CHAPTER 6 —   I yawned as I got from the bed, I felt so tired, I just want sleep all day and do nothing but I know I can't, it's six o'clock in the morning and it's Monday.  After I prepare my things I saw dad and mom, Dysthe and Nathan is not around?  "Good morning, mom, dad," I said and kissed them on cheeks. I sat down and look at my mom, she smiled at me.  "Morning," she said, I pouted and look around, where's Nathan and Dysthe? "Ahm, where's the two?" I asked politely.  I look at dad when he dropped his utensil and look at me intently like I did something, I swallowed hard as fear consumed me.  What did I do? "What time did you went home," dad asked plainly. I pursed my lips, "Before twelve, dad," I replied.  "You're with Dysthe?"  I exhaled deeply as I make myself calm, I don't know what to say, I'm not really used at lying.  "Let your daughter eat quiescently, Jonathan," Mom said, she's looking at dad with irritation. "I'm just asking, Danica." dad said emphatically. I bit my lips as I felt the tension, "You're scaring her, can you stop being so stiff to your daughters!" mom exclaimed, I jumped a little because of a sudden outburst.  Dad pursed his lips as he stared at mom, "Are we gonna fight about this again? I already told you that this is my way of disciplining our children," dad said calmly.  I look at mom when she scoffed, she looks so tired, "Can you just listen to me at once? I'm their mother, I know what to do with my daughters, so just this once, leave it to me," mom said, she closed her eyes as her voice shaken.  "Mom..." I mumbled.  I look at dad when he stood up, "Stop it, we already talked about this. I thought it was settled, Danica." he said.  "It was never settled, you just thought it was but I never said it was okay," mommy said as she looks at dad.  I can see the way mom looks at him, it looks so lifeless and wearied, mommy stood up and look at dad with her solemn eyes.  "Let's do it, Jonathan. Let's file a divorce," mommy said and I gasped, I look at her in horror, what? I turn to dad to see any reaction but he's showing his usual cold face, no reaction shown in his face, he was looking blankly at mom.  "If that's what you want then fine," dad said and I felt my hand weakened.  My eyes watered as I look at dad, he won't stop mom? It just it? I bit my lips as I stare at my mom, she's not crying, she just smiled at dad and nod.  "Okay, let's do it as soon as possible," she said and left, I was stunned at my seat, I felt my hand shuddered.  I moved my gaze to dad, when his eyes darted on mine I immediately look down, I don't want to see him, those cold eyes. I bit my lips as I look down.  "Fix yourself, don't go to school looking like that," he said and walked.  "Dad..." I whispered but I know he heard it, he stopped and look at me.  "Did you even love mom?" I asked slowly as I felt my heart tightened.   A second passed but he didn't answer so I look at him, he's looking at me flatly, "We won't last for thirty years of marriage if I don't," he said.  "But... why are you— " "There's a lot of things that you can't understand, don't think about this and focus on your study, aim for the highest," he said and walked away.  I was left alone in the kitchen, I look at Manang Klerz when she went in, she looks at me with worry, I wiped my tears and smiled at her.  "Manang," I said and stood up, I lost my appetite.  "Are you okay, Demetra?" she asked, I shook my head.  "No, Manang Klerz. I don't know what to feel," I said as I held my chest. It shocked me, I know dad and mom's been fighting but I didn't know that it's worst as this.  What's happening to them? I know dad is not sweet towards mom but they're just fine, what happened? I swallowed hardly as I wiped my tears, I need to go, I still have a class. I composed myself and exhaled deeply.  Manang went to my side and hugged me, "I just hope everything will be fine as it is," she whispered to me.  "I hope so, Manang," I said.  After that I went to my car and drive away, I made sure that I look fine. I put a little lip tint in my lips and a mascara so they wouldn't notice the changes in my eyes, it's kinda swollen. I saw Kyla and Piloer standing beside their car as I step out in my car, we're here in the parking lot. I smiled at them.  "Hey, did I make you wait?" I asked. Piloer shook her head, she look like messed, I laughed at her, "Hangover?" she nods at me.  "Damn, I didn't know that it will hurt like this," she said.  I tapped her shoulder, "Just drink cold water, it can reduce the headache," I said.  I turn to Kyla, she's looking at me intently, "What?" I asked. Her forehead wrinkle, "Let's talk later," she said as she stare at my face, I bit my lips and nods at her.  Kyla is one of those person who knows me, except from my mom and Dysthe, they noticed everything that I do.  I smiled at her, but she didn't smile back, I sighed, "I'm fine," I said to her.  She tsked, "Don't try to give that kind of s**t, Demetra." she said emphatically.  I bit my lips, "I'm sorry," I whispered.  She shook her head and turn at Piloer, "Just go straight in your classroom, so you can rest. We'll just follow," Kyla said to her. Piloer nods and smiled at us, "Okay be there at twenty minutes, Dems." she said, I nods at her.  We went inside her car, I was seating on the front seat, I sighed and look at her, my smile dropped as I stare at her, I tried to stop my tears but it just fell.  "Hey," she whispered and held my hand, "What happened?"  I shrugged and pursed my lips, "I don't know too, I don't what's happening. I'm so shocked, I can't even comprehend it properly, I just can't," She sighed and hugged me, "Shh, just cry," she said as she caressed my back.  "My parents wants a divorce..." I whispered to her.  I felt her scoffed, "What?" she asked while her widened in shock.  I smiled at her sadly, "I hope I'm just dreaming, I don't know, Kyla," I said.  She swallowed hard, "Are you sure? Damn, I don't know what to say," she said as she looks at me.  "I was just stunned when I heard it, my tears just fell, I don't know. Why? Dad didn't even stop mom, he didn't even do anything, and that what hurts the most,  I saw mom smiling but I know deep inside... she's broken, she loves dad so much," my voice cracked as I uttered it.  "He didn't do anything? Maybe, your dad wants to talk about it in private," she said.  I shook my head, "No, if you'll just see his reaction a while ago, he's not affected, he didn't show any reaction nor sadness, even just a little bit," I can taste the bitterness in my mouth as I remember what happened a while ago.  "I don't know anymore, Kyla. I'm hurt but every time that I will think about mom, the pain intensified, I can't imagine how she feels right now, I want to decipher dad, but I can't especially when I'm thinking about mom," I rant to her.  I wiped my tears and smiled, "It made me doubt dad's love for my mother, if she loves her then why? Why he would easily let go, why he would let her? I never see him being sweet towards mom, not even once, Kyla," I used my hands to cover my hand.  "Whenever he looks at mom, it just a usual stare that he gave to everyone, nothing special. Is that love supposed to work that way? There's no affection, no spark, and no connection, it has nothing that I can say that he's in love with her,"  "Dems..." I sighed and look at her.  I wiped my tears and and exhaled deeply, I look at the mirror and fixed my make up.  "Dad told me that I shouldn't go in school looking like this," I said.  I glanced at Kyla, she's looking at with her soft eyes, "Don't worry, I'll be fine, " I uttered to give her an assurance.  "After class I'll go in your house, l know you need some to talk to," she said, I stared at her and shook my head.  "I don't know what to do without you," I said as I look at her with so gratefulness.  She beamed at me, "I would gladly say the same thing, Dems. For now, let's just go in our class," she muttered, I nod at her.  We step out of the car, we separated our ways and walked to our buildings, I was just quiet the whole time, Piloer fell asleep but it wasn't obvious.  I smiled when the class ended and she's still sleeping, she's just look down at her notes as if she's reading so our professor didn't noticed.  I tapped her lightly, "Piloer, it's our break time," I whispered to her, she slightly open her eyes and frowned.  "My head hurts," she said and held her temple.  "You need to eat and drink so you can take a medicine to reduce the aching of your head and hangover," I told her, I held her arm as she stood up, she pouted at me.  "I didn't know that it has an effect like this," she murmured, I chuckled at her.  "Now you know, next time don't drink too much," I said, we went outside the room and head to the cafeteria.  My directly darted on our table, Kyla is already there but she's with someone.  "Who's that?" Piloer asked.  I shrugged, "I can't see her face, let's go near to them so we can find out," I uttered to her jokingly.  As we went closer, I soon to realized who it is, Liesandra? "Hey," I said as we stopped in front of the table, I look at Kyla to asked but she's just shook her head.  "I invited her here, she looks so lonely," Kyla said plainly.  I sat beside Kyla while Piloer sat beside Liesandra, "What's your name?" Piloer asked to Liesandra.  Liesandra smiled lightly, "Liesandra," she said but it's not jolly as before. She also looks different right now, she seems sleepless for nights because of her eye bags.  "You look like you haven't sleep for a week," Piloer said without hesitation. Kyla hissed, "Piloer, your mouth," "I'm just saying the truth, she looks like a zombie, she needs to rest," Piloer said as she stared at her.  "I'm sorry for that—" "No, its fine. I really need to rest," she said in a low voice.  "Are you okay?" I asked worriedly.  She nods her head, "Of course," she said and sighed, she's just eating silently. I was just staring at her when Piloer spoke.  "Not being okay is fine, you don't have to say you that you are when it's obvious that you're not," she said as she looks at Liesandra.  "Piloer enough, let her do and say whatever she wants," Kyla said and widened her eyes to Piloer.  "I'm just saying so she can reduce the heaviness in her heart, Kyla. Sometimes, people tend to forget that it's okay not to be okay, I'm just reminding her, keeping it inside will make it more painful," she said and look in her food again.  I sighed and look at Liesandra, "You can share if you want, but if you're not comfortable then it's fine," I said.  She staring at Piloer then turn to me, "I don't know how," she whispered, I can hear the pain in her voice. My lips parted as I look at her, she seems afraid to open up.  Kyla gasped, "What do you mean? You're not used at opening to someone? If that's so, then just call your best friend so you can—" "I don't one," she said and look down.  "What?" Piloer asked. Liesandra shrugged, "No one wants to be friend with me because of my sister, I'm used to it. They keep on saying that I'm just like my s-sister," she uttered, her voice shuddered as she said those.  I swallowed hard, "Someone from your childhood?" I asked.  "I'm a home school, I'm not allowed to go outside the house so I wasn't able to have a friends," Liesandra said.  I pursed my lips to cover up my shock, why would they do that? "But you're sister... she's not a home school," Kyla asked, we've known Liemira for almost a decade.  "She's the favorite child, she get what she wants." she said.  "What happened to you, you're almost gone for a week," I asked.  She looks at me and smiled genuinely, "I'm grounded, you've noticed my absence?" she said in a merrily voice.  "Yes... you're happy about it?" I asked with a confused face.  She nods at me, "At least for the first time... someone noticed it, just this once," she said and beamed at me.  I gasped at what she said, "Liesandra..." I whispered, she's smiling at me but I can see desolation in her eyes.  "Please, drop that smile, I hate it," Piloer said as she clenched her jaw.  Liesandra glanced at her, "I'm sorry—" "Stop smiling when you don't want to, don't force yourself, if you want then cry, stop pretending to be strong because that's making you weak,"  Kyla link her lips, "You can open to us if you need someone to talk to, no one will know about, you can trust and if you don't, then please, tell it to someone who can make you feel at ease,"  Liesandra scoffed as her tears fell, she immediately look down and wiped it, "I'm sorry, I was just so emotional... because I don't have that someone," she said and chortled painfully.  "Liesandra..." I whispered as her shoulder moves up and down, she's crying.  "I'll be fine, I'm sure I will be, not now but soon," she said as she glanced at me, I felt my self numb as she said those words while staring at me.  Not now... but soon.  I said that a while ago, I look away as realization hits me.  "Please call me, us, if you need someone to talk to," I said, it hurts to be in a situation where pain is always visible... but it feels so agonizing to know that you're alone in that battle.  I look at the waiter when she served the food in our table, "In million of pain, the gaiety will be waiting at the end," the girl said and smiled at us.  I beamed at her before she walked away.  We were just silently eating when my phone rang, I look at the caller, it's Dysthe.  :Hello, Dysthe?  I moved my phone a little when I heard loud noises, where is she again? It's just one o'clock in the afternoon.  [Dems! Mom said that she'll going to fetch us, can you tell that I'm going with my friend's house?!]  I closed my eyes tightly. :Where are you, Dysthe? Don't you have a class? I pursed my lips to hold my annoyance, what's happening to her! [I'm here in AFB, this is the last, Dems! Please, just this once... promise, I will focus on my studies after this!] :This is the last, Dysthe. Please, patch up yourself.  I said and ended the call, I don't want to rude to her but she's acting differently and I don't like it.  Is it because of that guy? He's not really good for her, I have to do something about if she'll continue being like this.  "Are you alright, Dems?" I glanced at Kyla and nod.  "Yes, I'm fine. I just talked to... Dysthe," I said and sighed heavily. "Any problem?" she asked, I shook my head, "No, just a little favor," I said.  "I still haven't see your twin sister," I look at Piloer when she said that.  "Her building is five blocks away here, she's busy too," I uttered to her.  She smiled, "What does she look like? Are you guys look like each other?" she asked.  I shook my head, "We're not look a like, Dysthe has a rough figure, she look sophisticated and classy, while me, I have a soft figure," I said. "You look like an angel," Liesandra said, I smiled at her.  "Thank you. I inherit from my mother," I uttered to her.  "I heard she's... you know," Piloer said.  I chuckled at her, "That she's a b***h? She's not. She's a good person when you get to know her,"  She nods at me, "She just really look like that," Piloer said. I nod at her, Dysthe seems to be snob and b***h because of her poker face, she's fierce when she's not smiling.  I glanced at Liesandra when she looks at her watch, "I think I need to go, I still have a class," she said and stood up.  "Take care," I said, she bid her goodbye to us.  "What time is it?" Piloer asked.  I took a glimpse to my watch, "It's already fifteen o'clock," I said.  "She stood up, "I think we need to go too," she said, I nod at her and turn to Kyla.  "How about you? Your class is two o'clock right? You're just stay here?" I asked.  She shrugged, "Limane and Hurmen will come over here," she uttered, I nod at her.  "Okay, we'll go now," I said.  While walking my phone rang, Piloer looks at me, "You can go first," I told her.  She nods, "Okay, don't be late," she muttered.  I went to the side of corridor to answer my phone, it's the unknown number or should I say Boone. I exhaled deeply before I answered it, I remind myself not to be rude.  :Hello? Do you need something? I asked plainly.  [Hmm,]  I frowned at what he response.  :Can you tell me what do you need? I still have a classes to attend.  [Your sister is here, would you fetch her,]  :No. I won't, she have her car, she can go home in her own. [You would her drive in her drunk state, hmm,] My lips parted, what the f**k?  :What the hell? Then take her home, you're her boyfriend after all. She's your responsibility, so bring her home safely. I can help but to sound annoyed at him, he's the reason why she's there! [I'm not her—] :Make sure  that my sister is safe, i***t.  I ended the call immediately, tss, what an asshole. I head to our classroom and sat to my seat, Piloer glanced at me, "Dysthe?" she asked.  "Just someone I know," I said.  "Do you know how to paint?" I nods at her, "Yes, you?" I replied.  "Yap," she said and grinned. Our professor came and we just listen, after the class dismissal I went to the parking with Piloer.  "Oh, Dizen is here," Piloer said as she looks at somewhere, I followed her gaze, it's Kyla car but she's with Dizen.   Piloer ran towards them, I chuckled at her, she's still have a hangover, huh.  "You don't have a hangover?" Piloer asked while she's staring at Dizen.  "I'm not you, you're a weaklings," he told her jokingly, Piloer strikes his chest and rolled her eyes on him. "I'm just joking, Piloer," Dizen said and chuckled.  "Dems, I saw Auntie Danica's car but I'm not sure if that's her," Kyla said as she went to my side.  I nods at her, "That's mom, where did you saw it?" I asked.  We both look at the car that park beside Kyla, "Mom," I said.  She went out and smiled at me, "Let's go, where's Dysthe?" she asked, I pursed my lips and shook my head to her, mom didn't drop her smile, she just nod.  "Let's go," she said, her gaze moved to Kyla then Piloer, last to Dizen. "You're with your friends, hmm?" she asked.  "Auntie," Kyla said merrily and walked towards mom, she hugged her and mom chuckled and did the same too.  "You're becoming more sexier every time I see you," mom complimented to her, Kyla beamed widely.  "Of course, Auntie. I'm a future model, and Demetra will be my designer," she said proudly, Mom chortled, "I love to see that," she said.  "Can I come with your house, Auntie?" Kyla asked, oh, I forgot about that, she said that she's coming to me after class.  Mom nods at her, "You're always welcome in our house, Kyla. By the way, where's Hexon?" mommy asked.  Kyla pouted and look at me, I sighed and stare at mom, "He's busy, Mom. We rarely see each other this past few months," I said.  "Hmm, tell him I miss him so he should come in our house, and who's this two?" Mom asked while looking at Piloer and Dizen.  Kyla smiled, "They are my childhood friends, Auntie. The girl named is Piloer while the man beside her is Dizen, Hexon's cousin."  Mom nods, she smiled at them, "Nice to meet you, I'm Danica Homer, Demetra's mother," she said,  Piloer beamed at her shyly, "Nice to meet you, Ma'am," Piloer said.  "Just call me Auntie Danica or just Auntie," she said.  Mom turns to Dizen, "Good afternoon, Auntie. I'm Dizen Beoas," he said and smiled at her.  "Hmm, no doubt that you're Hexon's cousin, you're looks say it all," mom said, Kyla and Piloer groaned at what mom said.  I chucked at them, "Auntie, stop praising Hexon and Dizen, iw," Kyla said while frowning.  "Stop complaining, Kyla," Dizen said and grinned playfully, mom chuckled while looking at Dizen.  "I like you, you have a good humor," mommy said.  "Thank you, Auntie. You can adapt me if you want," he said and winked.  "What the hell, Dizen," Piloer said and make a face.  "Mom, don't mind them, let's go," I said as I went to her.  She kissed my forehead, "They're fun to be with," she said meaningfully, I pursed my lips and sighed.  "I know, mom," I relied to her.  She waved at them before she went inside the car,  I was about to step inside when I suddenly remember my car.  I knock at mom's window, "What about my car?" I asked.  "Mang Astro already brought it home," mom said, I nod at her.  I glanced at Piloer and Dizen, "We'll go now, take care," I said and smiled to them. Kyla already went in the backseat of our car, and Piloer went to her car and drove away, she waved at me before she left.  I look at Dizen, he's leaning on his car, "You're waiting for someone?" I asked.  He shook his head and smiled at me, my lips parted at what he did, he has a beautiful smile.  "Nah, I'll just wait for you to leave," he said.  "Oh, okay," I said and shook my head.  I chuckled at him before I went inside the car. I saw him stepping in his car as mom drove away. "You like him?" I look at mom confusingly. "What, mom?" I asked.  Kyla chuckled, "Why, Auntie? Do you like Dizen for her, hmm?" Kyla asked playfully.  I glared at her, "Shut up, Kyla." I said.  "He looks like a good man, he has a humor, too, why not?" mom said.  I frowned, "No, mom. Dizen is Kyla's ex—" "Ex-crush, Dems. And remember, that was long time ago, we were eight years old that time and... I don't mind," Kyla said and grinned.  Mom chuckled, "He rejected you?" mom asked as she glanced at Kyla in the mirror.  "Yes, Auntie. Imagine, I'm so cute when I was kid and he just rejected me," Kyla said and pouted.  Mommy and I laughed, "You're so witty, Kyla," mom said and it made Kyla frowned even more.  "Auntie!" she exclaimed and cross her arm over her chest.  "Stop sulking, you've grown so gorgeous so for sure he regrets it," mom said.  Kyla make a face, "No thanks, Auntie. You can ship him to Demetra," she said and smiled widely.  "I like him but I still like Hexon more," mom said.  I sighed, "Mom, he's just my friend, more likely a brother," I said.  Mom shrugged, "Well, I want a man like him. I want someone best for my daughter, someone who can make you laugh and love you at you worst," mom said.  — ishanndns  Look into someone's eyes and you will be able to see how broken and wrecked they are.
