The bar was as simple as can be. Just a regular long counter for anyone to have drinks and sit at. With its tall chairs, couches and some tables for people to sit at. What really was nicely packed was the dance floor, which was big enough for a small football team to fit. The colors were all black and gray, with low lights of every color. In some corners there were "private" type of booths. I've learned that's where vampires mostly hang out or witches. I could've sworn I saw a fae at one point too. "Hey, Lala." David the bartender called as I walked toward him. David was a werewolf, and by his own mouth told me he was on the lower part of the pack. So he was kind of a neutral person. How could I trust him if he's in a pack? I could kick his ass if he back stabbed me. He was an average joe, but by no means was he bad looking, but I guess his power didn't hit you the same as how an Alpha's did. He had dark-haired, brown eyes, which he just brushed to the side a bit. He stood at 5'6 and was a little bulky. "Hey David, what have you got for me?" He looked at me and asked me closer. I did. "An Alpha meeting is going on up stairs, all four are up there." "You're kidding!" I said, surprised. He shook his head, and I sat back in my seat. Looking at Ivy, who was looking around. "Girl, there are so many...okay sorry." "Stay here, I'm going up stairs." I said. "Or maybe..." said Ivy as she pulled out some little earpieces. "What are these?" "Our solution." right as she said that an order came in for the wolves up stairs. Ivy and I looked at David, as he hid the earpiece on the side of the tray and then took it up stairs. Ivy tuned it well enough that it didn't hurt our ears. She sat close to me so we could both hear it just fine. We heard a door, and then male voices. "So now they're seven?" I heard one man ask, as the tray was set down, and everyone got their drinks. "I bet they're like headless chickens, not even knowing how to deal with themselves!" said another man, which was followed by a roar of laughter. "Don't laugh too hard, gentleman, they've been doing just fine for two whole years." I heard another more soothing voice. That shut the laughing down. The men grumbled and stuff. "What have you heard about their leader if you can even call her that?" "Well..." "She's the one that started to do what we didn't. She's taken in these girls, moving them to safe houses around the city, laugh all you want, but she's doing good for just being a woman." said another voice. I felt a wave of something run through me, like longing of some kind. "It's the twenty-first century men, and as much as we want to sit here and say that women can't deal with power, they can and here's the proof. We need to find them, and ask them to help us with the bigger issue at hand....." Right then, a guy came over clearing his throat. We both turned. "Hi, um...can I buy you a drink?" he asked, unsure. I was about to shut him down, when Ivy cut across me and accepted. They soon left me alone. "Ivy?" I hissed. She glanced over her shoulder and just winked. I tried to go back to listening, but they weren't talking about things I didn't already know from the newspapers. I took the earpiece out, and ordered a drink. Like Ivy, I had a couple guys invite me to dance, which I declined and went back to sipping my drink. After about my third drink, another guy came up to me. This one was oozing overconfidence. He was ripped, his tight shirt told me that much, he was blond and brown-eyed, with a perly white smile, and fairly tall. "Hey, let's dance!" "No, thank you." I said in a neutral tone, then getting up to move, but he grabbed my arm. "When a man asks you to dance, you might want to be less of a b***h!" "When a man invites me to dance, I will," I said, pulling my arm away from him. He didn't like that. (Logan's POV) "I can see why these women are hiding from us. I'm a guy and I barely like being around these guys." "True, but we need to find them before Leo does. I'm scared to see what he'd do to them, if they don't submit." "I'm trying! I've caught her on a few cameras but whoever handles their computer stuff knows what they're doing!" "Well, keep at it. With any luck, they'll be with us before we know it." I looked at my brother, he might be younger than the other three Alphas, but he was still old. Which is why it surprised me that he was so tolerant towards these women being out there. Female werewolves, I might add. Back then you hardly, if ever heard of a woman surviving the change, but just in the past three years there have been six attacks on women and they've all survived the change. From what we can gather, these women were so different from us as we were from them. They didn't change at a full moon, they changed whenever they wanted to. They were well versed in hiding in plain sight. All except her. Tayla had all the focus on her, she was the only one I have seen on the videos, there was something about her that just... A small pain crossed my head, as my wolf all but purred in approval. "Logan?" my brother shook me a little, as my trance broke. "I'm fine." I said, shaking my head a little. My brother's eyes were on me. "I really wish there was a way I could help make this better." "Walker, I'm fine!" I said firmly, but my brother didn't seem convinced. "Let's head home." he said, leading the way toward the door. "Get back here!" "Back off asshole!" I heard a woman say firmly to a guy. We turned right when he hit her in the face. She ran into a table but was still standing and was about to punch him back. "Whoa! that's enough!" I suddenly found myself in between them, the woman stopping herself before hitting me in the back. I was face to face with Otis, Leo's son. Just like his father, Otis was the kind of guy that didn't take rejection well. "Get the hell out of my way." he said coldly at me, as we glared at each other. He is a whole head taller than me. Even if he was bigger, I was stronger than him. "Drop it Otis!" I said with authority. He flinched, and as much as he fought it, he averted his eyes and exposed his neck at me. "Otis!" We all heard Leo shout. With that, Otis walked away, still glaring at the woman and me. I turned and found that the crowd was now watching, but I just turned to look at the woman. " Are you okay?" "Yeah, the guy just couldn't take no for an answer." she joked, touching her mouth with a napkin. It had a drop of blood running along her chin. I took another napkin and caught the rest she missed. There was a moment where my knuckle touched her skin, the rush of electric current that ran up my arm, almost left me breathless. I looked at her face. Or at least what I could see through the mask. Her eyes were the color of honey, her skin was a beautiful tan. I realized I was staring and shook my head and looked away. "Unfortunately, that's what happens with most wolves." "I see." she answered, looking and sounding disappointed by my statement. "Some of us are trying to expand, but not all are willing to." She looked up at me and gave me a little nod and smile. My eyes fell on her lips, those full..red lips. "Thank you for your help. I think I'll call it a night." She said, turning to walk away. My anxiety shot up, and before I could stop myself.... "Can I buy you a drink?" It was lame but at least it stopped her from leaving. She looked at me for a moment, glanced around, then nodded. "Sure." "Really?" I said in shock. I've never had a problem getting women, but they were the ones coming after me. I was tripping over myself to get this woman, whom I didn't know to stay. "Yeah, I guess one drink wouldn't be so bad." I grinned and wished I hadn't. She stopped and looked as if I had just offended her greatly. She was mad now, her heart was beating quickly in her chest. The smile left as fast as it came, and I let her pass me. She went to the bar and I took a seat next to her. She ordered her drink and I ordered mine. My mind was trying to understand who, or what she was. I would say she's a wolf but she wouldn't have been able to reject Otis if she was. She didn't have a scent, so witch maybe. Her energy wasn't dark or magical, she seemed very cold like a vampire would be, but she bled, and showed emotion. "My name is Lala. What's yours?" she finally broke my train of thought. "Gan." I said she was obviously giving me a fake name, so I gave her one too. She caught on though as a knowing smile spread across her beautiful mouth. I clinched my fist, the urge to pull her in my arms and kiss her was becoming too much. What was this woman doing to me? "Here you go you two." the bar tender set our drinks in front of us. "Want to get a booth?" I asked. She looked over her shoulder. "Is there one available?" She looked at me doubtful, but I got to my feet and took her hand in mine. Her skin was warm. So not a vampire. It was soft and rough a little. She worked but also took care of her skin. We went to a booth and sat down. These were called booths with half-round couches, with a small table for drinks, the walls were tall to give more privacy, and dark see though curtains. The lights were dim but she didn't seem to mind, so I didn't move to change them either. "So Gan, what brings you out tonight?" she started taking a sip of her drink. I sat down next to her with my drink. "Business," I said. She looked up at me. She was interested. "What kind?" I had to look away from her eyes. A man can lose himself in those eyes. I took a sip of my drink and cleared my throat. "Money. Stocks and investments." She recoiled and shut down again. "You make money for a customer or do you make money?" "A little of both. Wolves need money too." She looked annoyed but nodded. "Let me guess, rich family but no real relationship with them." "Right, I have money, but it doesn't buy the good people I know, but it's true people need money as long as they realize it's not the only thing they need." We both looked at each other, somehow I felt like this woman understood me better than anyone, but at the same time...My eyes were back on her lips, as she got closer. I could easily be falling into a trap of some kind, but it didn't feel like that. When our lips met, I knew I was a goner.
