director, the setup is ready in the conference room. The board is waiting for you." The director nodded and said, "Yes, I am coming." Rising from his seat, the director stood in front of me and said, "I know it's shocking for you, Zara. But don't lose hope. I am sure you can get an internship elsewhere too. All the best." With those words, he left the office. I balled my hands into tight fists. I worked so hard day and night because I wanted to get that internship in Lennon hospital. Every doctor dreamt of being in that hospital. Getting into that hospital required sheer hard work and consistency and Tania had neither of the qualities in her. Why do I feel she did apply some shortcut to get that internship so soon? Standing in the office was pointless and I decided to head back to my office space. Never did I expect that golden opportunity would slip off from my hands like that. This was so damn unfair. I opened the door to my small room and I was shocked to see who was there inside. "You…" I said, narrowing my eyes at a slender figure seated on my desk. The moment she saw me at the entrance, she rose from the desk and said, elated, "Oh wow! Zara is finally here." That was Tania. But why was she here? Don't tell me she was here to make me do her shift because I wasn't going to do it. I had a lot to do already. Running to me, Tania grabbed my hand and got me inside. "How was your work, Zara?" She asked, smiling at me. Well, Tania had never been so sweet and considerate to ask me such a question. It would always be Andrew asking me such questions just to make sure I was fine. I replied concisely, "Fine!" All of a sudden, Tania raised her hand and touched my face gently. Woah! What was wrong with this chick? Why was she being so sweet to me? She already got what I needed; the prestigious internship at Lennon Hospital. What else could she take away from me? "You look so pale, honey. It looks like, like always you have overworked yourself, Zara," She said, pouting her lips and feigning innocence. That look didn't just suit her. And what the hell was she talking about? She was worried for me and didn't want me to overwork. If that was the case, she should herself complete her duties rather than pushing on my shoulders. "Zara, why aren't you saying anything?" Tania said dramatically, shaking me a little. Wasn't it clear from my face that I had no wish to talk to her?! I freed myself from Tania's grab and said, "It's fine, Tania." Looking at her with my frosty eyes, I asked, "Why are you here, Tania?" Tania pursed her lips and furrowed her eyebrows. Nudging me gently, she said, "What sort of question is that? Can't I come to check on my friend if she is okay or not?" "I am okay," I said instantly. Losing the internship unfairly was already giving me a throbbing headache and I just wanted some solace. She better leave me right away. I didn't understand why Tania was being so touchy. She grabbed my arms yet again and said, "Don't lie to me. I know you are not okay. But I know how to make your mood alright." What? Really? She was surely kidding me. She was an all-time mood spoiler. She could not be an air of refreshment for me. With a thrilling smile, Tania said, "It's your break time, so let me treat you with dinner." That was something new but I wasn't in the mood to know why she would like to give me a dinner treat. I straightly turned her offer down, "Tania, it's fine. I don't feel like having dinner right now." But Tania didn't budge. "Come on, Zara, you can't decline my offer. It's my treat. Shouldn't you be happy to know that I bagged the internship at Lennon Hospital?" She said with a slight smirk, her eyes twinkling so much. Ah! So, this was how Tania wanted to brag about the internship she received or should I say she received by DECEIVING? I stood tight-lipped. I was eager to have this chick voluntarily leaving my space to provide me some space to vent my anger. She finally set me free and I assumed she was going to leave but I stood wrong. She twirled around and clapped her hands in joy before standing close to me. Yet again she brushed my long, black hair and sneered, "You can't deny my treat. It's a reward for the hard work you put in on a daily basis and also toasting on my achievement, dear." Well, she was clearly trying to make me envious, making me look like a fool for how stupidly I kept on toiling. "Come on, Zara, let's go. Since it's my treat, you get a chance to choose any restaurant to dine. Be quick, Zara, because I am sure after your break you have some work." She said with a wicked smirk. I juggled myself free and said casually, "Tania, I am seriously not hungry. I got to leave. Bye." Yes, I opted to reply casually because from the way Tania was talking with me, it was crystal clear that she wanted to instigate me and I was surely not throwing my anger or frustration at her because she wanted to see me burning in envy. I left my office space and took the elevator to the second last floor of the hospital. TING! The elevator doors slid open and I stepped outside. I didn't have any work on this floor. It was just that I wanted to be lonely and thus, I knew only one place in the hospital that could be free from any hustle, and that was the terrace. I took the stairs and made it to the terrace. I finally let myself loose and before I could cry in peace, I got a call. Shoving my hand inside the pants pocket, I took out my phone and the moment I saw the caller, I badly had the urge to throw my phone down. It was my so-called step mom, Carla. After how she had made my life a living hell, I wished to push her down this terrace but she had an angel under her grasp, and I couldn't afford anything wrong to happen to my angel. Thus, I had to pick the call. "Hello," I said, my voice cracking out already. As compared to previously, Carla appeared a little calm. "It's good to know that you went to your husband's home, Zara," she sneered. I let my silence serve as the response to her so-called praise. "Now listen to me…" she said, her tone turning brutal. "Just fulfil the purpose for which you are married to Xander, Zara. I want the result super soon." She said with emphasis. Her evil words made my body stiff. My life was already growing worse. Was there any need for her to remind me of the 'purpose' of getting married to Xander? My silence didn't go well with Carla and she scoffed, "Are you dead already?! Listen, you can't be dead without completing the purpose. I gave you so much money in return." Such a heartless step-mother Carla was?! She had to be the only lady to rejoice in my funeral in future if I die before her. Carla couldn't just bear to be the only one to talk. She shouted, "Speak up, you b***h, if you don't want your mother to die." My heart throbbed hard the moment I heard about my only angel left on my planet, my mother. "Please don't do anything to my mother," I said instantly. I heard Carla's roaring laughter. "Haha! Finally, you got your voice back." She sneered. She said with a ridicule, "You know it better than me, Zara, that your hospital job can't make you enough money to pay off your mother's hospital bills." I squeezed my eyes shut. That was the most bitter truth. My eyes grew teary. If only I had enough money but I didn't and that was why I had to accept my evil step-mom's proposal of getting married to Xander. "Have you started with fulfilling your purpose?" She asked me gravely. I said, "Uhm, not yet." Carla snapped in, "Why the f**k haven't you started yet? Zara, you better give a child to Xander or else I will make sure your mother gets the poorest medical care and she dies miserably." My heart stopped beating for a second and my eyes widened in fear. My mother was my only family. I couldn't afford to lose her. "Please, please don't do this to me," I begged Carla. "I won't. If you spread your legs for Xander and allow him to f**k you hard until you are pregnant, Zara." She said wickedly. My step-mother could stoop to any level and for my mother I should be doing whatever she wanted me to do. "Yes, I will get pregnant but please, please don't do anything to my mother, please." I cried. "Good," Carla said curtly before disconnecting the call on my face. No matter what, I will have to save my mother even if it meant having s*x with the cruellest husband in this world, Mr. Xander Walters.
