CHAPTER 1 — "Demetra! Let's go, won't you go in the party tonight?" my classmate asked. "I can't, maybe next time," I said and smiled at her. "You always say next time, I wonder when it will happen," she said and walked away. I sighed heavily, what can I do? I don't have time to party. I have a lot to do, besides, my father won't let me. He's too strict. I'm walking at the corridor when someone gets on my way, "Hi, what's your name?" the boy asked. I raised my brow to him, "Excuse me? You're getting into my way," I said frigidly. He shrugged and smiled, "Hmm, I'll leave when you say your name," he said with his annoying smile. "Why I would tell my name to someone stranger?" I asked sarcastically. He smirked at me, "Tss, just say you want to know my name too," he said playfully, I furrowed my brow to him. What an arrogant man. "I don't even care who you are, Mr. So please, just leave," I said in a modest way, I still don't want to be rude, I can't be. "Are you mad, Ms? You have the softest voice that I heard, I wonder if you're mad or you're still being nice," he said as he stares at me. I smiled at him, "I'm being nice, so, please get out on my way," I muttered at him, the side of his lips rose up. "You're really the opposite of your sister, huh," he said and link his lips. I raised my brow to him, "What does it mean? and wait, you know my sister?" I asked. He shrugged, "You're really asking that? Your family is very popular, everyone knows you and your relative," he replied boredly. I sighed and looks at him in the eyes, "What do you want then? Do you like my sister that's why you're trying to be close to me," He frowned at me, "I don't like your sister, she's not my type," I flickered my tongue on my cheeks as I look at him with so much boredom, "I'm sure you're not my sister's type, too," I said sarcastically. He chortled at me, "I don't care, how about you?" he asked. "What about me?" I fired back. He pursed his lips and smiled at me naughtily, "Am I your type?" he said and raised his to me. My face crumble in annoyance as I look at him, "You're so full of yourself, can you try to humble it a little? and you're not my type, okay? So please, just let me leave peacefully," I said calmly. "Your nice but kinda savage, Demetra Jacinthe Homer." he muttered, he smirked at me as he walked away, he waved his hands on me, "Smile, you'll be more beautiful if you smile," he shouted, I closed my eyes on embarrassment, who the hell is that? I exhaled sharply as I continue to walk, it's not my attitude to look at other while I'm walking, I'll just go in the place I want to go. I went to the cafeteria and ordered a food, while waiting I opened my laptop to check some of designs, I want to improve skills in sketching especially that I need to focus on the body shape of a person and their size. My forehead wrinkle when I saw some erasure in my design, I sighed sharply, I spent my whole night sketching this one and I hate that I wasn't able to perfect it in such way. Should I try to draw again? I really need to improve my skills, I want to be a designer and build my own company where I can manage all of my signature clothes. I'm fold my laptop to use as a tablet, I'm more relax when I'm using a digital but I need to learn both. We were task to make a gown, there's no specific instruction. I'll draw my ideal gown, I love the color of navy blue so I'll buy some materials later. I need a water color, pencil and pen with different shades, I also needs a canvas, I already used all of my materials yesterday and last week. I was interrupted when someone sat in front of me, it's a girl with a full pack bangs, she looks like Filipino-America, I looks at her with a question mark on my face, I mean not literally, I just look at her with confusion. She smiled at me, "I'm sorry, I'm just new here. I'm so shy to sit alone," she said shyly, My lips parted, but I closed it immediately, "It's, ahm, fine," I said as I beamed at her. She bit her lips, "You actually looks nice, that's the reason why I sat here," she whispered and scratch her nose. It's so rare for someone to talk to me cause they're been careful, especially that I'm a Homer so I was just shocked that someone tried to approach me. I nods at her, "What's you name?" I asked. "I'm Liesandra Fernandez," she muttered, she's looking down so I can't clearly see her face. Wait... Fernandez? I think it somehow ring a bell on me, wait, oh! The owner of the Vuela en el cielo airline! "Are you the daughter of Liemindro Fernandez?" I asked as I stared at her. She looks at me with her widened eyes, "You know my father?" she asked surprisingly as if it's a new thing to know her father. "Yes, he's the owner of the famous Spanish airline so... I kinda remember him," I muttered at her. She smile wider, "I transfer here because of my father, he said that I will learn a lot here," she said. "Where's your former school?" I "Harvard," she said plainly. "Your course?" "I'll inherit our business with is the airline so I think you already know what's my course is," she said as she stares at me. "Why are you looking at me like that?" I asked as I noticed the way she looks at me intently. "Wait... you look familiar, I think I saw you somewhere," she said and acted like she's thinking. I shrugged and waited for her to remember something, she's not familiar to me, I think this is the first time I saw her. I smiled at the waiter when my food got served already, "Thank you," I said politely. "Are you a... Homer?" I turn to her when I heard her asked it. "What do you think?" I replied as I ate my food. "Omygosh! Is that the reason they're looking at me?" she said as she roamed the cafeteria, a lot of students are looking in our way. I chuckled at her, "Don't mind them," She sighed heavily, "But you're really a Homer? Who is your parents?" she asked. I swallowed my food before I look at her, "Jonathan Homer," I said plainly, everyone knows my father, they know how intimidating he is. Her lips formed an O-shape, "Damn, omygosh! He's a strict father, right?" "Yap, but not too strict, he just have a rules that you need to follow," I stated. I love my father's way of teaching us, he taught us how to balance everything, everything has a limit and we should that as we grow older. "Are you allowed to go in parties or bar?" I link my lips, "Yes, but I don't really want to. It's just a waste of time, I'd rather study and improve my skills that to waste a day for a nonsense things," I stated and continue in eating. "Ahm, wait, you have a twin sister, right?" I nod at her, "Yes," I said. "Oh, I remember it now! Demetra and Dysthe, right?" "Yes," She chuckled, "I heard a lot of gossip about you and your sister, how come I didn't notice that you're Demetra, geez," I pursed my lips, "What kind of made up stories did you heard?" I asked. "Well, they just said that you and your twin sister is very different to each other, you know like an angel and an... ahm, evil-like," she said in hesitation. "Tss, people can't really mind their own business, huh," I said as I finished my food, I focus on my laptop as I fix my design. "I conclude that you're the angel—" "Don't believe in what you hear, we're just the same," I muttered at her, I don't like it when they are comparing me and Dysthe. She bit her lips, "I'm sorry," she said. I smiled apologetically at her, "No, it's fine. I'm sorry," I said. "You're not eating?" I asked. I finished my food but she's still not getting any food. She shook her head, "My stomach is still full, my mom made me ate a lot a while ago," she said and giggled. I chuckled at her, "I heard your mother is pregnant," I asked, her eyes widened as she turns to me. "How did you know?" she asked with her eyes widened open. "It's the news, Liesandra. I hope it's a boy now?" I said and chuckled. She frowned, "I really hope so, I have three siblings and all of them are girls, I really want it to be a boy this time!" she exclaimed. "I'll pray for that," I said as I stood up, "I think I need to go, I still have some class to attend," She nods at me, "Take care, Demetra." she said as she stood up too. "Are you okay here? Don't you have a class?" I asked. "I'm fine and I still have thirty minutes break so I'll just wander around the school," she said and grinned at me. I smiled at her, "I'll go now," "Wait... can I get your number?" she asked. I nods at her, I went to my class after I gave her my number. I was listening when someone sat at my side, I glanced at it and went back to listening. Damn, we have a lot of activities to do, I'll be really busy this week. The dismissal came and I saw Kyla standing outside our room, she's smirking at me. I rolled my eyes on her as I stop in front of her, "Your skirt is too short," I muttered but she just make a face. "You're skirt is too long, Demetra," she said mockingly. I chuckled at her, "You're going somewhere?" I asked as I saw her shoes. She pouted at me, "I'll go to bar, don't you want to come with me? Just try to unwind, Dems." she clung in my arms as she tried to convinced me. I shook my head and remover her hand on me, "I'm very busy right now, Kyla. And besides, you know that I don't like parties, right?" I gave her a knowing look. She sighed and grinned, "I just tried my luck, Dems. You know, someday you might change your mind," she said naughtily, I shook my head, "That won't happen, Kyla Xasmin. You're dreaming for something impossible," I muttered jokingly at her. She hissed, "Blah, blah, blah, Demetra Jacinthe." "Does Uncle Jelden knows that you're going to a bar, huh?" I asked as I raised my brow to her. She smirked at me, "Of course... not, " I pushed her playfully, "I'm gonna tell it to Uncle," She squints at me, "As if you'll do that, Demetra." she said with her plain tone. "I heard someone has the audacity to have a lunch with you," Kyla said as she fix her clothes, we're in girls bathroom. "Oh, she's the second daughter of Mr. Liemindro Fernandez," I replied to her, I'm just leaning on the wall while watching her put make up in her face. "Hmm, what's her name?" "Liesandra, do you know her?" I asked, she shrugged and pop her lips. She put her lipstick down and turns at me, "I don't know her, but I know her father. She's a transferee right?" I nod at her, "She's from Harvard," I plainly said and washed my hands. "How is she?" I look at Kyla, "What do you mean?" I asked. She shrugged, "Her personality? Is she nice? a b***h?" I chuckled at her, "She seems nice unlike you," I said and grinned at her. She rolled her eyes on me, "Oh, shut up, Dems." "Until what time are you going to stay in the bar, hmm? Don't drink too much, Kyla. Or else, you'll be really doomed," I said as I warned her. "I know, I'll be right back at twelve in the midnight, text me too if you want something to eat so I can buy before I go home," I hissed at her, "Are you bribing me?" She laughed, "Kinda, just this once," she said and show me her puppy eyes, I pushed her lightly. "You're such a hard-headed woman, just this once, Kyla. After this I won't lie to Uncle anymore," I muttered to her. She pouted to me and nod, "You're going straight at home?" she asked. I shook my head, "I'll buy my stuff in SM, I need new pens and brushes for my sketch," "Do you want to go with you first? I still have time," she suggested, I smirked at her and scrutinize her from head to toe. "I don't think you can go to the mall wearing the bralette and short skirt, Kyla." I stated and winced at her. "I can wear a coat, Dems. You're damn conservative." "Are you sure you're still have a time? It will take time you know, I'm very picky to my stuff," I mumbled and raised my brow to her. "Why are we talking inside the bathroom? Let's go outside and talk, geez," she said and walked out, I chortled and followed her. She stopped in the parking lot, "Let's go," she said. "Let's just see each other at the mall, I brought my car," I replied as I pointed my car. "Let's meet in the National Bookstore!!" she shouted as she went inside her car. I was walking towards my car when the guy a while ago blocked my way, again. What the hell! I look at him boredly, "Do you need something?" I asked plainly. He smiled at me, "Can I get your number?" he said in a very straight-forward manner. I pursed my lips to hide my annoyance, "No," "Why?" he asked. I raised my brow to him, "And why I would give you my number, too? I don't know who you are, so just please, don't waste my time. I'm a busy person," I explained. He pushed his hair back with the use of hand and looks at me seriously, "I'll stop, just give your number," he said. I shook my head, "I don't want to be rude but you're being demanding, can't you understand the word 'no'?" He hissed, "I'm not a pre-school, I understand it but I need your number," he said as if he's being frustrated now, wow. "Are you being mad right now?" I asked unbelievably. He stares at me, "No, I'm not mad. I'm just annoyed, I don't want to talk to you, too. I'm just doing this for my little brother," he said directly, my lips parted. "Why does he want—" "He idolize you and your cousins, he made a wished to his birthday and I just need to grant it," he said coldly, gone the playful aura. I sighed and lend my hand, "Where's your phone?" I asked. I look at him when he gave it to me, "Tss," I said. I walked towards my car and drove away, I stopped in the parking lot and immediately went inside the mall. I'm sure Kyla will get annoyed, she's very impatience. As I enter the National Bookstore I dialed Kyla's number, it took three rings for her to answer. "Where are you, Dems?" she asked, I chuckled at her, she's trying to hide her irritation, as if she can. "I'm here, where are you?" I asked. "Tss, number 5 books," she said, I ended the call when I saw her, she's frowning at me. "Someone talked to me, that's not my fault," I said as I playfully raised my hands at her, she's sending a glare to me. "I really hate waiting," she said and frowned again. I smirked at her, "Just take this as a tie—" "Shut up, Dems." I chuckled and picked a basket, I put everything I need. I was busy looking for the brand of a brush when I noticed that I'm buying too much, I sighed. "What's with the heavy sighed?" Kyla said as she glance at me. "I still want to buy but it's already too much," I said. She rolled her eyes on me, "It's fine, Demetra. It's not as if you're just wasting your money, you'll actually use that so buy it if you want it." she said emphatically. I shook my head and put the brushes on my basket, "Let's go, I'm gonna line up," I told her and went straight to the line. "Take care, Kyla. Remember what I have said, don't drink too much," I said, I want to remind her cause she tends to be reckless sometimes. "Yes, Mom!" she said sarcastically. "I'm serious, I'm gonna kick your ass," We're here in the parking lot and it's time for us to separate ways, I glared at her after she hugged me. "I can't really trust that smile," I said and shook my head, she laughed and went to her car. "Don't drain yourself too much, Dems. Text me if you want something!" she said and drove away. I smiled and put my thing in the car, I want to sleep after this. I felt exhausted. When I went home, Manong Astro helps me to get my things in my art room. After fixing my stuff I went to my room, I took a bath and went to my bed. I was scrolling my phone when my someone knocked on my door, "Open," I said and sat down. Dysthe smiled at me, "You just went home?" I asked. She nod and sat beside me, she's still wearing her uniform. It's already nine o'clock in the evening. "Where did you go?" I asked. She pouted on me, "I went to my friend's house, I thought dad will scold me but I'm lucky that he's not here," she said. "Did something happen?" I held her hand, she look okay but I know her, she's my twin. "I'm just stressed at school, law is getting harder everyday, I need to memorize a lot of book and Daddy is pressuring me about getting in the dean's lister," she stated. I sighed heavily, "Just do your best and focus on the things that matter, Dysthe. Avoid any distraction if it's possible," I muttered. "It's too easy to say but so hard to do, Dems. I'm trying my best but it was never enough, I keep on failing... it's getting tiring," she whispered. I hugged her tightly, "Everything's gonna be okay," I whispered to her . My brow furrowed when I smell an alcohol, I sniff her clothes, damn. "Dysthe, did you drink an alcohol?" I asked carefully. Dysthe sat properly and nods at me, "Yes, I just want to relax for a while, I'm losing my mind," she said and lay her body on my bed. "You shouldn't drink next time, if dad smell that alcohol you'll be in trouble." Dysthe looks at me, "You won't tell to dad, right?" she said. I just sighed and shook my head, "I won't, just don't do this again, okay?" "I don't want to go to school anymore ,I just want to party and drink all day, this life is so damn messed up," she's looking at ceiling as she uttered those words. "Dysthe..." I whispered. "Do you think this life is worth living?" I exhaled and looks at her. "Every life is worth living, Dysthe. One day... everything will be alright, it's just a pace—" "If this is just a pace then why it's taking too long? I don't want this kind of life," she said emphatically. "Dysthe, what's wrong?" I asked worriedly. She turns at me, "Are you really fine in this kind of set up? Everything is just limited, it's damn suffocating, we're not a child anymore, why can't they just let us do whatever we want to do," she exclaimed in frustration. "Don't be mad at them, Dysthe. Just think this way, we're not young anymore but we're still not old enough to stand for our own, we still need their guidance," She chortled, "Why do you always understand things, Dems? Don't you get tired of it? I know you, you tend to decipher everything because you don't want to misunderstood something... but how about you? Are you okay?" I smiled, "I love the way it is, Dysthe. Everything will happen in they it was meant to be, so please, if you can't handle it anymore then come to me, you can always to me, I'm willing to listen," I uttered at her, I held her hand tightly. She smiled at me and tapped the space beside her, I shrugged and lay down, we're just looking at the ceiling. "Did you ever feel insecure, Dems?" I glanced at her when she asked that. "Yes, sometimes. Whenever I see a happy family, just living in a simple ordinary life. I wanted that too," I muttered at her. "You? Did you ever felt insecure?" I asked. "A lot of times, I was just thinking of how could other people be happy and then the others are just so lonely, isn't that unfair?" "Maybe that's not their time yet, we have to wait for our time, cause in that... we can see ourselves shining," I murmured. "You read too much novel, Dems. By the way, I heard Liesandra Fernandez talks to you or even have the guts to dine with you," she said. I sighed at her, "Dysthe, she's nice," I said. She frowned at me, "I said that too before, Dems. Remember, her older sister, Liemira seems to be nice at first but for the hell sake, she's an evil with her bitchy ugly face," Dysthe muttered in annoyance. "Maybe they are different," I said. She rolled her eyes and sat, "How is that so? The are siblings, they share the same blood, the same genes, it's so hard to trust so I'm telling you... avoid her as soon as possible," I nods at her, "We just talked once, I think that will be the last," I replied at her. "She looks like her sister, I saw her a while ago," "You didn't do something, right?" I asked, Dysthe can be impulsive and brutal when she's mad. She smirked at me, "I'm not that petty, I won't hurt her someone who never hurts me, unless I was provoke," I beamed at her, "I know that," "Wait, I'm gonna tell you something, but it's a secret, okay?" she said seriously, I sat down and face her. "Hmm," "I met a guy last week, we've been seeing each other lately and I felt really at peace when I'm with him, it feels like I can be myself when he's around..." My lips parted at what she said, it's the first time she talked about a man. I blink for how many times, her eyes glint in happiness as she looks at me. "Ahm, ahh, where did you met him?" I asked. She shrugged, "She's from Nathan's school, same age as Nathan," she said. "Oh, okay, just make sure that he won't be a distraction to you," "He's good for my health, he's keeping me calm," I smiled at her, "I'm so happy for you, maybe some other time you can introduce him to me so I can threaten him, hmm," she raised her brow to me and that made us laughed. "Demetra threatening someone is just so impossible," Dysthe said and laughed even more, I pouted at her. "But seriously, Dysthe. I want to meet him, if he can make you happy then you can except that you have support," I said sincerely. She hugged me tightly, "I love you, Dems. You're one of the reason why I'm being strong," she whispered. "I love you, too. We'll going to conquer everything together, Dysthe. It's always you and me until the end," uttered and embrace her. In between Dysthe and I, they always say that Dysthe is the stronger one and I agreed to that. She's really strong and brave enough to show herself, she never fake her feelings and emotions to anyone, it is what you see.
