Alden rubs Luke's hair. "Let's see how much gold you get."
"I forgot I get gold."
"Gold isn't very exciting. But it helps with life. Everyone wants to see you succeed."
Alden puts the first bar down and hands him the letter. He reads it and hugs me. "Thank you both."
I kiss his head. "We love you Luke. Now you can put it in your vault and save it with your other gold. You'll be super rich someday."
"What will I buy?"
"Whatever you want."
"How do I do this woman? It's gold and letters. I've never seen this done."
"You give him the cards or letters. He'll read them and keep them. They are useful for thanking people."
"What?" Marcus stares at me.
"This part usually isn't done during the party. So the people leaving the gold wouldn't be there to get a thank you. I had to write thank you notes and send them for mine. We're right here, so he's saying thank you to us."
"Can I still write thank you notes?"
"If you want to. It's up to you. You only need to thank people once. If someone's not here, then you would for sure want to write them a thank you note."
Victor sits up. "Or color them a picture and write thank you for my gift on it. Have it sent to them. Something to make sure they get a thank you. But yea, we're here, and you don't even have to say it to us."
"That's true." I shrug my shoulders. "Maybe thank you notes are a more formal thing. You can figure out what you want to do. We're here anyway. Read the next 1."
He reads it and smiles. "Thank you Elek."
"You're welcome little man. You have changed so much. I'm glad I got to see you today."
"Me too." He runs over and gives him a hug. Elek stands up and gives him a better hug. Then he whispers something to him. I don't hear it, but Luke smiles and relaxes.
He makes it through the rest of the notes and gives everyone hugs. He is the sweetest.
Then 2 women walk in. Both have dragons. My dragon is on high alert in my head.
"What happened?"
"Her power boomed Ylle. It's alright."
This woman stares at me. Then she walks over. I stand up and face her. She does have a powerful dragon. She doesn't say a word, she reaches up to touch my head. My dragon screams in my head, -CHALLENGE.-
I rip her arm off and launch her into the center of the room.
A woman yells, "s**t DO SOMETHING."
My dragon strength is fully summoned, and I speed towards the woman with no arm. I collide with Nadine about 10 feet before I get there.
"Damn, you knocked my shoulder out of place."
"Sorry. I wasn't trying to do that. I didn't want you to kill her."
Tye runs over and starts healing us. We collided hard.
"She challenged me, Hypatia."
"I know she did. But she's been around me for so long, I don't think she realized that. We let her read us with no questions. It's more my fault than hers."
"Perhaps give her a lesson in proper etiquette."
"I'm sure her dragon will remind her. Tye get my rib please."
"Please forgive me Queen of Queens Kehlani. I was trying to make sure it was you. I did not think of it as a challenge at the time. It was a mistake." The woman with 1 arm is on her knee's with her face towards the ground.
"I'll vouch for her. She helps us so much. It was a mistake."
"I believe you. Don't challenge me anymore. You irritated and annoyed my dragon more than it already was. You can rise."
Tye and Nadine chuckle.
She stands up as Tye comes back to me and messes with my elbow. "I am truly sorry. I did not think that threw."
"It's alright. Be grateful Hypatia stopped me in time. That was about to end very differently."
"I realize that. Thank you, Nadine. I think I have got a little to used to being the top person around here."
"It happens. DIPAK."
He appears a little weird. "Yes, sweetheart?"
"Can you take Ylle and heal her arm please."
"Of course. Right this way, Ylle."
"Put my shoulder in place please." Nadine grabs my arm and yanks. It cracks really loudly. "Thanks."
"Don't mention it." Tye heals around it.
She stretches. "I need my knee too, Tye."
"You 2 really beat the s**t out of each other by colliding."
"Yea, that was a hard hit."
"Next time I'll throw you out of the way. I'm not going to slam into you."
"That'll be nice. I'll do the same. I like that plan. Colliding hurts too much."
"It does." She stretches her back out.
"I'm good. Thank you, Tye."
"Me too. Thanks, Tye." She gives him a kiss, and we go back to what we were doing before.
I sit back down by Luke, "Sorry got side tracked."
"I thought you were going to eat her for dinner."
"To old. Probably tastes nasty." We crack up laughing.
Alden smirks and hands another letter to Luke. "My dragon likes you all feisty."
"I was surprised you weren't behind me."
"Dragon was side tracked by your feisty ass, and it's not like you needed help with her."
"That's true."
Alden gives him another letter.
Marcus puts an eyebrow up. "How much gold did you send him?"
"I don't know. There's probably 35 bars over there."
"This is from grandma, daddy."
"What?" Marcus takes it and reads it. Then he goes through the letters. He wipes his eyes and tries not to cry.
"What happened?" I take the letters and search, "Oh and your grandparents and dads got in on it Luke. I don't think your dad was ready for that." I motion for Nadine. "He's stuck in emotions now. Like you were earlier."
She comes over. "What's going on?"
"Luke got extra gold and letters from his grandparents and everyone. Marcus wasn't ready for that. He's emotional this time."
She sits on his lap and snuggles him.
Luke keeps reading his letters. "Thank you, momma."
"You're welcome baby. We'll have to send this to your vault tonight. We weren't expecting this much. I had no idea your grandparents got in on it."
He smiles and opens the next letter. "They love me."
"Yes they do. We all do." She kisses his head and Marcus sobs into her chest. "I'm taking this 1." She leads Marcus off.
Elek and I help Luke through the rest. Then he's tired. He falls asleep leaning on Elek.
"I can see how you all act as dads to him."
Elek's eyes fill up with tears. "I missed him."
"I bet. That has to be hard."
He picks up his phone. "I was hoping she would message me. She hasn't said anything."
"Well, she still wants space. Probably didn't want you to miss this for Luke though. Once we leave, send her 1 single message thanking her for allowing you to come for Luke. Just that. Any more than that, you would be encroaching on her space. But 1 message thanking her is ok. And it's keeping communication open. No talk of missing her or loving her or anything. She needs space. Thank you for allowing me to visit Luke while we were there. It meant a lot to me."
"I'll do that after we leave."
"Marcus is a mess. I'm here to take Luke to bed." Dipak picks him up like a baby.
Elek rubs his head. "Good night little man. Sleep well."
I rub his fingers. "Night Luke. See you tomorrow."
Elek smiles at me. "What confused you?"
"When?"
"When you said good night to Luke."
I shrug my shoulders. "I don't know. I've never felt like that about anyone. He's so precious and perfect. But not in a cute way. I mean he's cute but not in a sexy way. I'm sure he's sexy. But I don't see it."
"Different people will pull out different feelings. He's your nephew, you're not going to be attracted to him. Kind of like your dad."
I shake my head so fast. "We can stop talking now. I understand."
He cracks up laughing. "I'm sure some women...."
I plug my ears. He laughs harder.
Then Nadine pulls him up by his shirt, "Let's go talk." She pulls him out of the ballroom. I don't think they're going to go talk.
Alden sits by me. "What was that?"
"She wanted to talk to him."
"Before that, he was laughing."
"We're not talking about it either. You can ask him."
"What did the conversation involve, woman?"
"My dad and what some women may think about his appearance."
"What is that?"
"I don't know. I plugged my ears."
He laughs. "Now I see. You ready to go up to my office?"
