Chapter 1: The Call of the Wild
Rosa POV In the small, misty town of Grizedale, nestled between thick forests and rolling hills, the townsfolk held tightly to their secrets. The locals spoke in hushed tones about the woods, claiming that shadows moved with purpose and that the full moon brought with it ancient terrors. The legend of the werewolves was deeply woven into the fabric of their history, and most chose to ignore it. But for 17-year-old Rosa jones, the legend felt more like a calling. Rosa had always felt a connection to the wild. While her friends spent weekends at the mall or at parties, Rosa preferred the quiet serenity of the woods. The towering pines, the rustling leaves, and the chorus of crickets under the stars provided solace that the bustling town could not. Yet, on the nights when the moon hung full and bright, an inexplicable restlessness surged within her. As the autumn leaves began to turn, Rosa found herself drawn deeper into the forest. It was on one such night, with the silver light spilling through the canopy, that she first encountered the pack. Rosa had ventured farther than usual, her heart pounding with excitement. The air was crisp, carrying the scent of damp earth and pine. As she reached a clearing, the world fell silent. The usual sounds of the night faded, leaving only the heartbeat of the earth beneath her feet. Suddenly, a low growl resonated from the shadows. Rosa 's instincts kicked in, and she turned to leave, but before she could react, a massive figure emerged. It was a wolf, larger than any she had ever seen, its coat a mix of silver and black, eyes glowing like embers in the dark. Frozen in place, Rosa felt a strange mix of fear and fascination. The wolf stood tall, surveying her with an intensity that sent chills down her spine. But instead of running, Rosa felt an urge to step closer, as if some unseen bond pulled her toward the creature. Before she could process her thoughts, the wolf growled again, and Rosa realized it was not just a wolf—it was part of something much more significant. A sense of ancient power filled the air, and Rosa instinctively understood that she was standing at the precipice of something life-altering. In the days that followed, Rosa returned to the clearing, her heart thrumming with anticipation. Each night, the wolf would appear, growing more familiar with her presence. As the moon waxed, she began to notice more figures lurking in the shadows. The wolf was part of a pack, a family that roamed the woods under the moonlight. One night, as the moon hung heavy in the sky, Rosa was surprised to find herself surrounded by the pack—five wolves, each one a striking blend of color and muscle. At the center stood the silver-black wolf, its eyes locked onto hers with an intensity that took her breath away. Suddenly, the wolf shifted, and Rosa gasped as she watched the transformation. Fur receded, bones cracked, and within moments, a tall figure stood in its place—a man, wild and beautiful, with silver hair and piercing eyes. “Welcome, Rosa ,” he said, his voice deep and resonant, as if the forest itself spoke through him. “I am Gecko, the leader of this pack.” Rosa ’s heart raced. “You’re… you’re a werewolf?” The word tasted foreign on her tongue, filled with both awe and fear. “Yes,” he replied, stepping closer, a magnetic aura radiating from him. “And so are you.” Confusion swept over Rosa . “Me? I’m not a werewolf!” Gecko smiled gently. “Not yet. But you’ve always been drawn to the wild, haven’t you? The blood of the ancients runs through your veins. You just needed to be awakened.” Rosa felt a swirl of emotions. The idea was both thrilling and terrifying. “What does that mean?” “It means you have the potential to join us,” he said, gesturing to the other wolves, who were now shifting back into human forms—tall, powerful figures with an air of mystery. “But I don’t know anything about this life,” Rosa protested. “What if I can’t handle it?” “Embrace your instincts,” Gecko urged, stepping even closer. “We will guide you. The moon calls to you, Rosa . It’s time to answer.” Rosa stood on the edge of a decision that could alter the course of her life forever. The thrill of the unknown tugged at her, and despite her fear, the call of the wild was too strong to resist.
