When Marina parked in front of the Seabreeze Inn, Kai was outside talking to Ivy Bay, the proprietor, and welcoming others who were arriving.
“Go into the ballroom,” Kai said, directing people. “Axe will check you in.”
Cole unwound his long frame from the passenger side of Marina’s turquoise Mini-Cooper. They made their way past swaying palm trees and up the stone steps of the old beachside inn.
“And who do we have here?” Kai asked, her curiosity clearly piqued.
“This is Cole, an old friend,” Marina replied. “He and Stan served together in Afghanistan.”
Kai tapped a finger on her chin. “You have excellent presence. I’m sure we can find a part for you.”
