"Mom, what did you do?!" I screamed at her as I slammed the door shut. She didn't even look fazed. She motioned me to the kitchen and had me sit at the kitchen island.
"I have been warning you your whole life that on your 18th birthday you would have responsibilities. Ones that only you can do, and I meant only you." She began to lecture me.
I began to scowl at my mother. She was in her serious mom mode. "When are you going to start telling me what these responsibilities are? I've been told the same thing my whole life and you have never once told me what they would entail" I started.
"I have done everything you have ever asked of me to prepare myself for whatever it is I'm supposed to be responsible for; I have been an ace student, one of the top in our state for academics, I have been a state champ in fencing for 4 years, and for 7 in taekwando. I have blindly followed through with every promise, now you need to tell me what you haven't told me for years! And you can start by telling me where my college replies are."
She just stood there, letting me finish my huge monologue. Once she could tell I was finished she sighed, and set down the wooden spoon she was using to cook our dinner. Looking me straight in the eye she finally told me "I am bound by an oath that you may not know until you are 18 years old. Now I know that your graduation is the day before your birthday so you may celebrate it with your friends, however I need you home by 11pm. I will be getting you ready for the ceremony when you turn 18, there is nothing more I can tell you at this time."
I could not believe her, she ignored everything I have said and now she expects me to follow another one of her demands. I had it. I got up and walked for the door, with no explanations from my mom I was done. I have been the perfect child, the perfect woman, and I have hit my limit.
"Where do you think you are going?" my mom tried to yell after me. I turned around with the door open "I'm taking my life into my own hands, and for once I'm not going to do what you want. I refuse to accept these responsibilities until you tell me what they are." and with that I left.
I had been walking for about an hour, and finally ended up the middle of no where! I had this brilliant idea to walk through the forest at night to get away from my mom. I finally sat down leaning my back against an old white oak tree, and pulled my knees up to my chest. I leaned my head into the bark of the tree and let silent tears run down my cheeks.
I have never been more upset in my life. I just can't understand why I'm not allowed to know anything when my birthday is now less than 2 weeks away. I looked to the stars and silently prayed to who ever was up there listening. I needed answers and I knew I wouldn't get any until my birthday.
I sat there until it was close to midnight when I decided it was time to go home to my mothers scolding. I stood up, drying my face with the back of my hand. I began walking in the direction I remember coming from. 10 minutes into my hike home I heard the snap of a branch.
I froze, listening for the sound of more movements. One c***k, 2 crunches of leaves, another c***k, there was something or someone out here with me. Suddenly I saw shadows of movement, and like a puff of smoke 7 male figures surrounded me.
I tried to survey each male individually, I needed to find the week link and get out of here as fast as possible. I'm good, but not 7 to 1 good. Then the tallest spoke "Are you Anastazia Thayer?" his voice was cold and void of any emotions.
I began to take on a defensive position. I guess that was confirmation for the man to know it was me. "You are a problem for me and so I must eliminate you to get what I want." He began to sound pissed. I tried to keep tabs on each of the guys there, looking for any subtle move to show they would attack.
"What do you want with me?" I finally asked. Even in the dark I could tell that he was smirking. "That's right, you don't even know who you are yet. You don't get to find out for another 2 weeks, at least that was until you finally left the barrier of that damned white witch and met us"
I was so confused. What is a white witch, what did he mean by barrier, who are these people, how do they know me? Worse how do they know my birthday is in 2 weeks and I am to be told everything that I have never known then.
"Let me make this very simple for you human. I am Peter eldest son of the Devil King Zander Lucifer Thayer, the Lord of Pride and you are a nobody." What he said only made me more confused, the words he was spouting made no sense and in trying to understand what he was explaining I missed the subtle movement of 2 of the other assailants.
I struggled against them, but they were like no one I had ever fought before. It was like they had super human strength. The one who spoke walked up to me taking my chin between his fingers. "You do look like father, except for that filthy white witches blood in your body. Had father told us of your existence from the beginning this could have gone differently."
Suddenly a strong wind blew through and the man called Peter was thrown into a tree. I looked up to see wings, big, beautiful, full wings that started as a beautiful midnight black turning to an ashy gray and then down into a white purer than the snow.
Peter got up, wiping the blood from his newly busted lip. "Looks like the brat has a hero coming to her rescue" He cackled while pointing at this winged man. "Now who the f**k are you half breed?!"
The winged man stiffened at Peters words, and glanced over his shoulder at me. I could tell immediately it was my Gabriel. I stared at him in shock and my jaw dropped to the floor. I could see the pain in his eyes and then he finally spoke "You were not supposed to find out for 2 more weeks"
"And she won't." Everyone snapped their attention to my mom who was leaning her shoulder against a tree. The whole forest around us seemed to shake with her presence. "You boys know that Zander will not like this when he finds out what you've all done."
The boys all hissed in unison stating "You shut your mouth you damned white witch" I couldn't stand the situation any more. I cleared my throat gaining everyone's attention once again. "If we are all done with the games, someone had better tell me what is going on."
And before I could even get the words out my mom had flicked her wrist, and I lost consciousness. Only hearing the people from before arguing with my mom.
