CHAPTER 3
—
"What did you do, Dysthe Jacintha!" dad shouted angrily.
Dad found out what happened in the school. Liemira's mother went to the office before the class ended. Her mother said that she wants to talk to our parents, I sighed heavily, I tried to explain but dad doesn't want to listen.
"She started it, you don't expect me to just watch, don't you, dad?" she asked emphatically.
I held her arms and shook my head to her, she'll make dad mad even more.
"And do you expect to be happy at what you did, huh, Dysthe!" dad voice thundered in the living room, Mom is not around, while Nathan is just watching us, he's standing beside dad.
"I'm not expecting you to be happy, you never was, I just want you to understand what I did... but I realized that you never listen to anyone, dad," Dysthe said.
I bit my lips and pulled her, "Dysthe... don't talk back," I whispered to her.
Dad clenched his jaw as his eyes darkened, "Where did you learn that kind of manner, huh, Dysthe. Who gave you the permission to talk like that!" I closed my eyes as fear consumed me, dad is so scary.
"Isn't unfair, dad? You listened to them but you're depriving your daughters to explain themselves!" she exclaimed.
I gasped when dad slapped Dysthe, "Dad!" I yelled in shock.
"Fix your attitude, Dysthe Jacintha. Talk to me like that again and I'm gonna take away your freedom from you," dad said and walked out.
Dysthe chuckled loudly, "Should I be scared, huh, dad? You already did a long time ago," she muttered.
Daddy turns at her, "You're getting worst, I'm confiscating all of your gadgets, you're grounded," dad said coldly and head inside his office.
I exhaled sharply, "Dysthe..." I whispered at her, she looks at me and smile.
"It's fine, this is not the first time, remember?" she said and gave me an assuring smile.
"You're such a trouble, Dysthe. You're ruining the family's reputation, learn how to be careful," I moved my gaze to Nathan when he spoke.
"Nathan, please, not now," I said.
"You're talking like you never did something, Nathan. What a hypocrite, brother," Dysthe said and smirked at Nathan.
He look at her coldly, "I already fixed it, Dysthe. Stop dragging my past and start working on how you would improve your personal development as a person, it's a disappointment that you didn't changed a bit,"
"Nathan, you're being too harsh, can you act like a real brother sometimes?" I asked in frustration. I loathed the way he never cared for us.
"Then act accordingly, Demetra. You and Dysthe are carrying our family's name, stop acting like a kid, you're both grown up already," he stated, he delivered it like we are sort of embarrassment because of what we did.
"Are you serious, Nathan?" I asked unbelievably.
He shrugged and turns his back, my gaze turns to Dysthe when she chorted sarcastically.
"Such a good way to correct your mistakes, brother. If you're being afraid that we will make the same mistake as you then you're mistaken, we're not dumb like you," she said and smirked.
"You're talking too much. I may be dumb at once, but at least I'm not acting to be strong, Dysthe. Pretending will be your biggest downfall," Nathan said and walked away.
I sat down as Nathan vanished at my sight, "Are you okay?" I asked.
She sat beside me, "Such a good name to carry on," she said and chuckled.
I pursed my lips, "You can use my gadgets if you want," I uttered to her, dad will be really strict at Dysthe, I know that but I'll make sure that I'll find away for my sister.
Dysthe nods at me, "Thank you, Dems. I don't know what I will do without you," she said, I pouted at her, that's not true, I should be one who should say that.
"Do you want to rest already?" I asked.
She shrugged, "I'm gonna wait here until mom come home," she said and lean on the couch.
I nod at her, "I'll go and change, just call me upstairs if you need me," I told her.
I went to my room and took a half-bath and after that, I immediately went to the bed, this day is kinda tiring, I went to my study table and prepare my materials, I need to finish my projects before the deadline, I don't want to rush.
While shading my sketch my phone rang, it's unknown number.
:Hello? This is Demetra Homer, who am I talking to?
I looked at the caller when no one answer, is the caller pranking me or what?
:Hello? I'll end this if you won't say something.
I said but still, the caller didn't utter anything so I decided to end it, after a seconds my phone rang again.
My brow furrowed, it's the same number a while ago, I sighed and decline it. I used my silent mode in my phone, I need to focus.
After four hours, I finished my first design, I stretched my body to reduce the numbness of it, I still have to finish two more design, I glanced at the clock, it's already nine o'clock in evening.
I held my stomach when I heard it make a sound, I still haven't eaten yet, I yawned and decided to go downstairs.
I went to the kitchen to eat, I saw the food on the fridge so I just put on a Tupperware and heat it on the microwave.
It didn't last long, I was just eating quiescently when mom enter the kitchen, I smiled at her.
"Good evening, mom, what time did you went home?" I asked and kissed her cheeks.
She kissed my forehead, "Just an hour ago, I talked to your sister," mom said and sat in front of me.
I sighed, "I'm sorry, mom, it's really my fault—"
"It's not your fault, Demetra. You did what you think is right," mommy said.
I stares at her, she looks stress, "Do you have a problem, mom?" I asked worriedly.
She shrugged and beamed at me, "I'm fine, baby, your dad and I just had a little argument,"
"Again? You've been fighting often, are you really okay?"
"It's normal, Dems. It's just a misunderstanding, don't worry about it, I heard your back hit the table, does it hurts?" I sighed, she quickly shift the topic.
I just pursed my lips, "It's fine, mommy," I said.
Mommy stood up and walked towards to me, "Let me check it,"
I stares at mommy while she's checking my back, I can see her eye bags, she's still beautiful but I know there's something missing in her eyes.
"I hope you're really fine, mom," I whispered to her, she stay stilled as she looks at me.
She shook her head and pulled me in her arms, "Mommy is fine, Dems." she said as she caressed my hair.
I hugged her tightly, mom is my comfort, she's always there for us. She's so sweet and caring, she's the total opposite of dad. Mom balance everything in the house, she's not strict but she taught us the limitation that a person should remember.
"Dad is scary a while ago," I whispered to her as I remember what happened earlier.
I felt mommy's sighed, "Your dad is just stress to his works, but I'll apologize in his behalf, I'm sorry for your dad's behavior this past few months," don't be mad at him, okay? I'll talk to him," mommy said sweetly and moved a little to face me.
I nods at her, "Yes, mommy, I understand," I replied and smiled.
"What happened a while ago?"
My forehead wrinkle in confusion, "Where, mom? In the school?" I asked.
"No, what happened after the meeting to Fernandez Family?"
I smiled sadly at her, "Dad got mad, he confiscated Dysthe's car and gadgets, "
"I can talk to your dad about that," she said but she raised her brow to me like she's waiting for me to continue.
"What did Dysthe do?" she asked, my eyes widened at mom.
"What do you mean, mom?"
She smiled at me, "Your dad often got mad but he won't get your things unless you provoke him," mommy said.
I sighed, "Dysthe... talk back at dad," I said and told her the whole thing that happened earlier.
Mommy chuckled, "She got her attitude to your dad, they're both gladiatorial person, they'll say whatever they want to say, like your brother too,"
"I was trying to explain to dad what happened but he's not listening," I said to mom.
"Your father is sometimes driven by his emotion, he's great in controlling it but when he lost it, it'll be trouble, don't worry I'll handle it," mom said.
I smiled at her, I told her what happened but I skipped the part when daddy slapped Dysthe. Mommy never lay her hand on us, she said that violence is not the answer to discipline a child. I'm so certain that she'll be mad at dad if she'll found out.
"Did you eat already, mom?" I asked carefully.
"Yes, baby, I ate already at work, by the way, I'll go and take a rest, hmm, call me if you need me," mommy said and kissed me in my forehead and cheeks.
A smile crept into my lips as I watched her walked away, "I've noticed everything, but I wouldn't say anything about it, mom," I whispered.
I finished eating and went to my room, I sat at my chair and checked my phone, my brow furrowed when I saw a lot of miscalls, it's from the unknown number.
I shrugged and decided to call back the number, after three ring it answered.
:Hi? This is Demetra Homer, you've called me for how many times, I think it's important. Do you need something?
I waited for it to answer but there's none. I sighed heavily.
:I don't know if you're just pranking me but if you don't have a plan to talk then I'm gonna block this number in my contact.
I said, I was about to end the call when someone spoke.
[Where's Dysthe Homer?]
My lips parted when I heard the voice of a man, he's searching for Dysthe? How did he get my number?
:Ahm, who are you? Dysthe is in her room right now, do you want to speak to her?"
[She's not answering my call,]
I pursed my lips, who is he? Where did he get my number? Did Dysthe gave it to him incase of emergency and he can't contact her?
:May I know who I am talking to? My sister is resting right now but if it's urgent then I can make a way for that.
I said politely, this is Dysthe's friend so I should be nice.
[No need,]
I pouted, the way he speaks is so arrogant, I don't like his tone too.
:Okay, can I end this call?
I asked.
[Yah,]
He said boredly, I rolled my eyes and end the call immediately That's not the right way to talk when you're speaking to someone.
I turn my phone off so no one can disturb me while I'm sketching, I was in the middle of shading when Dysthe enter my room.
I look at the clock, it's already one o'clock in the morning, "You're still awake, do you need something?" I asked.
She smiled at me and lie on the bed, "I just finished reading my books, we have a recite tomorrow, can I sleep here?"
I nods at her, "Of course, you're always welcome here, Dysthe." I said and turns at my sketch, I need to make it done.
"What time will you go to bed? Did you drink you vitamins?" she asked, I glanced at her and nod.
"Yap, I'll just finish this, I'm almost done," I replied.
I was so focus on what I'm doing so I wasn't able to talk to her properly.
"Ahhhh," I murmured as I finished my second design, I glance at the clock, it's already quarter to three.
I exhaled sharply and put my head on the table, "This is tiring," I whispered and stood up to stretch my body, my back hurts.
"Do you want me to massage you?" I jumped in surprise and turn around, Dysthe is lying on the bed while holding her books.
"I thought you're asleep," I muttered at her.
"I'm waiting for you," she said and sat.
I chuckled, "You still can't sleep if the lights is on?" I asked, when we were younger she always wanted the lights to be off.
"Yap but I'm really waiting for you,"
I shook my head, "I'll just arrange and fix my things," I said and beamed at her.
After I put my things on their designated places I went to the bed and jumped in her, I laughed when she groaned.
"Demetra Jacinthe!" she exclaimed and pushed me, I sat down and chortled at her, she's frowning.
"It's already three o'clock, let's sleep," I muttered and smiled naughtily.
She hissed and rolled her eyes, "Such a bad girl, Dems!"
I shrugged and stuck my tongue to her, I turn off the lights and lay beside her. I put my hands in Dysthe waist and hugged her.
Like the good old days.
"Did he let you go in Hexon's birthday?" Kyla asked.
Where here in the cafeteria, it's been three days since the incident happened, everything is already okay. Liesandra has not been around since that day too.
I sighed and look at Kyla, "Dad already said yes but I have a curfew,"
"Omygosh! Yes! I'm gonna call Hex, curfew is fine as long as Uncle Jonathan permitted you to go," Kyla said in so much excitement.
"Is there any required dress code like before?" I asked.
"He doesn't have any concept so anything will do, I'll wear the cocktail dress that we bought last time,"
"You bought a lot of dress, Kyla, which one?" I asked and furrowed my brow.
She laughed at me, "Tss, the red one, it has deep v neck and tight textile,"
"Oh, I remember it! It's too sexy and revealing for damn sake, Kyla Xasmin," I shook my head at her and chuckled.
"Well, you should wear the black dress that I bought for you," she grinned at me.
I frowned at her, "No way, I would rather stay at home than to wear that black dress,"
"Ouch!" I pushed her hand away from me, she pitched me.
"You're gonna wear that whether you like it or not," she said and widened her eyes, I bit my lips to hide my laughter.
She's threatening me as if she can do something about it, I would not wear the dress she gave to me, it's damn daring and I don't like it.
"Dems, can you choose what's better," I turn at Kyla, she shown me two gowns, I pouted as I noticed the design and signature, it's an Armani brand and Versace.
"I like the Armani dress, it screams sophistication and class, but Versace dress is also beautiful and elegant in the eyes,"
She pouted at me, "I don't know what should I wear, I'm preparing for the competition next month,"
"Well, it's both beautiful and come on, Kyla, you can slay everything you wear," I said to her.
That's true, she has this good fashion and posture, she can make a clothes more expensive when she wore them.
She smiled at me, "Of course, Dem! I have my one and only gorgeous best friend, my future designer," she said and giggled.
I laughed, "Stop doing that expression, geez," I said and laughed even more, she's giving a puppy eyes.
She hissed at me, "You're really great at breaking the momentum, Demetra," she said sarcastically.
"Thanks, by the way I saw two-piece swim suit online, it's from Hermoza brand, I know you'll love it so I bought it," I said.
"Where? Let me see!"
"Be careful, Kyla. Look," I scanned my phone to find the swimwear that I bought for her, she loves red and I know her style.
"This," I show her my phone, her eyes widened, "Omygosh, Dems! I love it, damn,"
"It will shift after two days so maybe tomorrow it's here already,"
She smiled widely at me, "I'm gonna wear that next month," she said and grinned.
"I'll be your photographer, then,"
She chortled and gave a flying kiss, I frowned at her.
"Let's go, we still have a class," I said and stood up.
When I enter our classroom I saw someone seating on my chair, I walked towards it and look at the person, it's a girl.
Some of the students are now looking at the girl with some confusion, the girl looks at me and raised her brow.
I sighed, "You're seating on my chair," I said nicely.
"There's no name here," she said coldly.
"Hey, transferee! Just moved to another chair, that seat is for Demetra!" Lasker said, one of my friends in the room.
"I'm not hey, I'm Piloer, i***t," the girl said, I chuckled, she's witty, some of the students made a mocking sound.
I shrugged, I was about to search for another chair when the girl stood up, "You can seat," she said and smiled at me.
She walked to the chair in the last row and carry it next to me, I stares at her, she looks at me innocently and smirked.
"Tss, someone wants to get popular, ahm," Lakers said as he looks at her, the girl beside me raised her middle finger.
"Shut the f**k up, dude," she said, I gasped at her words.
"Oh dude, burn,"
"What the hell, she's a savage,"
The girl rolled her eyes and turns at me, "You're Demetra Homer, right?" she asked.
I nods at her, "Yes, you are?"
She smirked, "Piloer Loszerno," she said.
It doesn't ring a bell to me, I smiled at her, "Nice to meet you," I uttered.
Our professor went in before she can even reply to me, "Good morning, class. This day we have a transferee even though she's already too late, let's welcome Ms. Piloer Loszerno."
Piloer just smiled a bit but she didn't stood up.
After the class I went outside, I was walking when Piloer blocked my way, she smiled at me, "Kyla is your best friend, right?" she asked.
I nods at her, "Why? Do you know her?"
She nods at me, "I'm her friend too," she said and shrugged.
"You'll gonna meet her right? Can I come with you?"
I pursed my lips, "Yeah, we'll gonna see each other in the parking lot,"
"Alright, let's go," she said and walked.
I chuckled, she's seems bubbly, shy, and confident. All in one, I shrugged and went to the parking lot.
I saw Kyla and Piloer talking when I entered the parking lot, they look close.
Kyla waved at me as her eyes darted on mine, I've been friends with Kyla for a years but this is the first time I saw Piloer.
I stopped beside Kyla, she smiled at me, "I think you know her already, she's my childhood friend too," Kyla said.
"I witnessed how obsessed she was to Dizen before," Piloer said and laughed.
My lips parted, "Really?" I asked naughtily as I look at Kyla with teasing look.
"Oh no, not that, Piloer. Shut your mouth, kid," Kyla said in a threatening tone, Piloer chuckled and stuck her tongue too her.
"I'm not a kid anymore! By the way, Dizen is also here, right?" Kyla nod at her.
"He's busy, do you want to talk to him? I'll give you his number,"
Piloer nods multiple times, "I miss the both of you, I've been away for almost a decade," she said and pouted.
"You just vanished, when Dizen and I went to your house they just said that you moved to Singapore,": Kyla said.
"It's an urgent, we're not even prepared to fly that time," Piloer said.
"How's Auntie? Is she okay already? or she's still sick?"
"She's still sick but more better now,"
"I'm gonna visit some other time," Kyla said, my attention went to the car beside Kyla.
I sighed and look at her, "I need to go, Nathan is here," I said and kissed her cheeks, I glanced at Piloer and smiled at her.
When I went inside the car, I saw Dysthe in the back seat, she's just looking outside, I'm seating in the front seat.
I took a glimpse in Dysthe in the mirror, "Are you okay, Dysthe?" I asked, she look pale.
She look at me and smiled, "Yes, just tired," she said.
"You look sick, what are you feeling right now?" I moved my body to check her temperature.
"I'm fine, just a little headache," she whispered.
I sighed, "You don't have a flu, maybe you need to rest, Dysthe. Don't abuse your health,"
"Eat this," I and Dysthe looks at Nathan... down to the sandwich he's holding, I stares at him weirdly.
"What?" he asked with annoyance.
I shook my head and take the sandwich, I opened it and gave to Dysthe. She accepted it but she rolled her eyes first at Nathan.
When we finally went home I guided Dysthe in her room and gave her a medicine to reduce the headache, after that I head to my room and lie down to my bed.
I need to do a research paper and sketch again, I sighed and forced myself to stand, I don't want to procrastinate, I want it to be well-done.
I fixed my things before I head out in my room, I'm going to my art room cause I need to paint, I'm in front of my art room door when I heard mom's voice, she's shouting.
I pursed my lips and shrugged, they're fighting again, I don't know what's wrong, I've been asking mommy about it but she kept on saying that everything is fine and I shouldn't worry.
I went in and just decided to focus on important things that I need to finish, I need to set my eyes on my goals.
I sat on my chair, I'm facing a plain canvas, our activity is to paint something that move our drives. I closed my eyes as I think of something to paint, I smiled when something came to my mind.
I was pre-occupied on what I am doing when someone enter the room, I smiled when I saw my painting, I glanced at the wall clock, I started at six o'clock and finished at nine thirty. It took me three hours and thirty minutes to paint a simple ocean & forest that surrounded by darkness.
I put a moon and some star to give it a glow, the forest, ocean and sky fits perfectly together as I combined their colors to form the color of life.
"It's beautiful but down-hearted," I turn around as I heard mommy's voice.
I smiled at her, "Mom, how long are you been here?" I asked.
She shrugged and walked towards me, "I just went it," she said, she's staring at my painting.
"How is it?" I asked.
She smiled, "It's alluring to look at, you improved a lot, but... the vibes of the painting... I feel like I'm looking at something that's so mesmerizing but empty, it's making feel disconsolate and overwhelmed," she turns at me, "Are you okay, baby?" she asked with worry in her eyes.
My lips parted, "Of course, mom, why did you asked?" I asked.
She shook her head, "A painting is the thoughts and emotions of the painter, it has a hidden message that wants to be found, I can feel the heaviness in this painting," she stares at me using her vulnerable eyes.
I swallowed hard as I stares at mom's face, she's so beautiful, "Do you want to share something to mommy? You know that mom is always here, right?" she muttered and caressed my hair.
I pursed my lips and look at the painting in front of me, "Our professor said that we should paint something different and unique so I decided to paint the beauty of person without her soul," I stopped and look at her, "You're right, mommy. It looks so fascinated to stare at but feels so empty. I want to represent the emptiness of a person without her soul, that a human can be beautiful but also meaningless and worthless," I sighed and moved my gaze to the painting.
"That in times of trouble, you should always choose to save yourself before the world it away from you, and you would start to lose your sight on the clear ocean as it started to became blurred in your eyes. When the comfort of the forest turned to abandonment, and before the glittering light in the night sky be the solace of your comfort... and all of those are the beauty that will starts to be futile and desolate in your life."

In between the beauty of creation, how can a beauty remain as the essence of purpose changed with the feelings we can't untamed.
