Chapter 15

Haven saw the serpent snarl at Isabel and Ray and quickly flew down to them. “Haven, get back to safety,” growled Ray, and the fairy shook her head. The guardian sighed and held his hand out to Isabel. “Come on. Up you go,” he said, pulling the injured girl to her feet. “Are you sure you’re alright?” Ray asked, and Isabel nodded. The Basilis slithered closer to them, and Ray, Isabel, and Haven looked up at the horrifying beast and then back at each other. “Ready or not, here it comes,” breathed the Fairy Guardian, and Isabel grabbed her whip. As the monster slithered closer, the serpent seemed to be only focused on the Earth Guardian, and as it stared at Ray, they locked eyes. The enormous snake stopped slithering and rose its large horned head. The Basilis roared at Ray, and the guardian threw out his arms. Ray began to pace and noticed that the beast only watched him. It seemed like the snake could care less about Isabel and Haven. Ray smirked at the monster and turned toward the girls. “Okay. You two find safety. It seems to be only interested in me,” the guardian whispered, and the fairy and girl nodded. The beast lowered its head and roared impatiently. Quickly, Isabel ran one way, and Haven flew in the opposite direction, but the Basilis kept its focus on the Guardian of Earth. As Isabel ran, she saw that the snake wasn’t paying attention to her, and she cracked her whip on its tail. The Basilis turned and snarled at Isabel. She ran as fast as possible, but the beast struck its head at her and smashed its face against the castle wall. Isabel laughed, running as the serpent pulled its head back. Surprisingly, the creature busted its face and eye and swung its head, screeching in pain. Ray chuckled, and the beast snapped its head towards him. The creature snarled and struck its head at Ray. Swiftly, he jumped to the side, and the snake smashed its face into the ground. The Basilis pulled its head back and cried angrily. Isabel cracked her whip at its tail again. The monster turned its large head toward her. Isabel thought it was about to strike again, so she was ready to run, but instead, the Basilis lifted its tail. The beast smacked the girl with such force that Isabel hit the castle wall hard and fell unconscious. “Izzy!” yelled Ray, and the Basilis turned toward him. Haven looked at the monster angrily and flew over the snake’s midsection. Ray watched in amazement as the fairy blew out a bright green fire and ignited the beast. The serpent snarled, turning toward the fairy, and with a quick swat of its tail, Haven smacked against one of the elemental boulders and lay there unmoving. Ray inhaled sharply and roared at the creature. The snake turned its head toward him, and Ray jumped onto one of the rocks, centering the powerful energy. Suddenly, the Basilis snapped its head forward and swallowed Ray with a gulp. Isabel had started to regain consciousness, and her eyes widened as she saw the snake swallow her friend. She tried to push herself upright, but her body disagreed, and tears filled her eyes. Isabel knew now that she was the one that had to complete their mission and rescue Dig and the others. Ray was gone. She looked at Haven and saw that she was unconscious on one of the elemental boulders. Frantically, Isabel began to sob, and the Basilis faced her as it snarled. She tried to push to her feet but fell back to the ground. She cried harder and crawled toward the wall. Isabel leaned against the rock and looked at the enormous snake, pulling her knife. “You want me? Well, I am not going out without a fight!” she said breathlessly, and the Basilis lowered its head in front of her. The beast growled, moving its head closer to Isabel, and suddenly it reared backward. The creature snarled, waving its head back and forth, and then it began attacking itself. Oddly, Isabel watched the monster and wondered why it was acting so strangely. Slowly, Haven opened her eyes and stared in horror. The monster was attacking itself. The fairy sat up and looked around, confused. Ray was gone, and she saw Isabel leaning against the wall, bloody and bruised. The Fairy Guardian got to her feet and staggered. Haven shook her head and stretched her wings. Everything felt okay, and she flew over to Isabel. She saw the girl move and sighed with relief. “Oh, good. You’re alive,” breathed the fairy, and Isabel looked at her. “Barely, but I am glad that you are okay too,” said the girl, and Haven nodded, smiling. “Where is Ray?” Isabel looked at the fairy sadly and began to sob. “I couldn’t save him. He’s gone!” she cried. Suddenly, the snake screeched and raised its head to the sky. Isabel and Haven looked at the Basilis and watched its head shake. Before the girl could breathe a word, the beast exploded, and blood, guts, and charred skin sprayed the courtyard. “Uh! Yuck!” Isabel cried as a bloody clump of snake meat hit her in the face. “That’s disgusting!” gagged Haven, covered in muck. “You should be careful what you eat!” snarled Ray, and Isabel and Haven looked at him with wide eyes. “You’re alive!” stammered Isabel, and Ray nodded as he grinned. “Why yes, yes I am!” Ray snickered, walking over to them. “Are you guys all right?” Isabel and Haven looked at him. They were covered in snake gore and looked miserable. “My arm is broken,” said Isabel, wincing. Ray smiled, looking at her with care and making a stream of water appear. “Drink up!” he chimed, and Haven and Isabel looked at the guardian gratefully. The Fairy Guardian, Isabel, and Ray drank from the stream, and Isabel sighed in relief as her body began to heal. The girl felt a quick sharp pain in her arm, and then the pain stopped. Her arm had healed, and she blew out a deep breath. Haven also felt better as her head healed and felt like new again. “Thank you,” breathed Isabel, and Haven nodded. Ray chuckled, sticking his hand out to Isabel, and she grabbed it. He pulled her up, and she wrapped her arms around him. “Any time,” Ray breathed, hugging Isabel back. To Ray’s surprise, she didn’t let go but hugged him tighter. Softly, he laughed. “You’re okay,” he breathed and pulled away from her. Isabel looked at him for a moment and then shook her head. “Come on, let’s go get Dig and the others,” stated Ray, and Isabel and Haven smiled and nodded. They looked around to ensure there wasn’t any danger and then walked into the castle. Delete Created with Sketch. Belhazur stood on the second-story balcony and looked out into the Underworld Realm. The hazy red sky and scorching heat reminded him of the Realm of Chaos. He hated his home realm. The only difference between the two places was that the demon king had his powers, and in that wretched realm, he didn’t. The king of Chaos heavily sighed and took a sip of his drink. When he saw Catalina kiss Damian, he thought it looked like it was more than a heartbreak spell. They kissed each other like they wanted each other. The demon king shuddered at the thought and decided he would keep an eye on the two. Belhazur turned from the view and suddenly felt a sharp pain in his chest. The glass fell from his hand and shattered on the patio as he fell to his knees. The sound of the glass breaking woke Catalina, and she looked at the demon king in alarm. She saw that he was in pain and on his knees and looked at him oddly. The woman had never seen the king of Chaos in pain before. “What’s wrong?” she asked, and Belhazur raised his head, looking at her. “I’m not sure. I think I need to lay down,” he breathed and felt weaker. He didn’t ask her for help, so Catalina put her head back on the pillow, and the demon king crawled over to the other side of the bed. He climbed into bed next to the demon woman and sighed painfully. Belhazur didn’t understand. He had never felt pain like that before. The demon king stared at the ceiling as Catalina drifted back to sleep. Delete Created with Sketch. Ray, Haven, and Isabel cautiously walked through the eerie quiet castle, which was still empty. The Earth Guardian thought there would be at least one creature guarding the castle, but there wasn’t. “Now, I agree with you, Haven. This place is creepy,” whispered Isabel, walking to the prison door, and Ray agreed. Ray stopped at pointed. “Look!” he said. Isabel and Haven looked to where he pointed and gasped. The lights above the door glowed brightly and green. Isabel grinned at Ray, and the fairy smiled. The Earth Guardian opened the door, and they walked inside. “Ray! Haven! Isabel!” Dig exclaimed and smiled at them. “You guys did it!” The Spirit Guardian’s smile faded, noticing they were covered in blood and muck. He looked at Ray, Haven, and Isabel with concern. “Are you guys alright?” he asked. Haven fluttered over to the man and smiled. “Yes. Nothing a good bath can’t take care of,” she chimed, and Dig looked at the fairy in question. “What is that stuff?” Ray and Isabel exchanged looks and laughed. “Ray was eaten by the Basilis, and it was about to eat me when he blew the monster up from the inside,” explained Isabel, and Ray shrugged his shoulders, nodding. Dig stared in awe for a moment, and the rest of the captives were silent. Ray looked at his Spirit Guardian and gave him a knowing look. “Had to do what was necessary,” Ray stated, and Dig swallowed hard. “Now, who’s ready to get out of here?” “Me! All of us!” the prisoners said in unison, and the Earth Guardian laughed. “Alright!” chimed Isabel and flipped the three switches. Loud metal clanking noises echoed through the tunnels, and the cell gates slowly opened. Dig, Jared, and the others cautiously walked out of their cells and looked at each other wide-eyed. They couldn’t believe, after being trapped down there for centuries, they were now free. Happily, everyone cheered and hugged each other. Dig and his brother walked up to Ray and hugged the Earth Guardian. “You did it, my boy. You have saved our world and freed the forgotten,” exclaimed the Spirit Guardian, and Ray smiled, clapping him on the back. Isabel and Haven looked at each other and then back at Ray. Before Isabel could say a word, Ray beat her to the punch. “Actually, it wasn’t just me. I had help,” Ray stated, gesturing to Haven and Isabel. The girls smiled at him, and Ray nodded. Dig looked at the girls and bowed his head. “My apologies. You three have saved us all!” “So, you’re the new Earth Guardian, eh?” asked Jared, looking Ray over, and Dig clapped his brother on the back. “Ray, this is my brother Jared,” the Spirit Guardian introduced, and Ray nodded, shaking Jared’s hand. “Good to meet you, and yes, I am the new guardian.” “Nice to meet you too,” Jared laughed, and Ray grinned. “What should we do now?” asked Haven, sitting on Ray’s shoulder, and Dig looked at the Fairy Guardian thoughtfully. “It’s time to gather all the survivors and let them know that the Basilis has been defeated. We can work together to clear out any remaining Duggers. Tomorrow, we will have a celebration for our heroes,” announced Dig, and everyone cheered. Delete Created with Sketch. After the survivors had cleared out the rest of the Duggers and cleaned the tows square for the celebration, the Diggers turned in for the night. After dinner, Dig gave ray a bedroom in the castle to rest and relax. The room had a private bathroom like the one he had back home, and he sighed, feeling homesick. Ray closed the door and took a hot shower. He couldn’t wait to take a shower without having the suit on. The hot water soothed his tender muscles, and he blew a breath. Finally, it was over. Dig and the others are safe, the Earth World Realm is secure, and Ray can go back home. The Earth Guardian couldn’t wait to hold his sweet Riah in his arms again and see his cousin and Ashta. The blood and muck washed down the drain, and he shut the water off. Ray dried off, threw the towel on the rack, and walked into the bedroom. He made himself comfortable on the soft bed and soon drifted off to sleep, dreaming of his beautiful Water Guardian.
