2 Taking her away.

“Mom,” Mikaela whimpered as she left the room and made her way upstairs. Her mother opened the door for her and she stepped into her room. She breathed in the scent of paint that lingered in the air. It comforted her. But it couldn’t calm the fear that had taken hold within her. Her body shook as she tried to push it down. But it was like the man touched a part of she couldn’t control. Who was that man? And why did she bite her like that? The tears she hadn’t let fall while he stood before her fell. Her neck ached where the man bit her. She stumbled as she suddenly felt faint. She reached for the bed, but she somehow forgot that it was far. She fell to her knees. Oh God… “Mikaela!” her mother came to her. She knelt in front of her and tried to help her to her feet. But Mikaela couldn’t move. Her body felt like it was being pulled inside out. She clenched her jaw as she let the pain ride through her. This felt like the first time her mother said she tried to change into her wolf form. But she couldn’t. She couldn’t change into her wolf form. The pain had been excruciating as it was right then. It felt like something was supposed to happen but her body couldn’t do it. Why did it happen just then? Mikaela asked herself as she tightened her hands into his fists. Her grandfather walked into the room. “Move Layla, my wolf will calm her down,” he said as he knelt next to her and enveloped her into his arms. Warmth surrounded her and she felt the storm within her calm down. She breathed her grandfather’s scent in greedily. “Are you alright?” he asked brushing her riot of hair behind her ear. She hated her hair. It was bright and it attracted unwanted attention to her. Mikaela liked it when she was invisible. But her hair wouldn’t allow her. “Yes,” she said finally opening her eyes to look at her mother. She looked defeated and torn the same way she had looked when daddy was killed. Mikaela had returned from school to find her sitting in the foyer where daddy had fallen when the men with guns had busted into their house and shot him. Her mother didn’t tell her why they killed him. She just packed her up and brought her back to her home as if someone was coming after them. Mikaela blinked back the tears that filled her eyes. She wished that her father was there. That man out there wouldn’t take her away from her family if he was still alive. “Get packing Layla. If Marcus came up here he will kill us all and we won’t be able to protect Mikaela when the time comes,” her grandfather said getting to his feet easily carrying her from the ground. He touched her cheek and smiled at her in his warm way. He turned to her mother who hasn’t moved from the floor. “Why are you giving in so easily to him?” her mother asked exploding in anger. Her tear streaked face made her look a little crazy. “Because I have to respect my Alpha King,” her grandfather said and then moved to do the packing himself. He dragged the suitcase from the top of the wall wardrobe and placed it on the floor. He opened the zippers and they echoed so loud in the room. “No. You’re giving up. You refused to give me to him. Why are you doing this now? She’s my daughter I can’t. Marcus can’t take her away from me,” her mother asked her fingers digging into her hair. “Mom,” Mikaela said getting to her feet and walking to her mother. She brought her hands down. She felt her heart break, and tears fill her eyes. But she pushed them away. She couldn’t cry when her mother looked like she was about to snap and breakdown. She had to be strong for her, Mikaela thought as she pushed her own fears of the scary man downstairs. He was so scary she didn’t know how she stood upright in front of him. She had wanted to crumble in his presence. And the power that had come out of him. Mikaela could still feel the burn it had left on her skin. Mikaela ignored her own pain and focused on her mother. “That was a mistake on my part. I thought he would move on. He is an Alpha King he can chose any wolf to be his luna. But he didn’t…he didn’t move on. He came for you in another way. And this time we can’t ignore this…” her grandfather stepped close to her mother. “I have been in trouble with Marcus since you ran away from home and went to be with that human. I protected you then as best as I could since I told him that I sent you away. I didn’t reveal that you didn’t see him as your mate.” “Dad…she not a wolf…she doesn’t have the gene. She’s going to suffer where he’s taking her. I can’t allow this,” her mother said. “She will be fine. You will fine, right? You will be strong for me right?” her grandfather said looking towards the door. Mikaela saw the tears in his eyes as she nodded. She will be strong for them.   Her mother’s eyes went wide at her words. “I can’t lose my daughter the way I lost my husband.” “Don’t think about that right now,” her grandfather said moving to open the wardrobe and throwing her clothes in the suitcase. “He will get tired of her soon and send her back.” Her mother kept quiet. And her grandfather packed her clothes. Mikaela stared at them too afraid to even ask any questions. She didn’t know where the Alpha King was taking her. And she wasn’t given a chance to ask as her grandfather took her hand, and reached for the suitcase. “No, take this,” her mother said reaching for the pastels that were on her bedside table. She gave them to Mikaela and then pulled her into a hug. Mikaela held her tight and then let go as her grandfather tugged on her arm. They walked back downstairs. When they reached the room the Alpha King was gone. The other man stood up, and reached for the suitcase. He walked to the door and Mikaela followed him. They walked outside to the waiting car. Mikaela saw the Alpha King standing outside the car waiting impatiently. He looked up and down at her and then turned to the car. He opened the door. “Get in,” he said already moving to the other side of the car. He got into the back. Mikaela stared at him. Was she supposed to sit next to him? She could barely breathe when she was next to him. How was she…? “Get in,” the other man said as he came back from putting the suitcase in the boot. Mikaela got in and then sat next to the Alpha King. The feeling of being suffocated returned again. “Marcus…” the other man said from the front. “What Luke?” he asked in a rough voice next to him. “Cut it out, please,” Luke begged. Marcus sighed next to her. He shifted irritably in the seat next to her. Mikaela didn’t know what was going on, but suddenly she could breathe. The drove to the airport and flew to another state. Mikaela didn’t even know where they were going. Only that they were in Arizona. Another car picked them up at the airport and they drove away. They drove to a high class suburb that looked like the absolute rich lived there. The car turned into the driveway of very tall gates that looked intimidating. Mikaela looked at the words written on a plaque in front of the gates. Benford Academy. He was bringing her to a school…? she asked herself in surprise. She turned and looked at him. But he didn’t bother to give glance at her. The gates opened before the car came to a stop. They drove up the drive way and came to a stop in front of a building. “Get out. There is someone waiting for you in there,” he said carelessly. “What?” Mikaela asked. Her heart slammed against her ribcage. “Luke?” Marcus said irritably. Mikaela could feel that he really didn’t want her sitting there in the car with him. Luke got out of the front and opened the passenger door. “Come miss,” he said helping her out. Mikaela hesitated. But she could feel that suffocating feeling return again. She didn’t even know why she wanted to stay with him in the car…or let him take her wherever he was going. It didn’t make sense at all. But she didn’t want to be left there. There was something about the place that scared her. “Dad…she not a wolf…she doesn’t have the gene. She’s going to suffer where he’s taking her. I can’t allow this.” Her mother’s words returned to her. Tears prickled her eyes, but she dashed them away. She got out of the car, and walked to the door. Luke followed behind her with her suitcase. The building that they walked into felt cold. She shivered rubbing her hands over her arms. They were met by a stern looking woman. Her eyes shone with a strange light as she stared at her. Mikaela looked down at her feet as she felt like she was being stripped to her soul. “What’s this,” the woman asked in her lofty voice. Mikaela cringed as she heard her sniff around her so loud. “What the hell? Luke what did you bring to me? This is no place for…what is she anyway?” Mikaela looked sideways waiting for Luke to answer. But he stared at the woman. “You can go and ask the Alpha King yourself,” he said stepping aside so that the woman could see the Alpha still sitting in the car. Her face changed from being harsh to fearful. “No. That’s fine. Anyone he brings here is accepted,” she said looking at Mikaela. “Say your goodbyes and follow me.” “Give us a moment,” Luke said sending the woman away. Mikaela turned to face him. He gave her a warm smile. Mikaela stared at him. “Don’t worry about him. He’s working through something that your mother and grandfather put him through. He will send you home soon enough, it’s nothing to do with you. He’s just using you in a very bad game,” Luke sighed sounding like he felt bad for what the Alpha King was doing. “Keep your head down and learn from everyone here. This is the best school for all supernatural beings. If you open yourself to learning in the short time that you are here, you can grow and become whatever you want.” “How long will he keep me here?” Mikaela asked ignoring whatever Luke was saying. “I don’t know,” he sighed and looked towards the car. “For as long as he feels he’s gotten his revenge.” Mikaela felt tears prickle her eyes. But she pushed them away. She reached for her suitcase and walked down the hallway that the woman disappeared to. She wiped away the tears that suddenly shot from her eyes. He snatched her away from her family for his revenge. No wonder his mother had looked like she was going crazy, Mikaela thought as pain slashed through her. She slammed into something hard, and fell on her ass. She looked up to see three beautiful girls looking down at her. They laughed as they watched her. “What a wimp,” the one in the middle said. She bent at the waist to stare at her. “Look where you’re going or you might get hurt.” She straightened and then they walked away. As they walked away they whispered about her. “Did you scent her?” they asked each other as they walked away from her. “All I could smell was trash,” one of them said. “No. She smells like nothing.” the other said confused. They all turned and stared at her. Mikaela felt like hiding from their focused stare and then they faced forwards walking away. “What are you doing on the floor?” the woman who met her in the foyer asked. She looked like the headmistress of the school. Mikaela scrambled to her feet. The woman looked at her like she some kind of alien or something. She shook her head as if she didn’t know what to do with her. “Come,” she said turning to walk away. Mikaela quickly followed. “I am headmistress Victoria. I take care of the girls’ side of the school. Benford Academy is a prestigious school where all the elite supernatural beings bring their children. We are known for producing the best of our kind. Every being comes to us to master their gifts. They become the best in their field.” Mikaela nodded even though headmistress Victoria couldn’t see her. “What is your gif? I can’t smell anything on you,” she asked looking behind her. Mikaela’s stomach tightened. She didn’t know. “I…” she was about say that she didn’t know. But the headmaster interrupted. “Oh that’s a stupid question. If the Alpha King brought you here there must be something special about you,” she said smiling at her for the first time since she arrived. Uhhh…Mikaela felt her stomach squeeze tight. No. She was only here because he was taking revenge on her family. “I am sure you will be the best,” she added. Nooo, Mikaela silently shook her head she definitely will not. And everyone will be sourly disappointed.
