Chapter 2 They stopped by Stephen’s London townhouse, which sat squarely amid other eye-wateringly expensive addresses and gazed out over the square with lofty benevolence. Ben had, on their first visit, recognized the neighborhood; he’d held a very apparently innocuous conversation about ducks with an earnest young man in a well-tailored coat at a dinner-party in the house one street over. He’d mentioned as much to Simon, who’d been fascinated. Of course he had been. Simon loved stories. Simon always wanted to know more. Stephen had arranged dinner, old-fashioned and luxurious, at an appropriately exclusive gentleman’s club; Ben, who would’ve preferred asking questions about the mission, resigned himself to enjoying a perfectly cooked steak and miraculous tiny potatoes cut to look like
