SAVANNAH
"You may now kiss the bride. Congratulations!" the priest said. I heard it loud and clear.
Suddenly, the man by my side occupied my range of vision. In all honesty, his face was the kind anyone would love to wake up with every morning.
His smile was so comforting and assuring which in case of doubt, fear, or anxiety, that smile could calm anyone easily.
I am blessed to marry such a man. Whatever was the reason for this marriage, I considered myself very lucky.
"Savannah, I will kiss you now," he muttered in his deep sexy voice. Then his thin and soft lips gently touched mine. It was a fleeting kiss, barely touching my lips, done in a heartbeat. But coupled with his minty breath, I was in heaven. However, that was not the end of it, before I could open my eyes, his lips once again touched my lips, it was definitely more passionate than the first one. I almost raised one of my legs and placed it at the back of another.
I was frozen and rooted on the spot. The romantic double kiss made me weak at the knees and melting in my core, joke. I was glad his arms were wrapped around my slender waist, holding me steady. Incidentally, that was our very first kiss. The little prickling sensation crawled in my frail body, more like a thousand small needles were spiking me from head to toe. It wasn’t painful, though — It was titillating. If I just knew his kiss could melt me like this I had grabbed kisses from him much sooner.
Unfortunately, I have never been kissed by any man so I couldn't say if it was normal or extraordinary.
After the kindling kisses, which could start my fire, I slowly opened my eyes and gazed straight into his. Those eyes took my breath away-- they were like orbs —light brown spherical objects dancing over his long dark eyelashes and thick brows. I breathed deeply before his gaze caused my death, those orbs were spellbinders.
Under the rays of light, the spherical objects somewhat have a life of their own. I was sure anyone who dared look at them directly would be pulled into a whirlpool...so mesmerizing and captivating. I have never reached a s****l peak but maybe it feels like this...the hell!
The next attraction was his muscular physique under the perfectly tailored suit. Women would definitely be excited to stay in bed with him every night. I swallowed hard.
In my thoughts, Hep! Hep! Hep! Savannah, what are you thinking? Instantly, sweat formed in my entire body out of extreme awkwardness.
Gosh! I’m on fire. Why did I have those nasty and naughty thoughts?
Now, reality check, I, therefore, accept the role this irresistible man would play in my life.
I was married to the handsome, six-foot-tall nobleman. I should call him... My husband.
Landon Spencer, a 35-year-old brilliant Senator. I was married to someone I only know by his name and political brilliance. I know nothing else about him. But should I worry about not knowing anything when he’s right beside me looking like a yummy piece of steak? Gosh! I’m so naughty!
My smile was sweet when we faced the guests, over three hundred of them. Everywhere there were camera clicks. My role was to be the beaming and glowing bride deeply in love with my husband. I must admit it was not hard to do, especially when I was next to a sexy and gorgeous man. His strong arms were encircled in my slender waist as we circulate among the guests. Next to him, I'm a proud woman.
And by the way, our marriage was not fake. It was legitimate, properly done in accordance with the law. I am the legal wife of Landon Spencer, a political genius, and he would be running for President, not as a company president but the President of our beloved KT country.
Suddenly we heard...
"Congratulations!" The guest cheered almost in unison.
Handshakes, kisses, and hugs everywhere.
Please just play the scene in your mind...no need to elaborate on this because it's typical and predictable. Imagine real-life weddings or wedding scenes in movies or films...it was the same.
Let us end here, the details of the wedding and let me share about me and Landon...
Why was I married to this adorable creature?
Well, we agreed to be partners in saving the world. Oh, wait! That was too ambitious. I would downgrade a little, here goes...We're partners in protecting our country, the KT Country, home to about 100 million people situated in the middle of the Asian continent. It’s a progressive country, nonetheless, there was still so much room for improvement. It was Landon's ultimate goal in life, and I'm willing to support him all the way. Together, we would do something unimaginable and inexplicable for KT people, we’re destined for this.
Who am I?
My name is Savannah Villegas, "Sav" for short, an IT Engineer and a System Architect-- an expert on systems design and programming. Computer codes and system flow charts were my daily companion. My work might be boring to some people, but I enjoyed this work so much. Information Technology has been my world since I graduated from a top university seven years ago. I'm 28 years old—single since birth, and a little nerdy.
My 5'2" height was the standard height of women in my country. Although my friends often praised me saying, I'm attractive and sexy (ehem), I never paid attention to them.
Attractiveness, sexiness, and gorgeousness were not a requirement in my line of work. We wouldn't dress up to impress. The more casual our clothes were..., the better.
Our kind wouldn't attend events and parties more often, and our work life was long and tiresome. We work until unholy hours if necessary or we never sleep for days. “Bring that freaking coffee here ASAP” those were familiar words coming from my associates every single freaking day we have time-sensitive projects.
I'm quite ordinary and not even a good dresser. I didn’t wear makeup every day since I spent long hours facing a computer. Makeup would melt under constant exposure to computer radiation.
Needless to say, I'm just a simple lady...BUT witty. I wouldn't survive in my line of work if something was wrong with my brain.
Now, let's talk more about the handsome Senator by my side...
We met six months ago. My company offered Information Technology software for the government. Senator Landon was the head of the screening committee. He listened to our presentation intently. He was quite pleased, but he wanted more from what was on the table. The senator was well informed of the technology landscape, and he wanted a more significant project than what we offered.
During the meeting, I looked at him and remarked, "Sir, our company is capable of doing other programs as long as the requirements are well defined. We can design any program for the government based on specification," refusing to surrender easily. I was a little disappointed in knowing we wouldn't close the deal despite the preparations we made.
Landon nodded and said, "Alright, expect a call from us, Ms. Villegas. I will tell you what I really want." The voice of Senator Landon was icy cold. I must admit he was intimidating during our first meeting. His scorching hot stare rendered my staff speechless, but not me.
His gaze signified NO or STOP, in capital or bold letters. He might be creepy when angry, I murmured. I remembered it sent chills down my spine but shook it off.
Surprisingly, the senator's word was like a vow. We received a call from his office two weeks later, and his assistant set the appointment in a six-star hotel dining area. I came with my assistant and friend Ynna. Senator Landon was inside the dining area ahead of us with his assistant.
"Take a seat, Ms. Villegas," he said coldly.
"Alright, sir," I replied demurely.
He remained the intimidating man I saw on our first meeting, but I noticed his gorgeousness and his mesmerizing eyes.
However, out of decency, I avoided staring at him. I just ran a few glances at him from time to time, especially when he was talking.
I avoided looking at him, not because I was interested in him but I was intrigued at his personality and the reputation we gathered about him.
But no matter how attractive he was, I was not interested in well-dressed, powerful, and intimidating men. I like men that could make me laugh.
When the waiter took our orders, he went straight to the purpose of the meeting.
"I'll be straightforward, I had you checked, and I am pleased with the result. I am familiar with the IT landscape and evolutions. However, right now, I have bigger considerations than technology. I intend to partner with someone in designing a program/system best suited for governments. I have had a system design in mind for quite some time, but I need someone I can trust.. to do it for me." He said it non-stop, but I understood every word he said, most especially the last five words..." to do it for me."
In short, the person he was looking for was...ME.
Then I replied...
"Alright, sir, how would you like me to work with you?" I was excited, BUT I wanted to learn more before I agreed to anything. It was a big plus that he's tech-savvy. It was easier for him to understand IT people's talk. We have a distinct language. We talk by codes or IT terms APP, ACL, RAM, and a lot more! Not everyone could understand us easily.
Then I heard his sexy voice again, "What I have in mind is an interesting program. However, it can be very dangerous if it falls into the hands of those with ill intent. It's not a secret that I am running for President. If I win- I would like this program implemented for the government." he said confidently.
I nodded, admiring his objective and intention to do something good for the country.
"I want you to cooperate with me and agree to become MY WIFE and do this program on the side," he said, looking at me intently, noting my reaction.
I was shocked and unable to reply immediately. In my thoughts...WAIT!.."His wife?"
As if he heard me, he said, "Consider it a contract marriage; it's for your protection. Marry me for the duration of my presidency. But it cannot be a fake marriage. My political opponents will discover it for sure and use it against me." The directness of the Senator was too much for me to handle.
And he spoke... as if what he said was so simple...marriage, a child's play? I couldn't believe what I heard.
To make sure I wasn't dreaming, I focused my eyes on him and read the expression on his face. To my dismay, his face was serious.
Suddenly, I couldn't breathe easily. "Me...his wife?... Unbelievable!"
I closed my eyes and opened it several times, but the result was still the same. "Freaking s**t it's actually real." but I dared not voice any of my thoughts.
Then, I heard him speak again, "What I will ask you to do can endanger your life. The way to protect you is to become my First Lady. Decide on it as soon as possible and let me know. We don't have much time." He paused as if waiting for me to say something.
When I remained silent, he said, "We should go now. I have another appointment in half an hour." He stood up without waiting for my answer, buttoned his coat gracefully, and strutted away from us.
I was wide-eyed, speechless and my jaw almost touched the ground.
Ynna called my name several times before I was back to reality.
What I heard blew my mind completely.
"I am going to be the next FIRST LADY...WTF?!"
Sen. LANDON SPENCER top-billed over his opponents for the presidency in all surveys.
In the next six months, he would likely be declared the new President.
I couldn't remember how I agreed to the proposition but...
Three months after that conversation... we’re married.
Therefore, I'm his partner and wife...Mrs. Savannah Villegas-Spencer.
