Pilot Chapter

975 Words
I found myself standing in the middle of a frozen field under a heavy snowfall. My feet are trembling as chills crawl from the soles of my feet up to my body. It’s buried to the thick pile of snow. And my skin feels like it’s shrinking from too much cold. “H-Help…” I murmur, trying to create a noise with my voice only a stuttering whisper came out. I desperately roam my eyes around, hoping to see someone I could ask for help or something that can shelter me in this freezing weather, but I saw none but leafless pine trees. Gradually, I start to lose the ability to feel anything—the cold, the trembling of my muscles, and even the tingling sensations as my feet go numb. I did not even feel that my knees are going weak not until I lost balance and fell on the bed of snow. My body shrunk and the drops of snow start to burry my body under. It was then I saw a silhouette before I felt something warm igniting inside me. It was a kind of warm that stems from my core, not from anywhere external. The warmth soon helped me regain my senses, but not my strength. The silhouette then becomes a clear image of a tall and masculine man with silvery eyes. He is looking at me with a neutral look. “Are you the bearer of the lycan’s mark?” he monotonously asks, eyes running through every exposed parts of my body. I couldn’t speak. I just look at him as I try to hide my hand under my silky white dress. I don’t know why, but I have this feel that I can’t let him see the mark or else it will be all over for me. But he caught my slight movement. His silvery orbs darted down at my hand. “It’s you,” he confirmed as his eyes glistened in silver light. I saw how his body started to reshape. He fell on the ground. I can hear the crisp sounds of his breaking bones mixing with his groans and growls. Furs started growing all over his exposed skin. And it was just a few seconds before I saw a massive white beast with silver eyes and sharp teeth. The beast let out a howl that echoed all over the place, mixing with the crying sound of the blizzard; then it looks at me and starts to salivate. “N-No…” I murmured, trying to use the remaining strength I have to stand. But moving a muscle is too hard already. “P-Please…” I plead before the sides of my eyes started to burn. But the beast seems to have heard no plea. It slowly walks towards me, gnarling. I can feel its intense desire to prey on me. Help! Can somebody help me! Save me from this monster! “S-Stay away…” I whisper, tears rolling down my cheeks as despair takes over my whole system. “Please!” I lost hope when I found the monster on top of me, saliva dripping on my stomach. It started growling at me while his silvery eyes piercingly stare. “Go away!” I screamed, but it wasn’t loud enough to sound intimidating. The howling wind just swallowed it whole. And it’s the best and loudest I could ever do considering my state. “You’re the bearer of the lycan’s mark,” I heard him spoke inside my head before I started feeling his sharp teeth touching my skin, “And that means you’re my prey.” His teeth shrinks to my flesh and all I can ever do is to scream in pain. I screamed and screamed until my throat started to hurt. Then my eyes open, and I found myself lying on my bed. I got up, catching my breath. I am panting heavily. My shoulders are rapidly going up and down. Beads of cold sweat are slowly dripping from my forehead down to my face. A dream. “It’s just a dream, Yelina,” I uttered to comfort myself. But a part of me says it wasn’t, and I believe that part. That wasn’t a dream but a premonition of what will happen to me in the following days. I am certain that it’s a fraction of a scene from the future to help me get ready and accept what awaits me. I can totally say that everything in that dream is true, especially the part where there is a man with silvery eyes that takes the form of a massive white wolf; and the lycan’s mark. This is not the first time I dreamt about that scene. It has been occurring to me for a couple of nights after I found out the truth my family has been hiding from me. I took a deep breath before I got up and went to the window. As soon as I opened it, the cold breeze entered my room sending shivers all over my body. From the light of the lampshade, I stare at the back of my right hand and bitterly smiled when I look at the special and unusually detailed birthmark I have. For those who do not know anything about it, they will say it’s a beautiful birthmark; but for those who knew, they would be sorry. Because what I have is called the lycan’s mark, a mark the reminds me that my life has already been decided; that no matter what I do, what path I choose, I will still go back to where I should be—that I am nothing but an offering to a beast they refer to as ‘Lycan’. Yes, I am a girl who was only born to serve the purpose of becoming someone’s meal.
