Emily was reviewing some contracts when Oliver knocked on her office’s door.
She looked up and a smile lit up her face. “Oliver, come in.”
Oliver saw the smile on her face and his heart began to beat faster for some unknown reason and he hesitantly entered her office. He wished she wouldn’t notice and she didn’t. He was going insane, he was sure. She was still the same Emily, nothing about had changed but his infatuation with her was becoming an obsession.
“Just checking up on you. How are you doing?” Oliver asked, pretending he was bored.
“Reviewing some contracts. You want to have a look?” Emily pointed to the other files and Oliver shook his head.
“No, I already have my hands full. I came here to tell you that Eleanor and Rickard are expecting all of us at dinner today. I hope you’re free tonight,” Oliver asked, remembering what he came here for.
Emily bit her lip and thought for a while, checking her schedule.
Oliver didn’t miss the little movement and gulped. He averted his eyes and began to look around to distract himself.
“I am in, I have nothing to do tonight,” Emily said and smiled at him.
At that moment, as she smiled up at him, he wanted nothing more than to drag her to stand in front of him and kiss her hard. So passionately that she would forget everything else around her.
“So can I come with you when you leave?” Emily asked reluctantly, interrupting his thoughts, and Oliver nodded.
“Yeah, why not.”
Yeah, why not. Oliver thought. He was just risking his sanity by bringing her with him.
After the office hours were over, Oliver wound up his work and was about to leave when he remembered that he was giving a ride to Emily. He turned around to call her and saw her standing, waiting for him.
“I knew you would forget and leave me behind, so I came here before you,” Emily said and pushed the lift’s button, which opened instantly.
Oliver smirked. “You know me too well.”
“Because I am your best friend,” Emily said with a smile.
Five minutes later, they were seated inside his car in the parking lot. Oliver started the engine and drove away. It was on the way that Emily noticed him driving faster than usual.
“Why are you in such a hurry, Oliver?” Emily screamed as he zoomed past another car and her eyes widened like saucers.
“Oliver, please slow down. You’re scaring me,” she cried, and glanced at Oliver, who was gritting his jaw.
What had gotten into him, all of a sudden? Emily thought and prayed quietly to herself for their safety.
When they reached the Hansen’s mansion, Emily wasted no time in getting out of the car and running as far away from it as she could.
“I am not riding with you ever again,” Emily yelled at her back, seeing that Oliver was following her.
He chuckled and said, “Then who’s going to drop you home tonight?”
Emily’s eyes widened and she whipped her head to look at him. “Not you.”
“I will call a cab,” she said and strutted inside.
Oliver quietly stared at her back and thanked God that she was unaware. She had no idea how badly Oliver wanted to pull the car to the curb and pull her into his lap, then kiss the hell out of her. She had no idea the effect she had on him. Oh, she was blissfully unaware.

Emily walked inside the living room and saw Eleanor. She squealed in delight and ran up to her to hug her. She engulfed Eleanor in a tight hug.
“So, how’s the bride doing?” Emily asked and Eleanor grinned.
“Oh, she’s too busy looking after her son to do anything else,” Eleanor said with a tired face.
“Oh, don’t worry. It will all be fine. I can help you with the preparations.” Emily said, but Eleanor shook her head.
“No, you already organized my baby shower and that surprise party. You just enjoy this time… And don’t forget the appointment we have for the bridesmaid dresses.”
Emily’s eyebrows shot up and she grinned. “Oh, my life depends on it. I won’t forget it, don’t worry.”
Eleanor called one of the servants and requested to bring coffee for both of them. Emily settled back on the couch lazily and yawned.
“Have you finalized your dress yet?” Emily asked in between the yawns.
Eleanor nodded with a smirk and took her mobile phone, then after a few taps showed it to Emily. Seeing the beautiful dress, Emily gasped.
“It’s gorgeous, Eleanor, “ Emily said with a smile. She stared at the dress and wondered when would be the day when she would get to choose her own bridal dress. She couldn’t wait for it, but as she thought, she realized there was no chance of her getting married soon. It would probably be years before she married.
Noticing Emily zoning out, Eleanor asked, “You look tired. Is the work going well?”
Emily nodded, running a hand through her hair and slumped back on the couch. “Yeah, work is taking a toll on me.”
“Oh, Emily. What are you going to do when Oliver leaves? The workload might be doubled for a while.”
Hearing Eleanor, Emily frowned and then slowly sat up. “Well, he’s not going to leave soon. So there’s nothing to worry about for now.”
Eleanor chuckled. “He’s leaving soon, trust me.”
Emily’s face fell and she sat straighter, blinking at Eleanor. “What do you mean? Is he really leaving my company?”
Eleanor realized that Emily was getting upset about the news and bit her lip.
“I am sorry, you shouldn’t have known it this way. But yes, Dad’s handing over one of his businesses. He asked me to prepare the paperwork and that’s how I know. I assumed you would know as well,” Eleanor said and winced when Emily kept staring at her in disbelief.
“I had no idea of this… Does Oliver know?’ Emily asked.
Eleanor blinked and tried to avoid Emily’s searching gaze. But Emily’s frown deepened.
“He knows, right? And I am the only one who’s left in the dark, even though it’s my company he’s leaving,” Emily said in irritation. She shook her head and looked around.
Just a while ago, she was in his car with him and yet he hadn’t bothered to utter a single word about it to her. What a hypocrite! Emily thought and stood up taking her bag.
Eleanor’s eyes widened and she stood up as well. “ Emily, calm down. They are going to tell you. There must be a reason for them to not tell you sooner.”
“I am not upset with anyone else, just Oliver. He should’ve told me,” Emily said in anger.
“I am sorry, Eleanor. I got to go. And thank you for telling me the truth,” Emily said as she began to leave.
Eleanor sighed in defeat. She agreed with Emily that Oliver should’ve told her about him leaving her company and it would’ve been better if Emily had found this out from Oliver rather than anyone else.

Emily entered her home and slammed the main door shut. She was furious with Oliver. How dare he plan to leave and then leave her in the dark? If he knew that Bernard Hansen was appointing him in his company, why didn’t he tell Emily about that?
It wasn’t only against company rules, but he betrayed their friendship as well. Was he planning on quitting quietly? But why? Emily wasn’t that terrible a boss.
She picked up her phone to message him about how upset she was with him, but then she saw her father coming out of the library.
“Where’s mom?” Emily asked and her father looked up.
“She left for a party,” he said, and then continued to be engrossed in his mobile phone.
It was then her anger multiplied. He had a smile on his face as he stared at his phone. Seeing him, Emily snatched his phone, making him look up at her in shock.
“Emily? What are you doing? Give me back my phone,” Her father said, but Emily continued to glare at him.
“Is it that w***e you’re messaging?” Emily asked and her father’s eyes widened.
“Mind your tongue, Emily. You’re talking to your father,” he bellowed.
Emily was unfazed by his attitude and she continued to hold his phone instead of giving it back to him. She had seen his anger many times. It was a tactic to suppress her questioning when she knew the truth about him. But it wasn’t going to work anymore. She wouldn’t be afraid of these tactics.
“I know who I am talking to. A liar, a cheater, an adulterer,” Emily stated, and saw her father’s eyes widening. He didn’t expect that from her.
“I saw you in Miami with a woman. Last time I saw you and confronted you, you said that was a mistake and it would never happen again. And now it has happened again just like the previous times,” Emily said, and her father just kept staring at her with displeasure.
“What are you going to do about that, huh?” He retorted and Emily’s anger intensified at his audacity.
“You have no remorse for what you’ve done. Do you even care about my mother, your wife whom you’ve been married to for the last 29 years?” Emily said.
“You wouldn’t be saying all that if your mother was home,” he replied.
“And I have half a mind to tell her everything,” Emily said, and realized that she actually couldn't tell her.
“You can, if you want to.” Her father said and left, snatching the phone from her hand as she continued to be lost in thought.
Seeing her mother heartbroken would break her into pieces. But this had to come to an end. Emily would have to do something about him.
