When I walked into the HR suite, the secretary gave me a look that was more pity than disgust, and waved me toward John Harkaway’s office. That was when I knew it was bad. Harkaway is the head of HR, and not the most friendly guy, even if you were in his office to accept a service award. I walked in, feeling like a dog who expected a whipping, and sank into the chair. The look on Harkaway’s face told me all I needed to know. I could see he had all the paperwork necessary to process my termination, laid out neatly on the desk in front of him, in three neat stacks.
